Unboxing + Review: ipsy September 2016 Glamazon

ipsy glam bag september 2016

It’s officially fall! The leaves have started turning and it really is a beautiful season. Fall is probably my favorite season. Well, minus the dark mornings and cooler weather. It just reminds me of what’s around the corner… BUT let’s not get into that just yet. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Instead, let’s talk about September’s ipsy glam bag!

The ipsy September 2016 glam bag theme is Glamazon and the bag matches the theme perfectly! When I first saw the bag online, I didn’t think I would like it but now that I’ve seen it in person, it’s really not all that bad! While I’m not the biggest fan of the Amazon women on the front of the bag – it’s just not my style – I thought it was clever that it spelled out ‘I – P – S – Y”. And I do love the colours of the bag! In person, you can see a bit of silver in the pattern on the bag.

And now on to the contents!

The first product I received is the Eau Thermale Avรจne Hydrance Optimale Hydrating Serum ($8.00 CDN, 5 ml) and am I ever impressed! I only started adding a serum to my skin care regimen a few years ago so I have only tried a couple of kinds so far. This one impressed me right from the get go! It’s a very light serum that absorbed into my skin quickly. It made my skin feel so soft! It’s not sticky at all. While there is some fragrance, it’s pretty subtle and not overpowering at all.

ipsy glam bag september 2016

The next item I received is the Too Faced Lip Injection Extreme ($17.00 CDN, 1.5 g). I love Too Faced products so I was happy to see this, though, I’m not really one to use lip plumpers. I still gave it a try, though. I found that it made my lips tingle for awhile but it wasn’t uncomfortable or painful at all. It does work on my lips… they did seem plumper than usual. But like all other “lip plumping” products, we all react to it differently and it won’t be as pleasant or work for everyone. Overall, this product is not bad. If I am ever in need of a lip plumper, I know I will reach for this!

ipsy glam bag september 2016

The Christie Brinkley Authentic Skincare Complete Clarity Daily Facial Exfoliating Polish ($4.00 USD, 10 ml) is something I’m not very familiar with. Until now, I had no idea that Christie Brinkley had a skincare line! From the reviews I have seen, this looks to be a good product. I haven’t had a chance to try it yet so I really couldn’t say. I do like a good gentle exfoliator so I’m looking forward to trying this out.

ipsy glam bag september 2016

The Seraphine Botanicals Guava Butter 91% Natural Creamy Lip & Cheek Stain ($24.00 USD, 4 g, full size) is probably the superstar in my September bag! From the looks of it, this is what makes up the bulk of the value in my bag. It’s cruelty free, vegan, GMO-free and gluten-free. I love the colour! It’s beautiful! And this smells really yummy! I am not a huge fan of cream blushes so I don’t think I will be using this on my cheeks much but I am a lip junkie! I foresee myself using this as a tinted lip balm a lot. It’s also great that it’s full sized!

ipsy glam bag september 2016

The final product in my bag is the Trust Fund Beauty Nail Polish in Champagne Socialite ($15.00 USD, 17 ml, full size) and I LOVE it! I’m a huge fan of rose gold anything so this really was perfect for me! I haven’t had a chance to change my polish colour yet so that I could give this a try but I have tried Trust Fund Beauty nail polishes before and I really like them a lot! They have good staying power and it is super easy to apply. I was very happy to see this in my bag! It’s another full sized product, too.

ipsy glam bag september 2016

So that’s it. My September glam bag was fab! It included two full sized products and three deluxe samples with a total value of $81.65 CDN (based on today’s exchange rate). I will be using all these products, for sure! What was your favorite from this month’s bag?

Not subscribing to ipsy but would like to give it a try? It is $10.00 USD  a month in the US and $10.00 USD + $4.00 USD shipping for Canadians. Please use my link โ€“ much appreciated!

Hope you are all having a fantastic weekend!

Beauty Empties 2

Beauty Empties - what I loved and what I didn't

Ever get the feeling that you’re behind? Because that is DEFINITELY how I feel about my empties! I figured that, since my box of empties just keeps fuller and fuller, I need to do something about it! It’s not my ideal to keep a box of garbage around. ๐Ÿ˜‰ So in an attempt to catch up, here are some of my body product empties. The good, the bad – I will discuss it all!

beauty empties 2

The Empties

Product: Aveeno Eczema Care Moisturizing Cream
Rating (out of 5): 4
Repurchase?: Yes โ€“ already have!
Thoughts: I don’t nearly get as many episodes of eczema as I did when I was a kid but I do keep this on hand just in case my skin flares up. I used to get eczema a lot and over larger parts of my body. Nowadays, I usually get a small flare up in the inside of my elbow, on my hands and during the odd time I get it on my face when the air is drier in the winter. I have tried a number of drugstore creams that are supposed to help you during your flare ups and this one is the only one I really like! This actually made a difference for my skin, unlike the others. It’s a thick cream but it absorbs fast. It’s not scented so it’s great for those who are sensitive or allergic to fragrances. I purchased one right away after this one ran out!

Product: Bath and Body Works Anti-Bacterial Hand Sanitizer in Summer Escape
Rating (out of 5): 5
Repurchase?: Yes โ€“ BUT this scent is no longer available ๐Ÿ™
Thoughts: This is the larger size of BBW’s hand sanitizer. I have had this forever! It lasted a long, long time. It’s been sitting on my desk at work for years! I love the scent! It’s just so fresh and just really nice.  I would definitely repurchase if they ever bring this particular scent back. It’s SO good and I do love BBW hand sanitizers.

Product: Jergens Moisturizer for Wet Skin in Green Tea
Rating (out of 5): 5
Repurchase?: Yes โ€“ already repurchased a full size ๐Ÿ™‚
Thoughts: I must say, I was really skeptical about wet skin lotions because when I tried the Nivea one, I almost slipped in the shower! When I saw the Jergens one, I wasn’t keen on trying it until I realized that, unlike the Nivea one where you apply it while you shower, the Jergens one is applied after your shower while your skin is still wet. That lowered the risk of using it so I gave it a try. And the verdict? Love, love, love! I wasn’t sure about the green tea scent at first but I really like it! I find it very zen, to be honest. I repurchased it when I saw that it was on sale at Shoppers. Green tea isn’t the only scent – I made a swap for the Coconut scent but I haven’t had a chance to try it yet.

beauty empties 2

Product: Secret Scent Expressions Clear Gel Antiperspirant/Deodorant in Va Va Vanilla
Rating (out of 5): 4 (would’ve given it a 5 but I prefer the lavender scent!)
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: Secret Scent Expressions has been my go-to for the last year or so. It dries fast and it works great for me! My usual is Ohh-La-La Lavender which I adore! But I decided to try one of the other scents so I got Va Va Vanilla. This one still smells nice but I prefer the lavender. The scent itself aside, the clear gel is such a great product! I always repurchase this product – regardless of the scent. I just gravitate to the lavender one more often than not. ๐Ÿ™‚

Product: Olay Ultra Moisture with Shae Butter Body Wash x 2
Rating (out of 5): 3
Repurchase?: Maybe
Thoughts: I have quite a few of these samples kicking around so I decided to start using them. I used up two of the smaller 50 ml bottles. They are okay. They lather nicely and it smells okay. It works great as a body was but there isn’t anything about it that makes me want to continue using it.

Product: Vitabath Fruit Fanatic Wild Red Cherry Body Wash
Rating (out of 5): 4
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: I preferred this one to the Olay body wash. I reviewed above. It smells so nice! Shame the bottle was so small, though. It is sulfate and paraben free so that’s great, too!  This also lathers nicely. Pretty good stuff! I would buy a full sized bottle of this.

Product: Templespa La La Lagoon Aromatic Bath and Shower Gel
Rating (out of 5): 5
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: I received this from one of my Birchbox Canada sub boxes and I was hesitant to use it at first. It has a really strong scent… but I found that it grows on you. After awhile, you just feel like you’re at the spa. It’s was always so nice and relaxing to use in the mornings. A great pick me up start to the day! I’m not sure where I could get this again but it was really nice. I’d consider repurchasing it one day.

beauty empties 2

Thatโ€™s it Folks!

There you go, my body product empties. For now anyways. I feel like, with my Project Pan right now and just tryingn to get through products in general, I am collecting many empties. Look for another post very soon! I finished a lot in the months of August and September that I will cover.

How did you do last month? What was your fave empty? ๐Ÿ™‚

Unboxing + Review: ipsy August 2016 Sugar Highness

ipsy august 2016

Are you ready for a sugar high? That’s what August’s ipsy glam bag is all about! Indulging in something wonderful. Like beauty products, perhaps?

The theme for August is Sugar Highness. This month’s bag is so adorable! It comes in two colourways – there is one that features a girl with green hair and then there is the one I received with purple hair. Michelle Phan herself drew the illustrations on the bag and they look amazing! I love the colours on it… which isn’t surprising, I guess. My fave colour is purple, after all! ๐Ÿ˜‰

ipsy august 2016

ipsy august 2016

My ipsy glam bag came with five items. Let’s take a peek.

First up to bat is the 111Skin Bio Cellulose Facial Treatment Mask (ยฃ17.00, 1 mask). The packet I received contains one sheet mask that is supposed to brighten your complexion, moisturise and nourish your skin and stimulate collagen production. I haven’t had a chance to try this one yet so I can’t say a whole lot about the product itself but I will say that keeping a mask on hand for those days when you want to do a quick “spa night” is so handy! I will gladly add this to my small collection and I know it will be used sooner or later. I also love that it is paraben and sulfate free. Good stuff!

ipsy august 2016

Next I received the Marc Anthony Nourishing Argan Oil of Morocco Deep Hydrating Conditioning Treatment ($2.97 CAN, 50 ml). This, too, is sulfate free which is fab! I have tried Marc Anthony Argan Oil products in the past and really liked them. I love the smell of the products in this line and this mask is no different. It smells great! Not too strong either. I’m working through a few other conditioning masks at the moment but I will give this one a try for sure. I can’t say no to hair mask treatments.

ipsy august 2016

I also found the Winky Lux Diamond Powder in Medium in my August bag ($26.39 CAN for full size (unknown weight, the Winky Lux site only had a pan diameter size) so I am estimating this to be half. Around $13 CAN). I have never heard of this brand before I received this item and I really didn’t know what this product was all about so I did some research. The Diamond Powder is essentially used as a complexion powder that will brighten your skin and diminish imperfections. Okay, now that I know what it’s about, I gave it a try. It’s a really nice powder that looks and feels velvety on your skin. The colour medium looks light against my skin but once I buff it out, it makes a nice highlighter. Now that I’m reading the box, it says it’s a foundation powder (in my case, it’s too light for my tanned skin!) and there are “genuine crushed diamonds” in it. Interesting. Anyways, it’s cruelty free, paraben free, talc free and gluten free so that’s a plus for many people. I quite like this face powder.

ipsy august 2016

The next one is from a brand that I already adore. The IT Cosmetics No-Tug Waterproof Gel Eyeliner in Black ($15.53 USD, 0.012 oz) was a nice addition to my glam bag. Although I have numerous black pencil liners in the mix at the moment, I was excited to try this. IT Cosmetics is not that easy to get here in Canada so I’m always willing to try any of their products out. This gel liner was really nice. It glides on and the “no-tug” part in it’s name is right! I did not experience any tug when applying this eyeliner. It’s black, it’s bold and it stays on all day which is perfect for me! I also love that you don’t need to sharpen this – the pencil end twists to give you more product. Very happy with this product!

ipsy august 2016

Last, but not least, is the Ciate Paint Pot in Spinning Teacups ($15.00 USD, full sized). Did I already mention that I love the colour purple?  Well, Spinning Teacups is a lovely lavender so this is right up my alley! I have very limited experience with Ciate polishes but I did like the one that I have tried before. Another great thing about this product is that it’s full-sized. You can’t argue with full sized products now, can you? I can’t wait to try this out!

ipsy august 2016

So that’s it folks. My ipsy August glam bag was pretty good. Not only was the bag itself beautiful, the products I received were great, too. I will find use for everything I received and that’s really all I ask for every month! Some months you just get luckier than others.

The total value of this bag is around $86.00 CAN – based on today’s exchange rate, of course. The British Pound really boosted the value! That is one high-priced mask! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

This was a pretty great bag and I have loved what I’ve tried so far! For the items I haven’t tried yet, I look forward to it.

Not subscribing to ipsy but would like to give it a try? It is $10.00 USD  a month in the US and $10.00 USD + $4.00 USD shipping for Canadians. Please use my link โ€“ much appreciated!

Project Pan: 16 in 2016 – Mid-Year Update: Empties!

project pan 2016 updateWOW! Where has the summer gone? I don’t know about you but it went by way too quickly!

Project Pan 2016 has been going full force since January! Don’t think I forgot about this initiative of mine. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I had meant to provide an update on on the progress of my Project Pan sooner! Since my last post in April, I have made great strides in my Project Pan! Big enough progress that I am going to dedicate this update to just my empties. Don’t worry, for the products that are still “in progress”, I will provide another update soon. I have quite a few to go through so let’s get started!

The Quick Stats

Based on a total of 21 products in my Project Pan as of August 31, 2016.

Empties: 12/21
In Progress: 9/21

project pan 2016

Success! (aka The Empties)

For empties, I will be doing a quick review on each product โ€“ what I thought, what I liked, what I didnโ€™t like, would I buy it again. I have made great progress since my last update back in April – I finished seven products. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Maybelline Dream Fresh BB 8-in-1 Beauty Balm SPF 30  in Medium
I honestly thought that this product was bottomless. Seriously. I was using this just about every single day since January and, like the Energizer Bunny, it kept going and going and going! But now it’s finally empty! This product lasted me forever. I really like it, too. If you are looking for a lightweight sheer foundation, this is a great option. It goes on nicely with a Beauty Blender or a foundation brush and doesn’t oxidize on me. It’s not full coverage but it’s nice for light to medium coverage.
  • MAC Fix+ Spray
I purchased the travel sized bottle of this just so I could try it… and I ended up loving it! This bottle still lasted me a good while. I like the scent as it’s not too strong and I found that it worked very well in keeping my makeup in place all day. Plus, this is a great way to revive your ColourPop eyeshadows that have dried up a little bit. I have since purchased a new bottle. ๐Ÿ™‚
  • Caudalie Makeup Remover Cleansing Water
I’m so sad I finished this! I know I will be repurchasing this because I just adore this cleansing water! I use it in the morning just before I start my skin care routine and I use it at night for evenings when I’m too tired to cleanse my face with my Foreo. I put it on a cotton round and use it to wipe my makeup off and it does a pretty good job! I really like this bottle because I can reuse it very easily – just add more product to it and off you go! It’s the perfect size for travel. I will definitely be repurchasing this!
  • Nip + Fab Sheer Make-Up Fix Complexion Perfector
This was a really nice primer – it’s too bad that this product has been discontinued! This was so easy to apply and it absorbs SO nicely. My face was never sticky and my makeup stayed on all day. Dang. If this ever returns to the N+F lineup, I would totally repurchase it!

project pan 2016

  • Vichy Idealia Skin Sleep*
I never really tried Vichy until I received this product from ChickAdvisor and I’m so glad they exposed me to something that is a pretty amazing product! This is best used as an evening moisturizer – it is thick but not sticky. It absorbs quickly and helps the dry patches on my skin stay hydrated in the winter. You don’t have to use very much so this jar probably lasted me almost a year. Overall, I was very happy with this product. Next time I’m in the market for a night cream, this is pretty much at the top of my list. ๐Ÿ™‚
  • Benefit It’s Potent! Eye Cream
I’m not sure about this one. I didn’t really notice much of a difference to my eye area after using this. I was also not a big fan of the jar… it’s so small so the jar opening is small and it was difficult to get product out when you only have a little bit left. I think this is a pass for me.

project pan 2016

  • Alterna Caviar CC Cream
I have used up maybe two of these. This most recent one is the one I took on my trip to Vegas in June. It lasted me the 5 days and then some once I got home. It’s a good sized product. This product helps with a number of things including taming frizz which I have due to dry ends. It worked well enough but after awhile, I didn’t like the smell as much. I have since found other products which do the same thing that I prefer. I likely won’t get this again.

project pan 2016

To keep this short and sweet, I am only going to write about the empties. Check back soon for more about what is “in progress” (there are nine of ’em!) and what I will be adding to my Project Pan because… well, it’s only September. Let’s keep this going!

Are you doing project pan this year? What is your fave product so far? How about your least fave?

Hope you are all having a fantastic week! Until next time my friends. ๐Ÿ™‚

August Favorites 2016

august favorites 2016

It’s almost the end of August! So I decided to skip my July favorites in favor of jumping straight into my August favorites. It’s a decision I made because I was blindsided by how quickly the summer is flying by! In ways, I feel like I lost the entire month of July – seriously, where did it go? I feel like I blinked and it was the end of August. Go figure.

For some reason, when I was trying to pick out a few choice faves, I had a very difficult time trying to decide on what my August favorites were. Because I skipped a month, there were so many! I really didn’t want to have to write a novel! So I made some quick picks – saving what I didn’t choose this month for next month – and here they are. ๐Ÿ™‚

This month my first favorite is a makeup favorite – the Mellow Cosmetics face blush in the shade Bronze. Wait, what? A bronze blush, you say? Yes, you did hear me correctly! I will admit, when I first received this in my March 2016 ipsy bag, I was skeptical. “Wouldn’t this make more sense as a bronzer rather than a blush?”, I asked. Silly question, I know. I soon found out that it really is pretty amazing! It could just be my skin tone, though… I’m quite tanned at the moment… but it really gives my cheeks a nice flush of colour. It’s nicely pigmented. You can apply as little as you want and if you want more colour, it’s easy to build up. It applies amazingly well with my Sedona Lace FB 05 Travel Dome Contour Face Brush. I do really want to try more Mellow blush colours! They have Peach and Pink. Maybe one day… oh, and yes, you totally can use this as a bronzer if you choose to. ๐Ÿ˜‰

august favorites 2016

august favorites 2016

My next favorite is not makeup but it is closely related to it. The INSPR Eye Fluff Brush – which I also received through ipsy back in May – is pretty darned amazing! It picks up just enough eye shadow and it blends like a dream! I have not tried a brush quite like this which makes blending eye shadow so easy. The bristles are nice and soft. Unfortunately, INSPR doesn’t ship to Canada because I would definitely consider trying other brushes from this brand. I did, however, swap for another one of these brushes just so I would always have a clean one when the other is dirty. Yes, I love this bruh that much!

august favorites 2016

august favorites 2016

Of course, I also have to throw in a skincare favorite. This month I have chosen the Nourish Organic Renewing Eye Cream. I had completely forgotten about this until I noticed it again in my stash. I honestly don’t know how I could forget about it, though! I have tried many eye creams… SO MANY eye creams… but this one actually made a difference to my puffy under eye area. The formulation of this eye cream contains avocado and argan oil that helps condition and hydrate your skin. You don’t need a lot and it absorbs quickly. Overall, I am sure happy about this eye cream and often wonder what I will do when I run out! As you can see, I’m pretty close to running out of this amazing stuff! I may order it but to ship a $21 USD cream to Canada costs $20 USD so I am not sure if I will be repurchasing unless I can find a cheaper alternative of getting this product. We shall see…

august favorites 2016

august favorites 2016

Makeup… skincare.. what’s next? How about hair care? The Bumble and Bumble Repair Blow Dry also made my faves this month. To be honest, this has been a fave for many months now… ever since I received a little sample of it from a Sephora VIB Rouge event goodie bag I received earlier this year. I have since purchased a full size and tried the All Style Blow Dry that’s for all hair types but I didn’t like it as much. The Repair Blow Dry is said to be for dry hair but I find that it works great on my normal hair, too. I use it before I blow dry and it’s so easy to apply in our hair. It smells fantastic and doesn’t make my hair feel heavy or sticky at all! I love that it’s a great multi-purpose product that helsp fight frizzy ends and protects against heat and UV damage – all great things! My hair has never felt better since I have started using this!

august favorites 2016

That’s all from the world of beauty this month… but let’s not stop there! I also had a favorite book this month and it’s called The Glam Guide by Fleur De Force. You may have heard of Fleur De Force before. She is a YouTuber, vlogger, blogger and now author! Quite honestly, she is the one YouTuber I started watching years ago when I first discovered the world of beauty videos on YouTube who I still watch today. I always look forward to her vlogging months because it seems like she’s always doing something cool and takes us along with her as she goes about her day. She’s my fave YouTuber, really. ๐Ÿ™‚ I was actually quite excited to learn she was writing a book last year and so I put the book on my Christmas wish list and my hubby found it and included it in my gift. I was a happy girl on Christmas Day! The version that I received is the North American one – the UK version has a different cover – and the cover is so great. It sums up the book and the watercolours are lovely.

august favorites 2016

Her book is great – it is very well written and it’s illustrated beautifully. It’s a fairly quick read that includes some great tidbits about topics such as makeup, hair, lifestyle motivation and even includes a section for those who are curious about starting up your own YouTube channel or blog. Fleur’s second book, called The Luxe Life, was just recently released in the UK. At the time of writing this blog post, I couldn’t find a release date for Canada but I’m hoping I will be able to get it here too. I wouldn’t mind checking it out. Maybe I can add it to my Christmas wish list this year. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Anyways, back to The Glam Guide. It’s a lovely book. And it makes for an awesome coffee table book to boot!

august favorites 2016

So that’s it for my August faves. What were you loving this month? Share in the comments below! I’d love to hear from you!

xoxo

Disclaimer: All items in my August Favorites 2016 post were purchased by me with the exception of The Glam Guide which I received as a gift. All opinions are mine and mine alone. ๐Ÿ™‚ I have included links to all the products for those who are interested in checking them out, however, none of them are affiliate links.
