Unboxing + Review: ipsy May 2017 Summer Friday

ipsy may 2017

Are you ready for summer? I sure am! And May’s glam bag is just the thing one needs to kickstart their summer season.

Titled Summer Friday, May’s glam bag is so cute and proper. It features ice cream and popsicles and is waterproof. It screams summer and is perfect for the pool, the beach and other summer activities!

ipsy may 2017

ipsy may 2017

I received a good mix of products in May. Let’s take a look!

ipsy may 2017 benefit cosmetics gimme brow

The first item in my bag was the Benefit Cosmetics gimme brow volumizing fiber gel in the shade 5 ($10.67 CAD, 1 g). I used to love gimme brow. The old version. I’m not sure if they changed the formulation of this when they changed the packaging but I have tried this new version before but it didn’t work out too well for me. The skin around my brows became super dry. I couldn’t tell if it was an allergic reaction or if it just dried out my skin. I don’t know if I received old product… so I’m a bit pensive. I’m not sure if I will try this again. I have heard that it has worked wonders for others, though!

ipsy may 2017 hempz

Next we have the Hempz Pomegranate Herbal Body Moisturizer ($7.50 CAD, 2.25 oz). This is a nice sized sample and smells heavenly! I will definitely be trying this one out.

ipsy may 2017 trestique

The trestique Mini Matte Lip Crayon I received what in the shade Tuscan Wine ($10.67 USD, 0.025 oz). I’m not sure about this colour. I don’t often use colours this dark and dramatic. While I love the formulation (I have other shades of this product), I think I am going to pass on this shade. This doesn’t quite work with my day-to-day work and weekend looks. It would be nice, though, if I were going glam… which doesn’t happen often.

ipsy may 2017 luxie

ipsy may 2017 luxie

This next product is great – Luxie Beauty’s Dreamcatcher Precision Foundation Brush 660 ($30.91 USD). This brush can be used to apply liquid, cream or powder foundations, concealers, highlighters and bronzers. I absolutely adore my other Luxie brushes so I’m happy to add this to my collection. They feel so soft and work so well. Plus, the handle colour of the Dreamcatcher line is beautiful!

ipsy may 2017 kvossnyc

The final product in my May glam bag is the KVossNYC Macaroon Lip Balm in Light Cream ($14.00 USD, 0.25 oz). Being the self-proclaimed lip balm junkie that I am, I always welcome a new lip balm to try! It smells sweet and it’s supposed to be very moisturizing. Looking forward to trying this. πŸ™‚

So that’s it for this month! The total value of my May ipsy glam bag was roughly $92.00 CAD based on today’s exchange rate. That’s not bad at all! The unfortunate part is that I don’t love all the products. Aside from the body lotion, brush and lip balm, I am not a fan of the other products. That’s the risk you take with these beauty subscriptions!

ipsy may 2017

This is my final remaining monthly subscription. The remainder of my subscriptions are all seasonal. I’m okay with that, though, because I do need to downsize my collection badly. Subscriptions can really pile up! Oh well, I am still enjoying my ipsy bag. I love at least having one sub to surprise me every month. πŸ™‚

Like what you see here? For those of you who would like to give this a try and would like to know more, this subscription is $10.00 USD  a month in the US and $10.00 USD + $4.00 USD shipping for Canadians. You get a mix of skincare, makeup and haircare deluxe and full sized products. And you get a different style of bag each month. If you are interested in trying this subscription, please use my link here. ?

Enjoy the rest of your week everyone!

Review: Nivea Must Haves – ChickAdvisor

chickadvisor nivea must haves

I have heard of the Nivea brand for as long as I can remember! I remember my Mom used to buy the classic Nivea Creme when I was little. It is a tried and true brand that has been around and has lasting power. Personally, I have not used many Nivea products yet… but we are about to change that!

I recently had the opportunity to try out a handful of Nivea products through ChickAdvisor’s Product Review Club. Five Nivea products were included in the Nivea Must Haves Campaign and I was excited to try each and every one!

The first product I tried when I received this package in the mail were the Nivea Creme Care Facial Cleansing Wipes. I figured, it was the end of the day and it was time to remove my makeup so, why not?

chickadvisor nivea must haves

This is a brand new product to the Nivea product line. Each cloth has the signature Nivea Creme scent! The cleansing cloth is very, very soft and gentle on your skin. It’s not at all abrasive. It does remove most of my makeup, however, I still felt the need to cleanse my face to get a more thorough cleansing after using the cleansing wipes. Leading me to what I tried next…

The Nivea Creme Care All-in-One Facial Cleansing Lotion was the perfect “next step” in my night time skincare routine. How convenient! This is also a brand new product and it is said to have “skin- friendly ingredients” that “cleanses face and eyes thoroughly while protecting skin’s natural moisture balance.” That sounds lovely, doesn’t it? Now that the weather is getting colder and the skin is getting drier here in Alberta, it’s exactly what the doctor ordered!

chickadvisor nivea must haves

When I squeezed some of the cleansing lotion onto my hand, I noticed right away that it also had the signature scent of Nivea Creme. (I’m sensing a trend here!) Application  was smooth and it does feel like a lotion on my skin. This concerned me at first because I wasn’t sure if it would rinse off easily but I was wrong. I was rinsed it off with ease and my face felt very soft. As if I already had a moisturizer on. I was pretty happy with it.

The next product is a classic. The Nivea Creme is the original moisturizer that kick started everything! You can use it on your body, face or hands and it comes in numerous sizes (400 ml, 250 ml, 150 ml). It’s a very rich and thick moisturizing cream so it’s awesome for dry skin. I like how small this tin is. I will be adding this to the makeup bag that I keep in my purse for those moments when I need a hand cream.

chickadvisor nivea must haves

So what’s next? Oh yes, the Nivea Protect & Care Anti-Perspirant/Deodorant. I am usually a fan of gel anti-perspirants but this solid is pretty good! It has a nice, light scent and it works great as an everyday anti-perspirant. It is still effective even when I’m working out AFTER work… roughtly 10 hours after I first apply this after my shower in the morning! So I really can’t complain.

chickadvisor nivea must haves

And I have saved the best for last! Honestly, this product is the biggest surprise to me. As you may already know, I’m a big lip balm junkie! I keep one in my purse, my makeup vanity, my nightstand… all the important places where I may need a lip balm! So when I received the Nivea Essential Lip Balm, I was intrigued. I’ve seen this product in stores but I never had the urge to try it. Now that I have, all I have to say is – what took me so long??? I love this lip balm! It’s super hydrating! A great addition to my lip balm collection just in time for winter! To be perfectly honest, this lip balm has not left my purse since I first put it in there for “testing purposes” the day I received my package from ChickAdvisor. I use it every single day. LOVE!

chickadvisor nivea must haves

Overall, I was just so impressed with the Nivea Must Haves! ChickAdvisor doesn’t fail me when they send me these awesome boxes to try and I am just so thankful for the opportunity. πŸ™‚

Have you tried any of these Nivea Must Haves? What’s your fave product? Or if you haven’t tried anything yet, what are you looking forward to trying?

’till next time, friends!

Unboxing + Review: Topbox September 2016

topbox september 2016

If you remember, earlier this year, I had a love-hate relationship with this subscription box. It was super affordable compared to its counterparts but I really wasn’t digging any of the products I was receiving. That’s when I cut the cord and ended my relationship with Topbox.

After many months of not getting this sub, I resubscribed to Topbox. Why? Because I have been impressed with some of their recent boxes and I wanted to try my luck again. I told myself I would give it one month.

When the survey came, I was not too impressed with any of the prive boxes – as usual – so I went with the regular box. When it arrived, I still hadn’t received my email that told me what was in the box so I was puzzled as to why I received a larger parcel! I did choose the organza bag, right?

To my surprise, they had also sent me a complimentary Unilever Box. How awesome is that?! I will do a quick mini unboxing here but I think I will do a separate blog post just for the Unilever box alone. There’s a lot of stuff in that box so there is a lot to cover!

Anyways, before we get into that, let’s take a look at what I received in my Regular Topbox.

First up is the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation in 127 =Y335 Dark Sand ($8.24 CAD, 5 ml). I have tried this foundation before, only it was in the shade Y375 Golden Sand. Golden Sand worked great with my skin tone. I don’t notice a huge difference between the two shades except maybe Dark Sand is a tad lighter. This foundation is very easy to apply and blend onto your skin. It also feels very light on your skin and doesn’t look cakey. It is a medium coverage foundation and gives you a pretty natural look I find that it does last most of the day and that’s a huge selling point for me. I heard this is a new formulation of the old HD foundation but  have never tried the old formulation so I can’t really make a comparison. Either way, I don’t mind this foundation and I’m glad I received this! I cannot say no to a travel sized bottle of foundation!

topbox september 2016

The next product I received was the BVspa by bon vital Body Lotion in Pink Grapefruit ($2.53 CAD, 50 ml). My first thought was “Wow, that smells very citrusy!”. I’m not sure how I feel about the scent of grapefruit. It’s not my favorite but I can live with it. It’s very strong scented, though.  I am quite happy to see that it is paraben, sulfate and phthalate free – that gives the product major points! I’m glad that this is sealed because I have enough hand and body lotions that are open and in use right now so this one will have to wait. Perhaps I will take this on my next holiday.

topbox september 2016

I was super happy to see the gorge* I’ll make you look amazing daily spray ($8.11 CAD, 1 oz) because I have tried it before when I received it from Birchbox Canada and I absolutely adore it! And it really does! Make you look amazing, I mean. Because every time I use this, my hair looks healthy, shiny, and less frizzy so my hair really does look amazing when I use it. And it smells AMAZING! This has become one of my fave hair products this year so another bottle of this is always welcomed. It will come in super handy when I go on holidays! This is slowly making it’s way to becoming holy grail for me. That says a lot.

topbox september 2016

The last item I received was a deluxe sample of Marcelle New Age 3-in-1 Lumi Power ($4.54 CAD, 7 ml). I do like Marcelle products so I was excited to try one of their new products. It says you can use it day and night, as well as, around your eye area. So that’s the “3-in-1” bit! It claims to be anti-aging and anti-fatigue which is great for those days when you aren’t quite on top of your game. After trying it a few times now, I love it! It’s very lightweight gel, not sticky and absorbs into your skin quickly. I was impressed! This is definitely something I will continue to use and consider repurchasing one day. Maybe make use of the $3 off coupon on the package!

topbox september 2016

The value of my September box was $23.42 CAD. Not bad for a $12 box. And I’ve gotta say, it was a good variety of products in this box! It touched all the bases, in my opinion. Makeup, body care, hair care, skin care… that’s pretty good!

So that’s it for now… oh, wait! Here’s a sneak peek of the Unilever Box that I received as a bonus. A more in depth look at the contents will be in another post coming next week. This post would turn into a novel if I dove into the contents now. I will link to it here as soon as it’s available! It was a great surprise, for sure!

Beauty Empties 2

Beauty Empties - what I loved and what I didn't

Ever get the feeling that you’re behind? Because that is DEFINITELY how I feel about my empties! I figured that, since my box of empties just keeps fuller and fuller, I need to do something about it! It’s not my ideal to keep a box of garbage around. πŸ˜‰ So in an attempt to catch up, here are some of my body product empties. The good, the bad – I will discuss it all!

beauty empties 2

The Empties

Product: Aveeno Eczema Care Moisturizing Cream
Rating (out of 5): 4
Repurchase?: Yes – already have!
Thoughts: I don’t nearly get as many episodes of eczema as I did when I was a kid but I do keep this on hand just in case my skin flares up. I used to get eczema a lot and over larger parts of my body. Nowadays, I usually get a small flare up in the inside of my elbow, on my hands and during the odd time I get it on my face when the air is drier in the winter. I have tried a number of drugstore creams that are supposed to help you during your flare ups and this one is the only one I really like! This actually made a difference for my skin, unlike the others. It’s a thick cream but it absorbs fast. It’s not scented so it’s great for those who are sensitive or allergic to fragrances. I purchased one right away after this one ran out!

Product: Bath and Body Works Anti-Bacterial Hand Sanitizer in Summer Escape
Rating (out of 5): 5
Repurchase?: Yes – BUT this scent is no longer available πŸ™
Thoughts: This is the larger size of BBW’s hand sanitizer. I have had this forever! It lasted a long, long time. It’s been sitting on my desk at work for years! I love the scent! It’s just so fresh and just really nice.  I would definitely repurchase if they ever bring this particular scent back. It’s SO good and I do love BBW hand sanitizers.

Product: Jergens Moisturizer for Wet Skin in Green Tea
Rating (out of 5): 5
Repurchase?: Yes – already repurchased a full size πŸ™‚
Thoughts: I must say, I was really skeptical about wet skin lotions because when I tried the Nivea one, I almost slipped in the shower! When I saw the Jergens one, I wasn’t keen on trying it until I realized that, unlike the Nivea one where you apply it while you shower, the Jergens one is applied after your shower while your skin is still wet. That lowered the risk of using it so I gave it a try. And the verdict? Love, love, love! I wasn’t sure about the green tea scent at first but I really like it! I find it very zen, to be honest. I repurchased it when I saw that it was on sale at Shoppers. Green tea isn’t the only scent – I made a swap for the Coconut scent but I haven’t had a chance to try it yet.

beauty empties 2

Product: Secret Scent Expressions Clear Gel Antiperspirant/Deodorant in Va Va Vanilla
Rating (out of 5): 4 (would’ve given it a 5 but I prefer the lavender scent!)
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: Secret Scent Expressions has been my go-to for the last year or so. It dries fast and it works great for me! My usual is Ohh-La-La Lavender which I adore! But I decided to try one of the other scents so I got Va Va Vanilla. This one still smells nice but I prefer the lavender. The scent itself aside, the clear gel is such a great product! I always repurchase this product – regardless of the scent. I just gravitate to the lavender one more often than not. πŸ™‚

Product: Olay Ultra Moisture with Shae Butter Body Wash x 2
Rating (out of 5): 3
Repurchase?: Maybe
Thoughts: I have quite a few of these samples kicking around so I decided to start using them. I used up two of the smaller 50 ml bottles. They are okay. They lather nicely and it smells okay. It works great as a body was but there isn’t anything about it that makes me want to continue using it.

Product: Vitabath Fruit Fanatic Wild Red Cherry Body Wash
Rating (out of 5): 4
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: I preferred this one to the Olay body wash. I reviewed above. It smells so nice! Shame the bottle was so small, though. It is sulfate and paraben free so that’s great, too!  This also lathers nicely. Pretty good stuff! I would buy a full sized bottle of this.

Product: Templespa La La Lagoon Aromatic Bath and Shower Gel
Rating (out of 5): 5
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: I received this from one of my Birchbox Canada sub boxes and I was hesitant to use it at first. It has a really strong scent… but I found that it grows on you. After awhile, you just feel like you’re at the spa. It’s was always so nice and relaxing to use in the mornings. A great pick me up start to the day! I’m not sure where I could get this again but it was really nice. I’d consider repurchasing it one day.

beauty empties 2

That’s it Folks!

There you go, my body product empties. For now anyways. I feel like, with my Project Pan right now and just tryingn to get through products in general, I am collecting many empties. Look for another post very soon! I finished a lot in the months of August and September that I will cover.

How did you do last month? What was your fave empty? πŸ™‚

Birchbox Canada July 2015 Unboxing

Holy smokes! How is it September already? I noticed the leaves are starting to change… and as beautiful as fall is, I’m not sure I’m quite ready for the cold yet!

I am behind. Yes, I know. So this is going to be a very quick, very abbreviated – but not too abbreviated because I do love some of these products! – version of July’s Birchbox unboxing.
