August Favorites 2016

august favorites 2016

It’s almost the end of August! So I decided to skip my July favorites in favor of jumping straight into my August favorites. It’s a decision I made because I was blindsided by how quickly the summer is flying by! In ways, I feel like I lost the entire month of July – seriously, where did it go? I feel like I blinked and it was the end of August. Go figure.

For some reason, when I was trying to pick out a few choice faves, I had a very difficult time trying to decide on what my August favorites were. Because I skipped a month, there were so many! I really didn’t want to have to write a novel! So I made some quick picks – saving what I didn’t choose this month for next month – and here they are. 🙂

This month my first favorite is a makeup favorite – the Mellow Cosmetics face blush in the shade Bronze. Wait, what? A bronze blush, you say? Yes, you did hear me correctly! I will admit, when I first received this in my March 2016 ipsy bag, I was skeptical. “Wouldn’t this make more sense as a bronzer rather than a blush?”, I asked. Silly question, I know. I soon found out that it really is pretty amazing! It could just be my skin tone, though… I’m quite tanned at the moment… but it really gives my cheeks a nice flush of colour. It’s nicely pigmented. You can apply as little as you want and if you want more colour, it’s easy to build up. It applies amazingly well with my Sedona Lace FB 05 Travel Dome Contour Face Brush. I do really want to try more Mellow blush colours! They have Peach and Pink. Maybe one day… oh, and yes, you totally can use this as a bronzer if you choose to. 😉

My next favorite is not makeup but it is closely related to it. The INSPR Eye Fluff Brush – which I also received through ipsy back in May – is pretty darned amazing! It picks up just enough eye shadow and it blends like a dream! I have not tried a brush quite like this which makes blending eye shadow so easy. The bristles are nice and soft. Unfortunately, INSPR doesn’t ship to Canada because I would definitely consider trying other brushes from this brand. I did, however, swap for another one of these brushes just so I would always have a clean one when the other is dirty. Yes, I love this bruh that much!

august favorites 2016

Of course, I also have to throw in a skincare favorite. This month I have chosen the Nourish Organic Renewing Eye Cream. I had completely forgotten about this until I noticed it again in my stash. I honestly don’t know how I could forget about it, though! I have tried many eye creams… SO MANY eye creams… but this one actually made a difference to my puffy under eye area. The formulation of this eye cream contains avocado and argan oil that helps condition and hydrate your skin. You don’t need a lot and it absorbs quickly. Overall, I am sure happy about this eye cream and often wonder what I will do when I run out! As you can see, I’m pretty close to running out of this amazing stuff! I may order it but to ship a $21 USD cream to Canada costs $20 USD so I am not sure if I will be repurchasing unless I can find a cheaper alternative of getting this product. We shall see…

august favorites 2016

Makeup… skincare.. what’s next? How about hair care? The Bumble and Bumble Repair Blow Dry also made my faves this month. To be honest, this has been a fave for many months now… ever since I received a little sample of it from a Sephora VIB Rouge event goodie bag I received earlier this year. I have since purchased a full size and tried the All Style Blow Dry that’s for all hair types but I didn’t like it as much. The Repair Blow Dry is said to be for dry hair but I find that it works great on my normal hair, too. I use it before I blow dry and it’s so easy to apply in our hair. It smells fantastic and doesn’t make my hair feel heavy or sticky at all! I love that it’s a great multi-purpose product that helsp fight frizzy ends and protects against heat and UV damage – all great things! My hair has never felt better since I have started using this!

august favorites 2016

That’s all from the world of beauty this month… but let’s not stop there! I also had a favorite book this month and it’s called The Glam Guide by Fleur De Force. You may have heard of Fleur De Force before. She is a YouTuber, vlogger, blogger and now author! Quite honestly, she is the one YouTuber I started watching years ago when I first discovered the world of beauty videos on YouTube who I still watch today. I always look forward to her vlogging months because it seems like she’s always doing something cool and takes us along with her as she goes about her day. She’s my fave YouTuber, really. 🙂 I was actually quite excited to learn she was writing a book last year and so I put the book on my Christmas wish list and my hubby found it and included it in my gift. I was a happy girl on Christmas Day! The version that I received is the North American one – the UK version has a different cover – and the cover is so great. It sums up the book and the watercolours are lovely.

august favorites 2016

Her book is great – it is very well written and it’s illustrated beautifully. It’s a fairly quick read that includes some great tidbits about topics such as makeup, hair, lifestyle motivation and even includes a section for those who are curious about starting up your own YouTube channel or blog. Fleur’s second book, called The Luxe Life, was just recently released in the UK. At the time of writing this blog post, I couldn’t find a release date for Canada but I’m hoping I will be able to get it here too. I wouldn’t mind checking it out. Maybe I can add it to my Christmas wish list this year. 😉 Anyways, back to The Glam Guide. It’s a lovely book. And it makes for an awesome coffee table book to boot!

august favorites 2016

So that’s it for my August faves. What were you loving this month? Share in the comments below! I’d love to hear from you!

xoxo

Disclaimer: All items in my August Favorites 2016 post were purchased by me with the exception of The Glam Guide which I received as a gift. All opinions are mine and mine alone. 🙂 I have included links to all the products for those who are interested in checking them out, however, none of them are affiliate links.

Unboxing + Review: ipsy July 2016 Hot Summer Nights

ipsy glam bag july 2016

Are you feeling hot, hot, hot? Then July’s ipsy glam bag is for you!

I received my July glam bag on the exact same day as my very late June bag – you can check out that unboxing and review here – so this post is also coming a bit late.

July’s theme is Hot Summer Nights which is perfect seeing as we are in the midst of the summer months! The July bag is very fun and holographic! It shows a bunch of cute pink and white beach umbrellas on the “beach”. It says it “…was designed to capture the low-key, laid-back vibe of summer.” Who doesn’t want to laze around in the summer?

At first glance, July’s bag looks pretty good! Let’s take a closer look, shall we?

The first item I received was the OFRA Lip Liner in Maya ($13.00 USD, 0.04 oz, full size). This shade is described as a “...brick-red shade that draws a sultry line for standout lips.” It does look like it will be deep and wonder if this will be useful to me considering I don’t often use deep, sultry lip colours. That being said, I don’t have any other lip liners in my collection that can fill that role so maybe it is good that I received this? I will have to give this a shot and try it with a colour that is complimentary to it.

Every time I get something from this brand, I get excited because I really like what I have tried so far from them! The Mellow Cosmetics Baked Eyeshadow in Plum ($8.00 USD, 4.8 g) is no different! I will admit – I was hoping for the colour Coco which is a brown milk chocolate shade but I am actually glad that I received Plum. The number of brown shades in my eyeshadow collection is insane! At least with Plum it will add a nice purple-cranberry colour that I can use to enhance my eyeshadows – you know, like all those brown neutrals that seem to be in overabundance in my collection! This eyeshadow is very smooth and very pigmented. Easy to apply and goes on wet or dry. It is shimmery but not overly shimmery with a light hand. Overall, a great eye shadow single to have in ones collection!

Next up is the Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Face Primer ($4.74 CAD, 0.14 oz) which I have tried before and adore. Though, maybe not as much as the Too Face Primed & Poreless Skin Smoothing Face Primer but this one is still pretty good. Because it’s meant to be hydrating with the coconut water, I will probably like it more during the colder months – and believe me, it sure gets chilly and dry here in Alberta! This is a very lightweight face primer that has a soft scent to it. It’s easy to apply and absorbs easily and isn’t greasy at all. This deluxe sample may look like a small tube but you don’t need to use very much so I find that it lasts a long time. It’s also a great size to travel with! I have one that’s already in use that I keep in my camping makeup bag. (Yes, I do take some makeup when I go camping. Shush! 😉 )

I also received the Not Soap, Radio “When life gives you one too many lemons” joy inducing hand/body lotion ($0.96 USD, 20 ml) which is new… but not that new… to me. What does that mean exactly? Well, while I have never tried the lotion before, I have tried the body wash because I received it in one of my Birchbox’s. I really liked that body wash! The smell is nice. It’s refreshing and it does induce joy. It’s a mix of lemon and sugar. I like it a lot. This is also paraben and cruelty-free so that’s a bonus too. I haven’t opened this yet (I’m still trying to use up a couple of other hand lotions first) but I look forward to trying it.

ipsy glam bag july 2016

Last, but not least, the final product I received was the Luxie Beauty Rose Gold Small Angle Eye Brush 215 ($12.77 USD). You really can’t go wrong with brushes… especially if it’s Luxie! I love all my Luxie brushes and I’m so happy to add this one to my brush collection! Not only is it cute, I can use it for both eyeliner gel pots and on my brows. The brush doesn’t feel rough but is dense enough to do the job!

Here are some swatches from this month. 🙂

ipsy glam bag july 2016

The value of my July ipsy glam bag is $49.21 CAN based on today’s exchange rate. That’s not too shabby!

I also redeemed some points to get the Jersey Shore Sun Mongongo Vanilla Coconut Cream ($10.00 USD). This is one of my faves! I have already used one up completely so I was happy to be able to get another one.

ipsy glam bag july 2016

Overall, I was super happy with what I received in July! The bag wasn’t my fave but I thought it was still cute. The holographic nature of it was neat.

Not subscribing to ipsy but would like to give it a try? It is $10.00 USD  a month in the US and $10.00 USD + $4.00 USD shipping for Canadians. Please use my link – much appreciated!

Unboxing + Review: ipsy June 2016 Rebel Rebel

ipsy glam bag june 2016

My June ipsy has finally arrived!

Yes, I do realize it’s August.

It sure took a long time for my June glam bag to get here. I’m not sure what happened exactly to cause the delay but I know I wasn’t the only one affected by it. But it’s here! And I’m glad because I was really looking forward to this one. Even though this is two months late, I still really want to share because I loved everything!

Without further adieu, let’s get into it!

ipsy glam bag june 2016

ipsy glam bag june 2016

June’s glam bag was called Rebel Rebel and the bag sure matched the theme! It has a lot of fun graffiti on it. It’s a front zip bag, though, which is my least fave glam bag style.  While the bag was cute and colourful, what really made this bag for me were the products in it.

The first item that was included in my glam bag was the Elizabeth Mott Show Me Your Cheeks Blush in Peach Pink ($11.50 USD, 2.5 g). At first I was a bit hesitant because I don’t often use peach blushes but it was more on the pink side. What a nice surprise! What a gorgeous shade, too. What I really love about this blush is that it can look very natural with a light hand but it’s very buildable if you want more pop in your cheeks. The packaging is a bit cheap and is made out of plastic but that is what makes it super light and perfect to toss into your travel bag. And while I haven’t tried this yet, it seems like it would be easy to depot this blush and add it to a Z-Palette.

Next up is the Hey Honey 24seven Honey Day & Night Moisturizing Cream ($11.40 USD, 15 ml). This is a moisturizer that can be used on your face and neck and is also safe for your eye contour. I haven’t had a chance to try it yet but seeing as it’s for all skin times, I’m willing to give it a try! I’ve heard good things about this brand so I’m looking forward to it! At 15 ml, it’s a good sample size, too. If it’s as rich as it says, I don’t imagine you would need to use much for it to be effective… this sample could last you awhile!

ipsy glam bag june 2016

This next product is pretty exciting – the Urban Decay eyeshadow in Lounge ($2.93 CAD, 0.2 g) also made an appearance in my bag! What a nice surprise! This product was also available in the shade Fireball but since I don’t often wear pinks, Lounge is a better match for me. Lounge is a reddish-green duochrome and I looove duochromes! Especially the brwon-green ones… this one is close enough. It is one of their iconic shades celebrating their 20th birthday! Crazy that they have been around for that long! The longevity really shows what great products this company comes up with.

I’ve worn this quite a few times now and I am very impressed with the pigmentation at first swipe or tap of your brush. It’s also very buildable. I have only worn this with eye primer and it lasts ALL day. This pan is for sure going into my Sephora Z-Palette! 😉 This sample size is not bad but significantly smaller than what the full sized 1.5 g version is. See below for a comparison with a quarter.

The next one is a product that I hae already tried and love – the ColourPop Creme Gel Liner in Swerve ($5.00 USD, 1 oz, full size). I bought one in one of my very first ColourPop orders and I think it’s great. Swerve is a black gel liner that glides on easily and isn’t messy at all. It’s also very long lasting… I can even use it on my waterline (and I do! In the shade Brew-Haha which is my other favorite!). I’m a big ColourPop fan so it’s nice to see this brand in ipsy… it’s also nice to finally have a backup of this! Honestly, I’m surprised I haven’t purchased a backup yet…

ipsy glam bag june 2016

The last item is one that got me very curious! I have heard of coffee scrubs before but never actually tried one. The frank body Original Coffee Body Scrub ($4.12 CAD, 1.7 oz) will finally give me the opportunity to try a coffee-based body scrub! I haven’t had a chance to try it yet – hopefully soon! The packaging looks so fun! Such great directions! haha. 🙂 It’s made of 100% natural ingredients including freshly ground robusta coffee, brown sugar, sea salt, cold pressed almond oil and orange essence. It sounds like a treat! I can’t wait to try it! And if it’s good and I end up loving it, I’m glad that this Australian company will ship all the way to Canada. That is fab! 😉

ipsy glam bag june 2016

ipsy glam bag june 2016

Before we wrap this up, here are some swatches.

ipsy glam bag june 2016

The value of June’s glam bag is $43.53 CAD (based on today’s exchange rate) so that’s pretty good!

I will say this – it was one of my fave glam bags to date! So I’m really glad it came in the end and wasn’t lost… I would have been a very sad panda! Especially since I did redeem my points for two pretty fantastic items – the Treat Marshmallow Cream Jumbo Lip Scrub ($10.99 USD, 15 g, full size) a bigger-than-usual lip scrub and the “great for every day wear” Mellow Cosmetics Creamy Matte Lipstick in Nude ($13.00 USD, full size).

ipsy glam bag june 2016

How was your ipsy glam bag in June? What was your fave item you received and why? 🙂

Not subscribing to ipsy but would like to give it a try? It is $10.00 USD  a month in the US and $10.00 USD + $4.00 USD shipping for Canadians. Please use my link – much appreciated!

Until next time, my friends! <3

xoxo

P.S. – I don’t want you to have to wait too long to see what was in my July glam bag so look for that post within the week! 🙂

Bargain Buys: Shoppers Drug Mart Teen Pack and Gear for Girls 2016

When I was a kid, I loved Back to School shopping! What can I say? I’ve been a stationery junkie my entire life!

During my teen years, I remember my parents would get me something called a Teen Pack. These always became available just before the school year started and was available for both girls and boys. They would contain travel sized products of things like toothpaste, soap, anti-persperant and more. Pretty much your daily essentials.

I had forgotten that these existed until a recent trip to Shoppers Drug Mart. I also don’t remember the packs being this big and elaborate either! They come in large boxes with 14 or 15 products with quite a few of them being full sized!

At the price of $10.99, this is such a bargain! Your teen will love this! But quite honestly, these products are great for adults, too! Who says we can’t get a teen pack, as well? 😉

This year, I noticed two versions of the Teen Pack that is available for girls.

teen pack 2016

The first pack is simply called “Teen Pack” and contains these 14 products with a value of over $53:

  1. Gum Ora-Clean Soft Toothbrush – 1 count, full size
  2. GUM Professional Clean Flossers – 40 count
  3. U By Kotex Travel Pack – 6 count
  4. Purell Flip Cap Ocean Kiss Hand Sanitizer (except I received the Refreshing Gel kind) – 59 ml
  5. Quattro for Women Disposable Razor with Raspberry Rain Scented Handle – 1 count
  6. Dove Go Fresh with Mandarin and Tiare Flower Scent Soap Bars – 2 count x 90g, full size
  7. Dove Go Fresh Cool Essentials Cucumber Scent Anti-Persperant Stick – 45 g, full size
  8. Pantene Airspray Travel Size – 30 g
  9. Olay Makeup Remover Cleansing Cloths – 25 count, full size
  10. Dial Coconut Water + Mango Body Wash – 473 ml, full size
  11. Crest Pro Health Clinical Gum Protection Toothpaste – 20 ml
  12. Burt’s Bees Hydrating Lip Balm with Coconut and Pear – 4.25 g, full size
  13. Joe Fresh Lip Glass Kissable – 1 count, full size
  14. Royale Facial Tissues – 10 count

teen pack 2016

That’s pretty good considering you are getting seven full sized products!

teen pack 2016

The second – and in my opinion better – teen pack is called “Gear For Girls”. This one contains these 15 products with a value of over $64:

  1. Gum Ora-Clean Soft Toothbrush – 1 count, full size
  2. GUM Professional Clean Flossers – 40 count
  3. Platex Sport Combo Travel Pack – 4 count
  4. Quattro for Women Disposable Razor with Raspberry Rain Scented Handle – 1 count
  5. Dove Go Fresh Rebalance Body Wash in Plum and Sakura – 354 ml, full size
  6. Purell Flip Cap Ocean Kiss Hand Sanitizer – 59 ml
  7. Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes – 7 count
  8. Aveeno Invigorating Body Wash in Grapefruit + Rosemary – 473 ml, full size
  9. Nivea Lip Butter Tin in Blueberry Blush – 16.7 g, full size
  10. Burt’s Bees Hydrating Lip Balm with Coconut and Pear – 4.25 g, full size
  11. got2b Beach Trippin’ Salt Infusion Waving Spray – 200 ml, full size
  12. St. Ives Fresh Hydration Spray Lotion in Shae and Oat – 184 g, full size
  13. Yes to Cucumbers On-the-Go Facial Wipe, 1 count
  14. Essence Lipstick – full size
  15. Royale Facial Tissues, 10 count

teen pack 2016

This is the one I prefer, myself. Not only because there are eight full sized products(!!!) but because I’m likely to use more of the products that were included.

There are some products that overlap in both – like the GUM products and the Burt’s Bees – but there’s enough variety in each one that it appeals to many people. These are just so practical!

Regardless of which one you go with, at $10.99 a pack, they are a steal of a deal! A wide variety of products, many of which are full sized, makes for a great box! It’s also a great way to try many products you may have had your eye on but never bothered to purchase at full price. These also make a great gift!

When I think about it, these have been around forever. I don’t know why they aren’t talked about more! These are probably the best kept secret when it comes to  bargain buys because quite honestly, looking at the value in each box, these are a fantastic deal for everyone! And there are ones also available for guys so it caters to all audiences.

Have you bought or received a Teen Pack before? What do you love about them? 🙂

xoxo

June Favorites 2016

Another month has gone by! We are well into July already and only now am I putting together my June faves. I must say, though… it was difficult to keep my faves to only a select few! I had quite a few faves in June! However, I’ve decided to save a couple for my July post. 😉

This month I’m mixing things up a bit with my faves. I will write about my beauty favorites – as usual – but I also have a bonus fave this month. Since there’s quite a bit to go through, let’s get started!

My first June favorite is the Annabelle Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover Pads. This has been a fave since… gosh, I don’t even know! At least for the last year. This is my third jar and there are only two remover pads left in it. I already have a backup for when this runs out! Quite honestly, I’m surprised I’ve never really written about this before! This is probably my biggest “unsung hero” product. 😉

Annabelle Oil Free Eye Makeup Remover Pads

Removing my eye makeup has been effortless and quick since I started using this… it even removes mascara and waterproof eyeliner so easily! There is a smooth side and a patterned side on the pad. I love that’s it’s oil free so it doesn’t feel greasy at all and when I do have eyelash extensions (usually around when I am going on holiday somewhere hot) it’s perfect because you’re only supposed to use oil free products to make sure your lashes last as long as possible! I also wear contacts and these do not bother or irritate them at all. This stuff is great!

junefaves2016_3

My next fave is the Milani Conceal + Perfect 2-in-1 Foundation + Concealer in the shade 07 Sand. This foundation is love! Why? Well, let’s summarize:

  • It has a pump! This is huge for me. I always complain when there isn’t a pump because it gets messy! So a pump is a huge plus!
  • There are 14 shade choices – not many drugstore foundations have this much choice!
  • Feels nice on my skin. It’s not heavy or greasy. It just feels lightweight. And it’s waterproof and sweatproof to boot! And last but not least…
  • It’s a dual purpose product. I don’t need a separate concealer when I use this foundation.

There are so many positives! The one big negative, though, is that I haven’t seen this in stores in Canada yet. I sure hope it comes one day!

For more about my experience with this foundation, along with swatches and looks, you can read my in depth review of this product here.

Milani Conceal + Perfect 2-in-1 Foundation + Concealer

Okay.. what’s next? Oh yes! The Dolly Wink Liquid Eyeliner in Deep Black… straight from Japan! I had heard about this liquid liner from various sources in the last few years… YouTube, beauty blogs, etc… and I’ve always wanted to try it. Thanks to a Facebook friend who had a friend visiting her from Japan, they were nice enough to pick one up for me! I’m still ever so thankful because I’m super impressed with this eyeliner!

As you may know, I use the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner. The Dolly Wink one is very similar.. but for some reason, the brush seems a lot easier for me to use. I’m not entirely sure why. I don’t want to go too in depth here because I will be writing a review about it soon but let’s just say that it’s a rich black with awesome staying power that’s really easy to apply! All great things when you’re looking at a liquid liner. 🙂

Dolly Wink Liquid Eyeliner

Now that it’s summer, sunscreen is an important part of my skincare regime. Last year, ChickAdvisor sent me a tube of Coppertone Sensitive Skin Faces SPF 50 sunscreen to try out and review on their site. It quickly became a favorite then and I continue to use it now.

Because it’s for sensitive skin, it’s the perfect sunscreen for my face. It is free of dyes, oils, alcohol and fragrance and is non-acnegenic. It is pretty thin in consistency so it feels light on my skin. Upon application, it is very white but it’s super easy to rub in and once you rub it in, it’s no longer white. I actually like that it’s white because it helps me keep track of where I have applied the sunscreen. It’s an SPF 50 suncscreen so it’s more than enough protection for day to day. I use this daily after I apply serum and moisturizer. And at the end of the day, for just under $8 CAN at Walmart, this is a great product for an affordable price!

Coppertone Sensitive Skin Faces SPF 50

Well, that’s it for the beauty favorites!

For my bonus favorite this month, I’ve chosen an accessory – I am in love with the Carefree Bracelet from Color By Amber! It’s made with wooden beads and have two dangling charms made with the Feather interlayer. The Feather interlayer is probably one of my faves!

Color By Amber Carefree Bracelet

What I love the most about this bracelet is that it goes with everything! Regardless of what clothes I am wearing or  what colors my clothes are, this will match it. It looks great on it’s own but I love pairing it with skinnies! This bracelet (and the skinnies) are so light and comfortable to wear and is a versatile piece that I can wear with anything and everything! You really can’t go wrong with it!

So there you go, all of my June faves! What were you lovin’ this month? Share in the comments below! 🙂

xoxo

Disclaimer: I purchased everything mentioned in this post with my own money. The only exception is the Coppertone Sensitive Skin Faces SPF 50 sunscreen which I received for free from ChickAdvisor in exchange for my honest opinion.
