January Empties – Products I Have Used Up and Throwaways – 2018

january empties

It has been a long time since my last empties post! I had a huge backlog of empty products that I just got rid of back in November… it got to be too much to document! It was overwhelming! So I’m starting over. Here are my empties from December 2017 and January. 🙂 There are quite a few of them so it’s been a good two months!

Included in this post are empties and throwaways. Empties are the ones I have used up whereas throwaways are just products that I really didn’t like or were expired.

Makeup Empties

Product: Smashbox Photo Finish More Than Primer Blemish Control (deluxe size, 7 ml)
Rating (out of 5): 4
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: This was surprisingly a very good primer. I did notice a reduction in my hormonal breakouts while I was using it but I wasn’t using it long enough to determine if it’s because of the salicylic acid in this product or something else. At the end of the day, it did a good job keeping my makeup in place so I would repurchase this… except, I don’t know if this was discontinued because it’s no longer on the Smashbox or Sephora sites.

Product: Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer (deluxe, 7 ml)
Rating (out of 5): 4
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: I remember years and years ago when this was the very first face primer I have ever used. By using this sample, I remember just how much I like it. It feels light on my skin and keeps my makeup set in place. I really don’t have complaints about this product. It’s an oldie but a goodie! 🙂

Product: Wet n Wild proline Felt Tip Eyeliner (full size, 0.5 g)
Rating (out of 5): 2
Repurchase?: No
Thoughts: Not the best liquid eyeliner I have used… the pen dried up rather quickly. It was easy to apply my eyeliner until it started to dry up. It was okay and the price was really good but I’m not sure I would buy this again. I think I will stick to my tried and true Kat Von D liquid eyeliner.

Makeup Throw Aways

Product: Too Faced Sketch Marker in Black (full size, 0.45 g)
Rating (out of 5): 3
Repurchase?: Maybe
Thoughts: This is pretty old and I haven’t used it in a long time. If I am going to be honest, I don’t remember if it was good and it’s too old for me to use now to make that determination.

Product: theBalm Mr. Write (Now) in Jac (full size, 0.28 g)
Rating (out of 5): 2
Repurchase?: No
Thoughts: This eyeliner is all dried up. I haven’t used it in a long time and I don’t think I liked it that much. This one was a pass for me.

Product: trestique Mini Brow Pencil in Espresso (deluxe size, 0.13 g)
Rating (out of 5): 2
Repurchase?: No
Thoughts: I just received this from ipsy a couple of months ago and was disappointed when I finally used it. It felt dry and was hard to apply. I wasn’t a fan so it’s time to let this one go.

Lip Balm Empties

I seem to use lip balm a lot. Like A LOT. Enough that I have a ton of empties!

Product: Softlips Luxe in Silky Shea and Creamy Coconut (full size, 3.7g)
Rating (out of 5): 5
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: I received both of these lip balms from Chickadvisor last year and I loved them both! They are so so good. They really keep my lips hydrated and they smell so good.

Product: Softlips Cube in Fresh Mint (full size, 6.5 g)
Rating (out of 5): 5
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: Also from Chickadvisor, this was the first Softlips lip balm I finished from the four that I received. I am a big mint lip balm fan and this one had a sweet side that I really liked!

Product: Lasting Smiles Organic Lip Balm in Peppermint Creme (full size, 4.25 g)
Rating (out of 5): 5
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: I received this in a swap and fell in love with it! Sadly, I have no idea where to get another one! (If anyone knows, please let me know! Preferably in Canada.) It’s not too minty as the cream really balances it out. I was so sad when I ran out! I would love to get another one of these again.

Lip Balm Throwaways

Product: Softlips Cube in Berry Bliss (full size, 6.5 g)
Rating (out of 5): 3
Repurchase?: No
Thoughts: The fourth from my Chickadvisor. I’m giving it a 3 because I love the formulation but I am no longer a berry lip balm girl so I wasn’t a big fan of the scent and flavour… which is funny to me because I used to love berry lip balms when I was a kid! Tastes really do change as you get older!

Skincare Empties

Product: Amie Radiant Dawn Exfoliating Daily Wash (full size, 150 ml)
Rating (out of 5): 5
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: I received this from Amie to review a long time ago and it’s lasted me quite awhile! I kept it in the shower and used it whenever I felt like exfoliating. Plus it smelled great for the mornings. Loved this so much! I would definitely repurchase this again next time I’m looking for a daily exfoliator. You can read my review on this product  here. 🙂

Product: Shiseido Ibuki Gentle Cleanser (deluxe size, 30 ml)
Rating (out of 5): 3
Repurchase?: Maybe
Thoughts: This was a nice cleanser and it was definitely gentle. But nothing really stood out for me. It was a pretty average face cleanser.

january empties

Product: Skin Laundry Restoring Night Serum (full size, 30 ml)
Rating (out of 5): 5
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: I got this from a FabFitFun box last year and I love it! It’s a great serum to use in your night time routine. Loved the smell and it made my skin feel great. I would definitely get this one again!

Product: Clinique Pep-Start Eye Cream (deluxe size, 3 ml)
Rating (out of 5): 4
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: This was okay. I didn’t really notice a huge difference with my undereye when I started using it other than it did depuff it a bit in the morning. It seemed temporary, though. Still, I didn’t mind this eye cream. I’d use it again.

Product: pur~lisse Blue Lotuse 4-in-1 Eye Adore Serum (deluxe size, 7 ml)
Rating (out of 5): 4
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: Same as the Clinique Pep-Start above, this eye serum was okay but not amazing. I would still use it again… which I will have to anyways since I still have a couple of these kicking around! I won’t get rid of them, though…. I will use them.

Product: Ole Henriksen Truth Facial Water (full size, 118 ml)
Rating (out of 5): 5
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: This is the second bottle I’ve used up. I love it that much! It did disappear for a time so I was glad to see it back on the store shelves eventually. This is a really nice toner. I like to put it on a cotton pad and apply it to my face in the mornings. I find it super refreshing and hydrating. I’d use it again!

january empties

Body Care Empties

Product: Le Petit Marseillais Extra Gentle Shower Creme in Orange Blossom (full size, 400 m4)
Rating (out of 5): 5
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: I received this from Chickadvisor Premium last year and found that it’s a pretty good cleanser! I wasn’t quite sure about the scent at first but it grew on me. It was a nice fresh scent first thing in the morning! I’m definitely open to getting this again but maybe in a different scent.

Product: Jergens Moisturizer for Wet Skin in Coconut (deluxe size, 60 ml)
Rating (out of 5): 5
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: This lotion is so great! You use it right after you shower but before you dry your skin. The coconut scent is not too strong but smells great! And my skin definitely feels moisturized after using this. Loved it so much! I already have this full sized in the green tea scent (that’s what I tried first and loved) but I would like to get the coconut one next time.

Body Care Throwaways

Product: The Body Shop Coconut Body Butter (full size, 200 ml)
Rating (out of 5): 5
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: This is a great body butter! The only reason I’m throwing it away now is that it’s older and it doesn’t quite smell right anymore. I would get this again, though!

Hair Care Empties

A couple of empties and I finally got through some foils, too!

Product: tresemme Moisture Rich Shampoo and Conditioner (deluxe size, 85 ml)
Rating (out of 5): 3
Repurchase?: Maybe
Thoughts: I bought these for my trip to Dallas and Las Vegas back in November. It’s not bad but it’s also not super impressive either. It’s good as a quick travel size buy but I’m not sure if I’d use it as my regular shampoo and conditioner.

Product: Garnier Fructis Damage Eraser Shampoo and Conditioner  (foil sample, 10 ml)
Rating (out of 5): 5
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: I really like this shampoo and conditioner… I had a full sized version of these two at some point in time! I love the smell and it made my hair so soft. I’d get this in full size again one day.

Product: Garnier Fructis Grow Strong Shampoo and Conditioner (foil sample, 10 ml)
Rating (out of 5): 5
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: I dunno. I am just a big fan of these Garnier Fructis hair care products! I liked this one, as well!

Product: Garnier Whole Blends Moroccan Argan and Cammelia Oil Shampoo and Conditioner (foil sample,  10 ml)
Rating (out of 5): 3
Repurchase?: Maybe
Thoughts: I wasn’t sure if I really liked this one and the foil samples weren’t enough for me to make that decision so I’m just gonna give this one a middle of the road review for now.

That’s All Folks!

For January (and December) anyways. I still have some empties in the box where I keep this glorified garbage so check back early next month for my February empties! <3

How did you do with empties in January? 🙂

Unboxing + Review: Miss Blanco Joyful Box November 2016 – Acceptance

miss blanco joyful box november 2016

Greetings everyone! The holidays are slowly creeping up on us so we finally put up our tree and decorated this past weekend! We were a little late with the decorations this year because we were in Hawaii.  Plus, it was a good time to do so due to the deep freeze we are dealing with here in Alberta where our windchill temperatures were dipping very close to -40 Celsius. Brr! This also gave me a bit of time to snap some pics and write about this beauty of a beauty box! So let’s get started.

Miss Blanco Joyful Box is a lifestyle box sent straight to you each month containing two to three deluxe or full sized beauty times, one hand-curated item and a lifestyle item. A “Box Full of Joy” so to say! It is priced at $38.00 CAD (or $28 USD) monthly.

Miss Blanco Joyful Box is a little different than other beauty box subs out there in that it offers a VIP member option. This is just an option – you are not required to opt into this – but for $30.00 CAD per year, you can opt into this program. Please note that you must already be a subscriber and that the cost is on top of your monthly subscription cost. BUT you get a full year of extra perks and surprises for $2.50 CAD per month.  If you do decide to join, please put my name in the field where it asks who referred you – Olivia from starpixel. I would very much appreciate it! 🙂

The Miss Blanco Joyful Box for November was called Acceptance. November’s box made me feel absolutely spoiled! I received a lifestyle item, a hand-curated item, three body products, two beauty items AND two surprise items bringing me to a total of nine(!!!) products in my box! I get that this does not occur every month but either way, I was ecstatic to see this! Just to clarify, I am a VIP member because I joined in the first month where you could become VIP free for life but this will give you a taste of what kind of surprises you can expect. 😉

Now that you know a little about the subscription and a brief summary of what I will be covering here, let’s take a closer look at each item I received. There’s quite a bit here so grab a cup of coffee or hot cup of tea with me and let’s go!

Let’s take a look at the lifestyle item first. This month’s lifestyle item is a Plaid Fashion Scarf ($32.99 CAD). Plaid and scarves are very much “in” this season so this is really the bet of both worlds! Unlike the more common blanket scarves out there, this is a lighter scarf so you can wear it well into spring, cooler mornings in summer and into the fall. You can totally pull off wearing this during any one of the four seasons! The colours in this scarf also makes it easy to wear with what you probably have in your closet. This makes it very versitile and I can already see myself wearing this a lot! I do love scarves, after all. 🙂 Here’s a pic I posted on Instagram wearing it.

After a long day, I’m so tired! So excuse the look of tiredness. Taking pics for my @mbjoyfulbox November unboxing blog post and decided I had time to squeeze in a selfie with this fab scarf! It is so so so SOFT! I’m in love! ? The Joyful Box was so great last month! Oh and that’s my new moonstone and rose gold ring from @soprettycaracotter that I’m now { obsessed } with ?? Wearing the Cami Lippie Stix from @colourpopcosmetics too (you can’t see it but my shirt says “Lipstick Addict” ?) #unboxing #style #scarf #fashion #comfy #soft #plaid #lifestyle #beauty #blogger #beautyblogger #camadianblogger #yegblogger #beautyblogger #lifestyleblogger #loveit #whatsnew #jewelry #sopretty #ring #colourpop #lipsticklover #lipstick

Next up is a handmade Artisan Necklace ($20.99 CAD). This necklace is so adorable! It features a heart pendant on a black cord. Like the scarf, you can pretty much wear this with anything. This is a great piece for any day and any occasion.

miss blanco joyful box november 2016

Let’s discuss body products now. The first one is the Barefoot Venus Lilly Pilly Bath Treat ($5.50 CAD). Like the Lilly Pilly hand cream I received in my October box, it smells great! It contains epsom salt, mango butter, palm kernel oil and sweet almond oil and is created without any harsh mineral oils, parabens, propylene glycol and synthetic colours. I can definitely see myself settling into a nice bath with this treat. I can see this be very soothing and relaxing.

Speaking of soothing and relaxing, I also received the Barefoot Venus Lilly Pilly Argan Dry Body Oil ($2.50 CAD) in a travel size and it smells just as heavenly as the Bath Treat! I haven’t tried a body oil until now and this one is very nice. I found that it absorbs quickly into your skin and doesn’t leave a residue. I will definitely continue to use this on my dry skin. It’s wintery and cold now so this came at the right time!

I really like the Barefoot Venus products I have tried so far so these two were great to see in my Joyful box. 🙂

miss blanco joyful box november 2016

The final body product I received was the Cherish All Natural Products Body Oil in Bubble Gum ($10.00 CAD). I will be honest, I was very uncertain about this when I first saw the spoiler. Bubble Gum Body Oil? Really?

Yes, really! I did give it a try (because you should really try new things at least once!) and was pleasantly surprised! I thought it was going to be super sweet but it really isn’t. It’s still sweet but not crazy sweet. I am actually loving the scent – who knew? This was a great new discovery and I have the Joyful Box to thank for this! I also love how this product is natural. Similar to the Argan Dry Body Oil, I will be using this for sure… our winters here in Alberta are so dry. I did need this!

miss blanco joyful box november 2016

The body oil wasn’t the only item I received from this brand… I also got the Cherish All Natural Products Lip Balm in Cherish Cherry ($6.00 CAD). If you don’t already know, I am a self-proclaimed lip balm junkie! So I am always happy to see a new lip balm in these subscription boxes. 🙂 I haven’t opened this yet because I have too many lip balms as it is. But again, it’s made of natural ingredients so I have high hopes for it! I will use it one day soon! (Maybe sooner than later.. the Nivea lip balm I received from ChickAdvisor is just about done! I did use that one faster than usual… I did love it, though.)

Did the lipstick count as a makeup item? You decide. I did receive a real makeup item and it is the Sweet Leilani Eyeshadow in the shade Mai Tai ($14.99 CAD). This is one of Sweet Leilani’s Seaside Mineral Jewels Eyshadow. The shad Orchid is a grey-silver… I don’t have a colour similar to this in my collection so receiving this was nice. It is velvety smooth in consistency and very pigmented! I probably won’t use this too much as an all over shade but I will use it in the inner corners of my eyes. It’s vegan, and paraben and gluten free so if you are looking for those types of products, this may be something you would like to look into. It’s also fragrance free if you are sensitive to fragrances.

miss blanco joyful box november 2016

I will wrap this up with this random thought: so far the three body and beauty brands we’ve looked at are all Canadian. That is great! I always love supporting local or Canadian brands!

But we’re not done yet! Sure, we are done discovering what was in the box itself but I did also receive two bonus surprises in my box!

The first surprise is the elf Long-wear Lipliner Pencil in the shade Bitter ($1.00 USD). I haven’t used many elf products before so I’m looking forward to trying it! From the swatch shown on the elf site, Bitter is a berry shade. This also comes with a sharpener so that’s always a plus! While this was a great bonus surprise, I was way more excited about the other product.

The second surprise I received was the Lancome Bienfait Multi-Vital Moisturizer ($18.30 CAD, 15 ml) and since this is one of my favorite moisturizers, I was VERY happy to see this deluxe sample size! I’ve used this in the past and I loved it! it’s super moisturizing and worked so great with my skin.

miss blanco joyful box november 2016

Overall, the value of this box is $93.00 CAD according to the product card for the official box contents and then an additional $20.00 CAD in surprise items which is not too shabby! It contained way more products that other monthly subscription boxes (though, I do realize that this won’t happen every single month) so that was a huge plus! This was a really great box – awesome scarf, cute necklace and brands that are brand new to me.  Can’t go wrong with that!

Enjoy your weekend everyone!

Unboxing + Review: FabFitFun Fall 2016

fabfitfun fall 2016

It has been a year since I last subbed to Fab Fit Fun. I hadn’t seen much in the spoilers that I was really that interested in… until now!

The spoilers for the Fab Fit Fun box for Fall 2016 were just so hard to say no to! One spoiler after another, as they were released, were making it harder and harder to not resubscribe. There are so many items that I just love in the fall box! It is so jam packed with amazing things! Plus, the box is so adorable and depicts the colouring craze perfectly!

Fab Fit Fun is a seasonal lifestyle subscription box based in the US. You will receive four boxes a year. The box costs $49.99 USD and it is an additional $8 USD to ship to Canada. It is a pricier subscription but it is seasonal and you only get four of them per year and each box has a value that is well over $200.00 USD so if you see that the spoilers are items you would like, it’s totally worth it! If you would like to try this subscription out, I would very much appreciate it if you use my referral link here.

I couldn’t wait to get this box! There’s a lot to cover so let’s get started. 🙂

fabfitfun fall 2016

Unless you have been living under a rock, you have probably noticed there’s a big adult colouring craze is happening now! Adult colouring books are everywhere! I’ve seen a ton of them at Chapters and at Costco. Heck, I own a couple of them myself. The first two items I received in my Fall box goes along with this trend. I received a  FabFitFun Colouring Book and a set of six coloured pencils ($14.00 USD). I received the Things Colouring Book (the other one that was available was Nature) and it’s a book full of random things and objects. I love colouring books! I loved colouring as a child and I love it now. They really are a type of therapy and does reduce stress and anxiety. When I’m colouring, I’m feeling very zen! The problem I seem to stumble  upon, though, is finding time to colour. Gotta make some time for it, I guess. 🙂 Oh, and don’t forget to use those pencil crayons to colour the Fall box, too!

fab fit fun fall 2016

fabfitfun fall 2016

Next up is one of the real stars of this box – this ModCloth Loch and Key Scarf ($34.99 USD) is amazing! Blanket scarves are in this season so Fab Fit Fun got it right by including one in their Fall box. The one I received is in the black and white colourway. Quite honestly, I would have been happy with any one of the four colourways! The ModCloth blanket scarf is super soft, light and comfy! There are a number of ways you can wear it, too. You can use it as a scarf, you can make it into a poncho. I know I will be wearing mine through the fall and well into winter, I’m sure. I’ll be using it as a scarf and a blanket. Plus, it will be great to take on the plane in case you get chilly. Multipurpose items are always a great thing – so practical!

fabfitfun fall 2016

The good stuff just keeps on coming! How adorable is this To-Go Coffee Mug from The Created Co ($19.00 USD)? I love it! I received the “Good Morning Gorgeous” one and it is perfect! You can use it with coffee or water even. Such a fun travel mug with an amazing, empowering message on it! The gold text on black mug looks sleek and gorgeous. If this doesn’t brighten up your morning, I don’t know what will!

fabfitfun 2016

The next item I received is something that smells wonderful. Well, to me it does because I love lavender scents. I just find it so soothing! The Mullein & Sparrow Mini French Lavender Body Oil ($18.00 USD) is a great addition to this box. Not only does it have moisturizing properties when used on your skin, the scent just makes me feel zen. I need to check out the lasting power of this body oil… if I can put it on in the morning and have it help me feel a bit more zen through the busier, more stressful days at work, that would be great! 😉

fabfitfun fall 2016

Now, how did FabFitFun know that I needed a new brow gel? The BrowGal Clear, Water-Resistant Eyebrow Gel ($20.00 USD) came at the perfect time! I am just about out of the clear brow gel that I have now. I like using brow gels just to keep my brows staying put. Sometimes brows get a bit crazy too! I have not heard of this brand before so I’m looking forward to trying it.

fabfitfun fall 2016

This next product intrigues me. The Spongelle Bulgarian Rose Body Wash Infused Buffer ($16.00 USD) is something I’ve never seen before. It’s a hypoallergenic sponge that has a time released lather… that’s new to me! Very innovative, if that is the case. It does have a very strong scent, though, and I’ve always been iffy about rose scents, so I’m not sure if I will use this or pass it on to a friend.

fabfitfun fall 2016

The Pure Cosmetics Nude Collection Eyeshadow Palette ($50.00 USD) looks pretty familar to me… it looks like a dupe for my Urban Decay Naked 2 palette! The colours look very similar and all the shades are very wearable, from day to night. I haven’t swatched this because I’m not sure if I’m keeping it yet due to owning Naked 2. But one thing I can see is that this may be more “natural” than my UD palette so that’s a nice option for those who prefer natural products. Either way, this is a big value item in a sub box. Can’t go wrong with that, really… and if you don’t own the Naked 2 palette, then this looks like a great dupe!

fabfitfun fall 2016

fabfitfun fall 2016

This next one will surely come in handy next time I decide to do some yoga. Toesox Toeless Fitness Socks ($18.00 USD)! I can tell you right now that the grips on the bottom of these socks are great! No slip! At all! It takes a bit of getting used to putting it on and then having your toes not be covered like your typical sock. But hey, these socks serve a purpose and the pink colour is so fun!

fabfitfun fall 2016

One more product to go! The Skin Laundry Restoring Night Serum ($50.00 USD) is to be used at night, before you go to bed. It contains powerful antioxidants, vitamins, natural extracts and amino acid. This helps skin texture, firmness and elasticity while you get some rest. I have been using it for a few days so far and I really like it! It’s very light, not sticky at all and feels nice on my skin.

fabfitfun fall 2016

The next two products are the bonuses… and even though they’re bonuses, they are super useful items!

The first one is Cottonelle Fresh Care Flushable Cleansing Cloths (Sponsored Item). I’ll admit it – these are practical! And how adorable is that packaging! We do already use this product and really like it so this was a nice bonus.

fabfitfun fall 2016

fabfitfun fall 2016

And last but not least, I received a deluxe sample of Secret Outlast Xtend Clear Gel (Sponsored Item). Quite glad I received this because I adore Secret Clear Gels! They are my fave antiperspirant/deodorant product ever. EVER. So this will get used for sure!

fabfitfun fall 2016

Overall, my Fall 2016 FabFitFun box was a hit! I am very happy with it! My fave item has got to be the blanket scarf, though! Out of the 11 products I received – nine of which were the actual box contents plus two sponsored items – I will be using pretty much everything except maybe the Spongelle sponge and Pure Cosmetics palette. And really, the only reason why I may not use the palette is because I already own and use something similar. Such amazing value at $239.99 USD! And don’t forget to check out the Exclusive Offers card for discounts from seven of the brands featured in the Fall box. 🙂

Again, if you’d like to try this subscription out, i would really appreciate if you used my referral link.

What did you think of the Fall 2016 FabFitFun box? What was your fave item?

Unboxing: Topbox February 2016 and $10 Beauty Surprise

Oh, Topbox.

I get that this is at least a month behind. It’s sad to say but it’s been very difficult to get the motivation to do Topbox unboxings lately.

I have had a love-hate relationship with Topbox for the last year or so… this pains me because this used to be my favourite sub box! Lately there have been some months where I just adore everything I received! But then other months are just very disappointing. Lately there have been more disappointing ones than not so I used February’s box to finally make a decision about whether to keep subscribing or finally cancel.

Let’s quickly get to it. Here is what was in my Topbox. I received a regular box because, again, there weren’t any Prive ones to tempt me.

Unboxing: ipsy January 2016 All Eyes On You

It is just about the end of January! Can you believe it? I honestly feel like the first month of 2016 flew by so quickly!

To kick off my unboxing posts this year, let’s start with ipsy. Having been a subscriber for as long as I can remember, December 2012 to be exact, ipsy is still one of my favourite beauty subscriptions. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had my ups and downs with this sub. For the most part, though, I have really enjoyed the bags I have received. The only downside right now is the Canadian dollar!
