September Favorites 2016

september favorites 2016

We are now into autumn! Fall is quite possibly my favorite season. Don’t get me wrong – summer is right up there but the colours of fall and the crisp fresh air can’t be beat! It’s probably our shortest season around here so I do my best to really enjoy it.  Since it’s raining and pouring today, I decided it was time to reflect on what I loved in September.

Let’s start with makeup this month. 🙂 My first favorite is Benefit Cosmetic’s Watt’s Up! Cream-to-Powder Highlighter. I received this in my Sephora Birthday Gift in 2013 but only starting using it last year when I started using highlighters. (And now I’m a highlighter junkie! 😉 )  I have considered this to be a long time favorite of mine. It is just so easy to use and the champagne colour is perfect for my skin tone. I usually apply this to my brow bone,  on my upper cheeks, the top of my nose and on the cleft above my lip. I then blend it in and it achieves a nice glow. It can be as subtle as you want it to be but it is definitely buildable. This deluxe sized sample has lasted me a long time and I have only used about half of it! I can’t imagine how long a full sized version would last! This is definitely one of my fave highlighters that I will continue to use and repurchase in the future!

I have another makeup favorite and it is the Elizabeth Mott Show Me Your Cheeks Blush in Peach Pink. I received this in my June ipsy glam bag (which arrived well into July) but once I started using it, I was hooked! I am pretty sure that I have been using this blush just about every single day in the past month – I love it that much! It is more pink than peach and it gives my cheekbones the perfect pop of colour. Similar to the Benefit Watt’s Up!, you can choose to have just a little bit of colour or a lot – this is super buildable and easy to apply. This formula is also very easy to blend. So many reasons why I love it! I never get backups of blushes because I can never use one up but I had to get myself a backup of this because I would be crushed if I ever ran out.

Now onto skin care. My pick for September is the Hey Honey 24Seven Day & Night Moisturizing Cream. This also came in my June ipsy glam bag and I have been loving it ever since! The deluxe size is 15 ml but you definitely don’t need to use very much of it so 15 ml will last you awhile.  Great for all skin types, it’s a light cream that is very moisturizing. I really like how it smells too. It can be used on your face, neck and around your eye area so it’s a great all-around moisturizer. It’s also paraben free which is something I prefer. I am so happy to have discovered this moisturizer. I already purchased a full sized bottle for when I run out of my deluxe sample. 🙂

For hair care this month, I have been reaching for my deluxe sample of Alterna Haircare Bamboo Smooth Kendi Oil Dry Oil Mist pretty much every day. This stuff is fab and my hair is loving it! It is a hair treatment that does everything from repairing split ends to banishing frizz and protecting your colour. It smells great, too! You just spray it on when your hair is damp then I usually use my hair dryer. By the time my hair is dry, it feels silky smooth and it’s not as frizzy as it usually is. I have really become a fan of this product and will definitely be repurchasing it in the future! Perhaps during Sephora’s November sale. 😉

Now that I have finished covering all my beauty faves, I have a jewelry fave, too. I have been wearing this Aquamarine wrap bracelet from Color By Amber  just about every day. Usually I wear it as a bracelet but not only is it a bracelet, it also doubles as a necklace! Or is it a necklace that doubles as a bracelet? Either way, it is fantastic! It looks great by itself or with other CBA bracelets and skinnies. Since a lot of my wardrobe is greens and blues, I find that this accessory just adds to my every day look. It looks great with basic colours, like black, grey and white, too! It’s super versatile and I adore it. 🙂

Last but not least, I have a clothing fave. I bought this Tailor Vintage red and black plaid shirt from Costco and it has been a staple in my wardrobe ever since! I’m not sure if you’ve noticed but plaid is everywhere this fall! Costco also had this in a few other color combinations, such as, black and white, purple and black and blue and grey. If I can recall, it was $14.99 CAD so it was super affordable – you can’t go wrong with that! This shirt goes well with a lot of what is already in my closet and I love the length of it. I can easily wear it with skinny jeans or leggings. The fabric is so soft and it’s SO comfy. A good plaid shirt is a definite must have in your closet this season so this was a welcomed addition to my wardrobe.

So there you have it! All my September favorites. I hope you enjoyed what I had to share. Now it’s your turn – what did you love in the month of September? Please share in the comments below. I love hearing about your faves because then it gives me ideas of what I should be trying.

August Favorites 2016

august favorites 2016

It’s almost the end of August! So I decided to skip my July favorites in favor of jumping straight into my August favorites. It’s a decision I made because I was blindsided by how quickly the summer is flying by! In ways, I feel like I lost the entire month of July – seriously, where did it go? I feel like I blinked and it was the end of August. Go figure.

For some reason, when I was trying to pick out a few choice faves, I had a very difficult time trying to decide on what my August favorites were. Because I skipped a month, there were so many! I really didn’t want to have to write a novel! So I made some quick picks – saving what I didn’t choose this month for next month – and here they are. 🙂

This month my first favorite is a makeup favorite – the Mellow Cosmetics face blush in the shade Bronze. Wait, what? A bronze blush, you say? Yes, you did hear me correctly! I will admit, when I first received this in my March 2016 ipsy bag, I was skeptical. “Wouldn’t this make more sense as a bronzer rather than a blush?”, I asked. Silly question, I know. I soon found out that it really is pretty amazing! It could just be my skin tone, though… I’m quite tanned at the moment… but it really gives my cheeks a nice flush of colour. It’s nicely pigmented. You can apply as little as you want and if you want more colour, it’s easy to build up. It applies amazingly well with my Sedona Lace FB 05 Travel Dome Contour Face Brush. I do really want to try more Mellow blush colours! They have Peach and Pink. Maybe one day… oh, and yes, you totally can use this as a bronzer if you choose to. 😉

My next favorite is not makeup but it is closely related to it. The INSPR Eye Fluff Brush – which I also received through ipsy back in May – is pretty darned amazing! It picks up just enough eye shadow and it blends like a dream! I have not tried a brush quite like this which makes blending eye shadow so easy. The bristles are nice and soft. Unfortunately, INSPR doesn’t ship to Canada because I would definitely consider trying other brushes from this brand. I did, however, swap for another one of these brushes just so I would always have a clean one when the other is dirty. Yes, I love this bruh that much!

Of course, I also have to throw in a skincare favorite. This month I have chosen the Nourish Organic Renewing Eye Cream. I had completely forgotten about this until I noticed it again in my stash. I honestly don’t know how I could forget about it, though! I have tried many eye creams… SO MANY eye creams… but this one actually made a difference to my puffy under eye area. The formulation of this eye cream contains avocado and argan oil that helps condition and hydrate your skin. You don’t need a lot and it absorbs quickly. Overall, I am sure happy about this eye cream and often wonder what I will do when I run out! As you can see, I’m pretty close to running out of this amazing stuff! I may order it but to ship a $21 USD cream to Canada costs $20 USD so I am not sure if I will be repurchasing unless I can find a cheaper alternative of getting this product. We shall see…

Makeup… skincare.. what’s next? How about hair care? The Bumble and Bumble Repair Blow Dry also made my faves this month. To be honest, this has been a fave for many months now… ever since I received a little sample of it from a Sephora VIB Rouge event goodie bag I received earlier this year. I have since purchased a full size and tried the All Style Blow Dry that’s for all hair types but I didn’t like it as much. The Repair Blow Dry is said to be for dry hair but I find that it works great on my normal hair, too. I use it before I blow dry and it’s so easy to apply in our hair. It smells fantastic and doesn’t make my hair feel heavy or sticky at all! I love that it’s a great multi-purpose product that helsp fight frizzy ends and protects against heat and UV damage – all great things! My hair has never felt better since I have started using this!

august favorites 2016

That’s all from the world of beauty this month… but let’s not stop there! I also had a favorite book this month and it’s called The Glam Guide by Fleur De Force. You may have heard of Fleur De Force before. She is a YouTuber, vlogger, blogger and now author! Quite honestly, she is the one YouTuber I started watching years ago when I first discovered the world of beauty videos on YouTube who I still watch today. I always look forward to her vlogging months because it seems like she’s always doing something cool and takes us along with her as she goes about her day. She’s my fave YouTuber, really. 🙂 I was actually quite excited to learn she was writing a book last year and so I put the book on my Christmas wish list and my hubby found it and included it in my gift. I was a happy girl on Christmas Day! The version that I received is the North American one – the UK version has a different cover – and the cover is so great. It sums up the book and the watercolours are lovely.

august favorites 2016

Her book is great – it is very well written and it’s illustrated beautifully. It’s a fairly quick read that includes some great tidbits about topics such as makeup, hair, lifestyle motivation and even includes a section for those who are curious about starting up your own YouTube channel or blog. Fleur’s second book, called The Luxe Life, was just recently released in the UK. At the time of writing this blog post, I couldn’t find a release date for Canada but I’m hoping I will be able to get it here too. I wouldn’t mind checking it out. Maybe I can add it to my Christmas wish list this year. 😉 Anyways, back to The Glam Guide. It’s a lovely book. And it makes for an awesome coffee table book to boot!

So that’s it for my August faves. What were you loving this month? Share in the comments below! I’d love to hear from you!

xoxo

2014 Beauty Favorites: Makeup Edition

2014 was a big makeup year for me! I truly took the time to discover products and found out what kinds I really liked and which ones just didn’t float my boat. I also accidentally made it to VIB Rouge this year (thanks to my Clarisonic purchase, eeks) so I may have gone a tad crazy.

To wrap things up in regards to 2014, I have put together this post, combining all of my favorite makeup products in the past 12 months. I will be putting together a second 2014 Beauty Favorites post for hair, body and skin care in the next week or so. For now, let’s get going and discuss makeup! Apologies in advance – this is going to be a long post! But there were so many makeup loves last year! 🙂

Haul for the Holidays: MAC Cosmetics

After spending five days in Las Vegas, enjoying the heat, partaking in some shopping, doing a little bit of gambling and enjoying some great eats, I have returned! To a very snowy and very cold city. My apologies for my absence and lack of new posts!

Today I am starting a new series of posts I would like to call Haul for the Holidays! It is a series of holiday purchases, gift ideas and a look into a few of the holiday sets available for the 2014 season. I mean, who can resist the holiday sets brands come out with at this time of year? It really is truly the best time of the year to purchase beauty products!  This series kicks off with the MAC Cosmetics edition.

A few weeks ago, I had decided to go to MAC to replenish my select sheer powder. I really didn’t have very much left and this was a problem considering it is one of my holy grail items that I can never be without! It is what I use as a finishing touch when I put my makeup on – after foundation but before finishing spray.

With my luck, I went on the day they released their holiday collection. If you know me, you know how weak I am when it comes to holiday collections! Especially in the case of MAC! Their limited edition collections seem to always fly off the shelves so you have to make quick decisions when you are interested in something. So I maaaaay have picked up a couple of things. Okay, I did pick up a couple of things. Some limited edition, some not so much.

Here is my MAC Haul for the Holidays! 🙂

haulholiday_mac_1

1. MAC Select Sheer Pressed Powder in NC35 (Permanent)
I blame this product for starting this haul post. There wouldn’t be a haul post without it! As I said, this is why I stepped into the store in the first place. I don’t want to go on and on about it because you can read my favorites post about it here.

2. MAC Keepsakes: Eyes Eyeshadow Palette in Plum Eyes (Limited Edition)
The holiday palettes are in such gorgeous packaging this year! That is what originally caught my eye when I walked in – “Oooh, shiny! What is that pretty thing?” I said to myself. While I was tempted to buy all three palettes (it also came in Beige Eyes and Smoky Eyes), I only got one – Plum Eyes.

If you don’t already know it, I have a soft spot for purple eyeshadows. It is a fantastic color that goes really well with brown eyes and it works great with neutrals! It has been awhile… years!… since I last purchased eyeshadow from MAC but I know from previous purchases that I really like the formulation of their eyeshadows. When it comes to pigmentation, this palette was very hit and miss for me. Some colors, mainly the darker ones) were very pigmented. The lighter colors were not. This is okay, though, because the lighter shades make great base colors.

It comes with eight colors which is more than the usual six colors that previous holiday palettes featured. The colors are (from left to right):

Top Row:

  • Sensibility – a pale frosty pink (frost)
  • Taupeless – an icy pink with silver sparkle (lustre)
  • Plum Grand – a dirty frosty lavender (veluxe pearl)
  • Nocturnelle – a pinkedup chrome purple (frost)

Bottom Row:

  • Fashion Beat – a dirty violet grey (lustre)
  • Subtly Elegant – a light grey lilac (matte)
  • Shadowy Lady – a blackened plum (matte)
  • Magic Moor – a blackened plum with pearl (veluxe pearl)

As you can see, it comes in colors that work really well with each other and in a variety of finishes. A great versatile palette! It also comes with a double-ended brush featuring a mini version of the 213 fluff brush and the 219 pencil brush (which, by the way, I love!). For those interested, swatches are below.

3. MAC Keepsakes: Viva Glamorous Lip Palette (Limited Edition)
You know how they say good things come in small packages? Would all six Viva Glam lipsticks in one palette qualify? I would think so! I haven’t tried all the Viva Glam lipsticks yet (the only one I own is Viva Glam IV which I adore) so this was a no-brainer purchase for me. This will give me the chance to try them all without having to spend an arm and a leg. The single full sized lipsticks are $19.00 CAN for 0.1 oz while this palette is $48.00 CAN for 0.252 oz (0.042 oz each).

Also, because they are in a palette, you can easily mix the different colors and experiment with them, too. Available in a variety of finishes from matte to frost to satin to lustre, it is a great set for someone who just wants to try out the Viva Glam line or just red lipsticks in general. The one thing I didn’t like is that it doesn’t come with a lip brush so if you don’t already have one, you would have to get one to use with it. Overall though, the value is fantastic.

4. MAC Sized to Go Pigment in Kitschmas (Permanent)
I don’t know about you guys but I have never been able to go through and finish a full-sized pigment before! Until now, I had no idea they made a smaller version for select colors! I love that they have done this! It is 2.5 g instead of 4.5 g – just over half of the full sized version.

I have always wanted to try Kitschmas so I thought this was the perfect way to try it. Plus, the size is perfect for travel! Like other pigments, the color payoff is fantastic. Kitschmas is super sparkly so you can finish off a look with it and you can also use it to highlight the corners of your eyes, too. This is is also a nice treat as a stocking stuffer or to add to a Secret Santa gift.

5. MAC Sized to Go Fix+ (Permanent)
I love travel sized products! Not only are they portable, it’s also an excellent way to try a new product. I’ve never tried the Fix+ before but I’ve certainly heard many good things about it! I have been using it since I got it and so far, I’m really liking it! I took it along with me on my Vegas trip and let me tell you, this stuff is amazing. I would put on makeup first thing in the day and it lasted all day. No touch ups required! I may have to buy a larger bottle now and keep this little one for travel.

I hope you enjoyed a look into my holiday haul from MAC. Did you indulge in any of the MAC holiday products? Let me know what you got or what is on your wish list!

Speaking of holiday collections, I did pick up a few things with my 20% off VIB Rouge discount earlier on this week. I am working on a Sephora Haul for the Holidays post so stay tuned for that! 😉

Fall Favorites: Lip Edition

my fave lip products for fall 2014
my fave lip products for fall 2014

It’s fall! And you know what that means… pumpkin spice lattes, warm scarves, sweater weather, and fabulous fall colors!

It also means that it’s a great excuse to write a favorites post. 🙂

I picked out five of my current fave lip products to share with you. I have at least one or two of these in my purse at any given time and love them all! Let’s begin, shall we?

1. Buxom Full-On Lip Polish in “Olivia”

If I had to pick just one lip product to be my ultimate favorite, I would definitely pick the Full-On Lip Polish from Buxom Cosmetics. And I would definitely say that “Olivia” is my favorite shade! Okay, okay, so I may be biased. We both have the same name! But seriously. This lip gloss is amazing! I have been using it since June and it’s been a staple in my purse. Heck, I’ve already used up half of it! At this rate, I will need to purchase a new one when Sephora has their next VIB sale.

Buxom’s Full-On Lip Polish comes in 100 different colors (for real!) at Sephora. Each with a different girl’s name. This is by far the largest line of lip gloss that I have ever seen! It comes in a 0.15 oz tube which lasts a long time. In my quest to find safer cosmetics, I also really like that it is without parabens, phthalates and sulfates.

The shade “Olivia” looks like a super bright pink shimmer in the tube but is a sheer pink on the lips. So while the color may look intimidating in the tube, it’s great for every day wear. When you put it on, you start to feel a tingling sensation. On the Sephora site, it mentions this tingling is due to a “plumping effect”. I don’t find the formulation of this gloss sticky which is a huge plus for me seeing as I am not a fan of sticky lip glosses!

2. NYX Cosmetics Butter Lipstick in “Mary Jane” and “Pop”

Last time I was in Vegas, I went on the hunt for the Butter Lipsticks! I didn’t have a car so I couldn’t go to Ulta. I couldn’t find it anywhere on the Strip. Very disappointing. Let me tell you, when I saw that my local Rexall started carrying the NYX Butter Glosses and Butter Lipsticks the other day, I almost jumped for joy in the store! I had tried the Butter Glosses before but not the Butter Lipsticks so this was really exciting for me.

I am not going to get into this too much because I know that I am going to be doing a separate post with more pictures just to review the NYX Cosmetics Butter Lipsticks. But I will show you a picture and tell you that I just adore them. I have been wearing them for the last couple of days now and prefer the Butter Lipstick to the Butter Glosses. By quite a bit actually!

3. Lancome Lip Lover in “Lip Lover”

I received this lip gloss from a good friend at my bridal shower in May and since then, it’s been a great addition to my lip collection! Quite honestly, I had seen this product around at Shoppers and Hudson’s Bay but never really had an interest in it. And at first impression, looking at it through the little window on the tube, I thought it might be a little too pink. I was pleasantly surprised when I first tried it on! It is a little bit sheer but the pink color looks great! This was the firsts pink gloss that I have been able to pull off. Very impresed!

It goes on smoothly and it’s not at all sticky. It is moisturizing and gives off great shine. I also like the packaging. Similar to Lancome’s Gloss in Love line, you push a button on the side of the tube and the lid pops up. I find this to be long lasting and is one of my go-to products for the office!

4. Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain in “Parisian Passion”

If you are looking for a rich fall color, look no further! Revlon’s Colorstay Moisture Stain in “Parisian Passion” absolutely screams fall! It is a very deep berry color which I was intimidated by at first but when I tried it, I was hooked! It’s not sticky. It goes on with such a rich color that lingers as a stain even after having a bite to eat or drinking your morning coffee. I would really like to try more of these. Perhaps I will get another when they go on sale! (Which does happen – keep an eye on your Shoppers Drug Mart flyer!)

5. GOSH Cosmetics Lip Lacquer in “Funky Lips”*

The kind folks over at ChickAdvisor sent me a care package of GOSH products to review. I will have a post dedicated to this soon so I won’t go into too much detail here. Included was GOSH Cosmetic’s Lip Lacquer in the color “006 Funky Lips”. It comes in a cute bottle reminiscent of a nail polish bottle. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a lipgloss in this type of packaging before! But now down to the nitty gritty: this is such a fun color! It is very pigmented. So bright! Excellent staying power. Even after drinking and eating. So it made it to my fave lip products this fall. I’ll write more about this soon, I promise!

And that my friends, is all I have for fall lip favorites! If you’re curious, swatches are below.

Have you tried any of these? What did you think?

If you have a fave lip product you’d like to share, please leave it in the comments below! I love discovering new products!
