January Empties – Products I Have Used Up and Throwaways – 2018

january empties

It has been a long time since my last empties post! I had a huge backlog of empty products that I just got rid of back in November… it got to be too much to document! It was overwhelming! So I’m starting over. Here are my empties from December 2017 and January. 🙂 There are quite a few of them so it’s been a good two months!

Included in this post are empties and throwaways. Empties are the ones I have used up whereas throwaways are just products that I really didn’t like or were expired.

Makeup Empties

Product: Smashbox Photo Finish More Than Primer Blemish Control (deluxe size, 7 ml)
Rating (out of 5): 4
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: This was surprisingly a very good primer. I did notice a reduction in my hormonal breakouts while I was using it but I wasn’t using it long enough to determine if it’s because of the salicylic acid in this product or something else. At the end of the day, it did a good job keeping my makeup in place so I would repurchase this… except, I don’t know if this was discontinued because it’s no longer on the Smashbox or Sephora sites.

Product: Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer (deluxe, 7 ml)
Rating (out of 5): 4
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: I remember years and years ago when this was the very first face primer I have ever used. By using this sample, I remember just how much I like it. It feels light on my skin and keeps my makeup set in place. I really don’t have complaints about this product. It’s an oldie but a goodie! 🙂

Product: Wet n Wild proline Felt Tip Eyeliner (full size, 0.5 g)
Rating (out of 5): 2
Repurchase?: No
Thoughts: Not the best liquid eyeliner I have used… the pen dried up rather quickly. It was easy to apply my eyeliner until it started to dry up. It was okay and the price was really good but I’m not sure I would buy this again. I think I will stick to my tried and true Kat Von D liquid eyeliner.

Makeup Throw Aways

Product: Too Faced Sketch Marker in Black (full size, 0.45 g)
Rating (out of 5): 3
Repurchase?: Maybe
Thoughts: This is pretty old and I haven’t used it in a long time. If I am going to be honest, I don’t remember if it was good and it’s too old for me to use now to make that determination.

Product: theBalm Mr. Write (Now) in Jac (full size, 0.28 g)
Rating (out of 5): 2
Repurchase?: No
Thoughts: This eyeliner is all dried up. I haven’t used it in a long time and I don’t think I liked it that much. This one was a pass for me.

Product: trestique Mini Brow Pencil in Espresso (deluxe size, 0.13 g)
Rating (out of 5): 2
Repurchase?: No
Thoughts: I just received this from ipsy a couple of months ago and was disappointed when I finally used it. It felt dry and was hard to apply. I wasn’t a fan so it’s time to let this one go.

Lip Balm Empties

I seem to use lip balm a lot. Like A LOT. Enough that I have a ton of empties!

Product: Softlips Luxe in Silky Shea and Creamy Coconut (full size, 3.7g)
Rating (out of 5): 5
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: I received both of these lip balms from Chickadvisor last year and I loved them both! They are so so good. They really keep my lips hydrated and they smell so good.

Product: Softlips Cube in Fresh Mint (full size, 6.5 g)
Rating (out of 5): 5
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: Also from Chickadvisor, this was the first Softlips lip balm I finished from the four that I received. I am a big mint lip balm fan and this one had a sweet side that I really liked!

Product: Lasting Smiles Organic Lip Balm in Peppermint Creme (full size, 4.25 g)
Rating (out of 5): 5
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: I received this in a swap and fell in love with it! Sadly, I have no idea where to get another one! (If anyone knows, please let me know! Preferably in Canada.) It’s not too minty as the cream really balances it out. I was so sad when I ran out! I would love to get another one of these again.

Lip Balm Throwaways

Product: Softlips Cube in Berry Bliss (full size, 6.5 g)
Rating (out of 5): 3
Repurchase?: No
Thoughts: The fourth from my Chickadvisor. I’m giving it a 3 because I love the formulation but I am no longer a berry lip balm girl so I wasn’t a big fan of the scent and flavour… which is funny to me because I used to love berry lip balms when I was a kid! Tastes really do change as you get older!

Skincare Empties

Product: Amie Radiant Dawn Exfoliating Daily Wash (full size, 150 ml)
Rating (out of 5): 5
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: I received this from Amie to review a long time ago and it’s lasted me quite awhile! I kept it in the shower and used it whenever I felt like exfoliating. Plus it smelled great for the mornings. Loved this so much! I would definitely repurchase this again next time I’m looking for a daily exfoliator. You can read my review on this product  here. 🙂

Product: Shiseido Ibuki Gentle Cleanser (deluxe size, 30 ml)
Rating (out of 5): 3
Repurchase?: Maybe
Thoughts: This was a nice cleanser and it was definitely gentle. But nothing really stood out for me. It was a pretty average face cleanser.

january empties

Product: Skin Laundry Restoring Night Serum (full size, 30 ml)
Rating (out of 5): 5
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: I got this from a FabFitFun box last year and I love it! It’s a great serum to use in your night time routine. Loved the smell and it made my skin feel great. I would definitely get this one again!

Product: Clinique Pep-Start Eye Cream (deluxe size, 3 ml)
Rating (out of 5): 4
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: This was okay. I didn’t really notice a huge difference with my undereye when I started using it other than it did depuff it a bit in the morning. It seemed temporary, though. Still, I didn’t mind this eye cream. I’d use it again.

Product: pur~lisse Blue Lotuse 4-in-1 Eye Adore Serum (deluxe size, 7 ml)
Rating (out of 5): 4
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: Same as the Clinique Pep-Start above, this eye serum was okay but not amazing. I would still use it again… which I will have to anyways since I still have a couple of these kicking around! I won’t get rid of them, though…. I will use them.

Product: Ole Henriksen Truth Facial Water (full size, 118 ml)
Rating (out of 5): 5
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: This is the second bottle I’ve used up. I love it that much! It did disappear for a time so I was glad to see it back on the store shelves eventually. This is a really nice toner. I like to put it on a cotton pad and apply it to my face in the mornings. I find it super refreshing and hydrating. I’d use it again!

january empties

Body Care Empties

Product: Le Petit Marseillais Extra Gentle Shower Creme in Orange Blossom (full size, 400 m4)
Rating (out of 5): 5
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: I received this from Chickadvisor Premium last year and found that it’s a pretty good cleanser! I wasn’t quite sure about the scent at first but it grew on me. It was a nice fresh scent first thing in the morning! I’m definitely open to getting this again but maybe in a different scent.

Product: Jergens Moisturizer for Wet Skin in Coconut (deluxe size, 60 ml)
Rating (out of 5): 5
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: This lotion is so great! You use it right after you shower but before you dry your skin. The coconut scent is not too strong but smells great! And my skin definitely feels moisturized after using this. Loved it so much! I already have this full sized in the green tea scent (that’s what I tried first and loved) but I would like to get the coconut one next time.

Body Care Throwaways

Product: The Body Shop Coconut Body Butter (full size, 200 ml)
Rating (out of 5): 5
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: This is a great body butter! The only reason I’m throwing it away now is that it’s older and it doesn’t quite smell right anymore. I would get this again, though!

Hair Care Empties

A couple of empties and I finally got through some foils, too!

Product: tresemme Moisture Rich Shampoo and Conditioner (deluxe size, 85 ml)
Rating (out of 5): 3
Repurchase?: Maybe
Thoughts: I bought these for my trip to Dallas and Las Vegas back in November. It’s not bad but it’s also not super impressive either. It’s good as a quick travel size buy but I’m not sure if I’d use it as my regular shampoo and conditioner.

Product: Garnier Fructis Damage Eraser Shampoo and Conditioner  (foil sample, 10 ml)
Rating (out of 5): 5
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: I really like this shampoo and conditioner… I had a full sized version of these two at some point in time! I love the smell and it made my hair so soft. I’d get this in full size again one day.

Product: Garnier Fructis Grow Strong Shampoo and Conditioner (foil sample, 10 ml)
Rating (out of 5): 5
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: I dunno. I am just a big fan of these Garnier Fructis hair care products! I liked this one, as well!

Product: Garnier Whole Blends Moroccan Argan and Cammelia Oil Shampoo and Conditioner (foil sample,  10 ml)
Rating (out of 5): 3
Repurchase?: Maybe
Thoughts: I wasn’t sure if I really liked this one and the foil samples weren’t enough for me to make that decision so I’m just gonna give this one a middle of the road review for now.

That’s All Folks!

For January (and December) anyways. I still have some empties in the box where I keep this glorified garbage so check back early next month for my February empties! <3

How did you do with empties in January? 🙂

ipsy December 2017 Snow Globe – Unboxing + Review

ipsy december 2017

Happy Holidays everyone! I hope you’re all having a great holidays wiht family and friends and that you found some awesome deals for Boxing Day!

I know I’m enjoying my holidays and relaxing as much as possible! Though, there are times when things have been super hectic! ’tis the season, I guess! Seeing as I also have the week off from work, I’m going to do my best to catch up on my blogging.

Today we are going to take a look at my December ipsy glam bag.

ipsy december 2017

For those of you who are unfamiliar with ipsy, it is a monthly beauty subscription from the US. This subscription is $10.00 USD  a month in the US and $10.00 USD + $4.00 USD shipping for Canadians. You get a mix of skincare, makeup and haircare deluxe and full sized products. And you get a different style of bag each month. If you are interested in trying this subscription, please use my link here.

December’s theme is Snow Globe. The bag itself is gorgeous! It is sleek and silver and goes well with the Snow Globe theme, don’t you think? It’s reminiscent of frosty days and twinkling nights. Much like how it is in Edmonton right now. As the temperatures plunged, it sure got frosty!

ipsy december 2017

Now let’s take a look at the bag’s contents.

First up is the Always On Gel Liner in the shade Fishnet from Smashbox Cosmetics ($16.50 CAD, 0.03 oz). This is a great size as it’s not far off from the 0.04 oz full sized product. It glides on smoothly and doesn’t tug. it’s also very long lasting. I love my liquid liner but this is a great gel liner. I quite like this product!

ipsy december 2017 smashbox

I also received the Cosmoholic Liquid Lipstick in the shade Mysterious Mocha ($15.27 USD, 5.5 ml). Gotta admit, this was a pleasant surprise! I was skeptical before I got it because I don’t typically like brown shades but this was more of a red-brown which looks great on! It looks nude and natural on me. And it smells like chocolate! While this doesn’t have a built-in LED light on it like its full sized counterpart, it does have a mirror which is a nice touch.

ipsy december 2017 cosmoholic

Goodness, this next one smells delicious! Even moreso than the chocolate liquid lipstick above. 😉 The Seraphine Botanicals Lip Polish in Orange + Cream ($18.00 USD, 10 g, full sized) is just great all around. It is a gentle lip exfoliant that is sugar-based and infused with mango butter for hydration. Gotta admit, this was my fave product that I received this month!

ipsy december 2017 seraphine botanicals

Another brush! And I’m not saying that in a bad way. As you know, I am a big fan of Luxie brushes. The Luxie Beauty Precision Shader Onyx Brush 239 ($20.31 USD, full sized) is my first brush from their Onyx Noir collection. I haven’t tried it yet, though. I’m expecting it to be great like my other Luxie brushes, though!

ipsy december 2017 luxie beauty

ipsy december 2017 luxie beauty

The final item in my December bag is the trestique Mini Brow Pencil in the shade Espresso (Price Unknown, 0.005 oz). Espresso is a dark brown shade that’s perfect for me. It has an angled tip and it’s small but it’s easy to use. I do wish it had a brow brush, though! Then it would have it all!

ipsy december 2017 trestique

So that’s it for December’s instalment. The total value of this bag, minus the trestique Brow Pencil because I couldn’t figure out how much it was worth, is $84.00 CAD. Not too shabby for a $20.00 CAD subscription! Plus, I will be using everything I received this month which makes it worth it.

What do you think of December’s ipsy glam bag?

Unboxing + Review: Boxycharm September 2017 Boxy Baddie

boxycharm september 2017

Hope you all had a great week! With Thanksgiving last weekend, it was a short work week and the weekend is around the corner again so I can’t complain! For my fellow Canadians, I hope you had a great Thanksgiving! I know I enjoyed mine! Family, friends, food, relaxation… what more could I have asked for?  🙂

boxycharm september 2017

Anyways, back to blogging. 🙂 Let’s talk about September’s Boxycharm! The theme was Boxy Baddie. For those of you who are not familiar with Boxycharm, the details are as follows.

Boxycharm is an American subscription box that ships to Canada. It is $21.00 USD per month or you can get a small discount for a 3-month, 6-month or annual subscription. You can cancel at anytime which is nice. Each month you will receive four to five full-sized beauty items. If you would like to try this sub, I would appreciate it if you would use my link here. 🙂

So let’s get started with this unboxing! I was really excited about this first product – the PUR Soiree Diaries Eyeshadow Palette ($34.00 USD) is beautiful!

From Top to Bottom: Private Party, Socialite, Gala, Mogul

From Top to Bottom: Splurge, Stunner, Snazzy, Epic

boxycharm september 2017 pur soiree diaries

From Top to Bottom: Glitzy, Twinkle, Dazzle, Cosmo

This palette contains eight neutral mattes and four glitter shades. You can create four looks using the trio of colours vertically… but of course, you aren’t limited to just those. After using this for about a week now, I find that the shades are very pigmented and they blend out very easily. It’s a pretty slim palette that isn’t heavy so it’s compact enough for travel.

boxycharm september 2017 mac cosmetics eye brow pencil in spiked

boxycharm september 2017 mac cosmetics eye brow pencil in Spiked

Next, I received an Eyebrow Pencil in the shade Spiked from MAC Cosmetics ($18.00 USD). Gotta admit, until recently, I haven’t seen MAC products in beauty boxes so it’s nice to finally see them in the mix! The shade Spiked is a dark brown which is perfect for me since I like to use a shade lighter on my black brows. it makes it look more natural.  There is also no need to use a sharpener with this one so that’s a plus!

boxycharm september 2017 colourpop ultra satin littlestitious

boxycharm september 2017 colourpop ultra satin littlestitious

I also received a ColourPop Ultra Satin Lip in Littlestitious ($6.00 USD). I have a number of Ultra Satin’s and I really like the formulation. Unfortunately, this shade isn’t for me. It’s too light for my skin tone but I think it would look great on lighter skin tones. It is a great product so I will pass this on to someone who will be able to use it.

boxycharm september 2017 luminous loose blush studio makeup

Next up, we have the Luminous Loose Blush from Studio Makeup ($35.00 USD). This looks like a very neutral shade. I don’t own any powder blushes so I’m curious to see how this product is! My first impression was that I love this type of packaging. I have a Gosh setting powder in similar packaging and it’s great! Because you can essentially “close” and seal the holes where the product sifts through, it’s less messy which is great especially if you ever want to take it somewhere. There’s no need for you to open the jar only to have the possibility of powder flying everywhere and making a mess! This type of packaging is so great!

boxycharm september 2017 bareminerals face perfecting brush

boxycharm september 2017 bareminerals face perfecting brush

The bareMinerals Face Perfecting Brush ($28.00 USD) is unique in that there is a reservoir in the middle where you put your foundation in it before you application. I tried that method a few times and found that I ended up using too much foundation doing it that way. I also tried it where I would dot my face with foundation and blend it in. The brush works well both ways but I prefer the latter.

boxycharm september 2017 briogeo don't despair repair deep conditioning mask

Last, but not least, is the Don’t Despair Repair Deep Conditioning Mask from Briogeon ($20.00 USD). I have used a deluxe sample of this so I have tried it before. I really like it! It made my hair super soft and I like the scent. This is a great deep conditioner.

That is all for September! The total value of this box was $141.00 USD (which is $175.00 CAD based on today’s exchange rate) which makes it a high value box. I also really like how you get full-sized (or almost full-sized) items. It totally makes this box worth it! Love it!

Shop My Stash Recap: March 2017

shop my stash march 2017

Happy Easter! I hope you are enjoying your Easter weekend – I certainly know that I am because this is a much needed break for me!

Well, it is time for my next instalment of my Shop My Stash recap and this time we are taking a peek at my March basket of goodies.

For those of you who are new to this series, every month in 2017. I will be selecting (or ‘shopping’) different items from my makeup collection (aka the ‘Stash’) in an attempt to rediscover and use up what I already own. When your collection gets out of hand, you tend to forget what you already have.

If you want to read up more about this series, please see my introductory post. It contains a pretty thorough explanation as to what this is all about. ?  Also you can check out all my other Shop My Stash posts here.

I break down my recap posts into three parts: empties, keepers and rejects. Included is a quick write up about each product to express my thoughts about each one. I like to start off with success so lets look at the empties first! Grab a cup of tea or coffee. This is gonna be a long one – but a good one! I promise. 😉

The Empties

How happy was I to see all these empties in March? Very! I don’t know about you but I love discussing empties so, so much! I just find it so satisfying using things up – especially makeup! I always struggle to finish makeup. Hair, body and skin care products always seem so much easier to go through so I find it a real achievement to finish up makeup! Not much else to say other than, here’s my makeup trash. 😉 Rather than adding these to a future empties post, I’ll provide a short review of them now.

Face Primer: Too Faced Primed & Poreless Pure Oil-Free Skin Smoothing Face Primer
This product was carried over from January/February’s round because I have two of them. I love Too Faced’s Primed and Poreless Primer so I had high hopes for this one! To be honest, I did like it at first – which is why I decided to carry it over from the previous month – but as I kept using it, it just didn’t pan out for me. Such a shame since I do tend to have sensitive skin and I really liked how this was oil- free. My face actually did get oiler than usual when I used this primer which didn’t make much sense! So yes, I used up one and a half tubes of this stuff. And in a way, I could technically also put this under the Rejects because one of the deluxe samples is not empty but meh. Small technicalities. At the end of the day, no I will not be repurchasing this one.

Pore Reducer: Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser
I am pretty sure I have had this product FOREVER! Considering I only use this on my nose and a bit on my forehead and cheeks, this lasted me a long, long time. I could have stopped using it but I kept going because I didn’t mind it at all. It did a great job making my pores look smaller and it worked with my skin. It didn’t make it overly oily or greasy. So I used it up. It only took me a couple of years! Super easy to find anywhere you find Maybelline products and it’s also very affordable. I would repurchase this in the future but I have a whole bunch of Benefite POREfessional deluxe samples to go through, first!

Eye Primer: Too Faced Shadow Insurance Anti-Crease Eye Shadow Primer

Here is another product that seems to last me forever and a day! I am a huge fan of the Too Face eye shadow primer because it always keeps my eye makeup staying put. It’s not greasy when I put it on. AND it lasts a long time so it’s very cost effective. I am pretty sure I have used a full sized tube and a couple of deluxe sized samples already so the fact that I keep going back to it means I adore it. So yes, I would repurchase this one in a heart beat! Good thing I have a couple of deluxe samples of this one still kicking around. 🙂

Eyeliner: Ciate Fierce Flicks Liquid Eyeliner
I have been using this for a few months now. I believe I started using this back in October or November of last year? I would rotate between this one and my holy grail eyeliner. To be perfectly honest, I was pleasantly surprised with the Ciate liquid eyeliner! I didn’t expect to like it as much as I did. It is very easy to use and line my upper lash line. It was a dark black which was great. It’s more like a brush tip similar to the Stila liquid liner. Super happy with this! You can tell that I used it a lot because, well, the labelling on the pen has rubbed off completely. Whoops! Overall a fabulous liquid liner. I would definitely get another one of these in the future.

Mascara: Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes Deluxe Mascara
I really wanted to like this one because I heard many good things about it. I’m not sure if it’s just because I have had this tube for awhile now and it’s old but I found it to be way too clumpy for my liking! I couldn’t apply it on my lashes without it clumping on my lashes. I was not a fan. But I will give it the benefit of the doubt because so many people like it. I do have a new tube of this because I got one as a freebie from my last tarte order so I really need to give it another try. If I still don’t like it… well, at least I gave it another chance. But for now, I would not repurchase this one.

The Keepers

This is usually the largest section of my recaps post… which I am actually glad about because then I feel a little better. It means I didn’t completely waste all my money buying a bunch of duds! Sure, it doesn’t help my stash get smaller but that’s okay. These products are keepers that will stay in my stash because I know that I will continue to use them.

shop my stash march 2017

Color Correction: NYX Color Correcting Concealer Palette
My fave color correcting product EVER! Honestly, I am so happy with this palette. It has every colour you need whether you want to correct redness or undereye circles. It goes on easily with a small concealer brush. I don’t use color correctors often but this one is the one I reach for when I need more than just a concealer! Definitely a keeper!

Concealer: Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser for Dark Circles Treatment Concealer with Goji Berry
I have used one of these up before… this is my second one. Honestly one of my favourite concealers. Excellent coverage, easy to use packaging, blends really well… I can go on and on! I will continue to repurchase this one each time I finish one. I love it that much!

Foundation / BB Cream: Rimmel London BB Cream 9-in-1 Skin Perfecting Super Makeup in Medium
I will admit… I haven’t had this BB Cream for very long yet it has already had a good impression on me. It’s a bit thicker than other BB creams I have tried in the past but for me that’s just perfect because it provides better coverage for me while still feeling super light once it’s blended in. The shade Medium is also a great colour match for me. I will continue to use this one, for sure. Though, I think they have since changed what the packaging looks like since I purchased this one. I really hope the formulation is still the same!

Blush: Laura Geller Baked Blush N Brighten in Tropic Hues, Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hour Blush in Exposed
Both blushes are great. The Laura Geller blush in Tropic Hues is a great colour for me! It gives me a nice flush and it is buildable if you want more colour. The Tarte blush in Exposed is a lot more subtle but it’s great. I’m happy with both of these so they are both going back into my makeup drawer.

Setting Powder: elf Perfect Finish HD Powder
Love this! This is a great setting powder if you don’t want to splurge on similar ones like the one from Make Up For Ever. The only downside to this is it crumbles easy… if that makes sense. This was brand new when I started using it in the beginning of March and I have since hit pan because it crumbled easily. It’s a good thing it’s affordable! I don’t think this will last me as long as my MUFE one did… but I think it’s still worth using. I really like this.

shop my stash march 2017

Eye Primer: Elizabeth Mott Thank Me Later Eye Shadow Primer
This is a pretty good primer. It was easy to apply and it kept my eye makeup in place which is what you look for in an eye primer, essentially. While the tube is small, I find that you don’t need to put a lot on so this should still last me awhile. I will definitely continue to use this product.

Brow: Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil in Shade 4
Besides my Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz, this is my favourite brow pencil! This has a thicker tip than the Brow Wiz but it works so great. I find it very effortless to use and Shade 4 is an excellent match for my brows. It also acts as a was somewhat and keeps my brows in place. This is definitely a new holy grail item for me and I will not hesitate to repurchase this one again.

Brow Setting Gel: Milani Brow Shaping Clear Wax Pencil
This is probably the best brow setting pencil I have tried and I believe that it’s a great drugstore alternative to the ABH one. It does an excellent job of making my brows stay put without looking all waxy. For a couple of bucks, how could you go wrong? The downside to this is that my Superstore no longer has this and my Rexall doesn’t have Milani yet. I am hoping I find this locally again otherwise I will have to remember to get one next time I go to the US!

Mascara Primer: Wet n Wild PhotoFocus Lash Primer (not pictured because I forgot about it)
Still really liking this lash primer. It does make my lashes look thicker and does help with volume and length. I am going to continue using it and I already have a backup of this product in my stash! I love how this is so much more affordable than other higher end options.

Mascara: Benefit Roller Lash Deluxe Mascara
This is still one of my favourite mascaras of all time! It does make my lashes look great and works even better when it’s paired with the Wet n Wild primer. I will definitely continue to use Roller Lash!

shop my stash march 2017

Highlighter: Anastasia Beverly Hills Gleam Glow Kit, Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Spotlight in Opal
Both the ABH Glow Kit and Becca highlighters are keepers! I’m actually hesitant to use my ABH one all the time because I don’t know what I will do if I ever run out of one of the pans! They  provide just enough shimmer on my skin and they are both easily buildable because they are both very pigmented. They look natural on my skin and not over the top at all. I am a huge fan of these two highlighters – they definitely don’t disappoint!

shop my stash march 2017

Setting Spray: L’Oreal Infallable Pro-Spray Set Makeup Extender Setting Spray
Another pleasant surprise! I am usually pretty leery of setting sprays from the drugstore because it’s still a relatively new thing when it comes to drugstore brands. I have had this setting spray for awhile now and it is pretty up there in terms of my favourites. It has a nice mist which doesn’t drench your face (lol) and it really does a good job keeping my makeup looking great all day. This is my fave drugstore setting spray for sure and I will continue to use it.

shop my stash march 2017

Eye shadow (palette or singles): Too Faced Everything Nice Holiday Palette, Smashbox Full Exposure Palette
These are two palettes that I won’t be able to let go of. The Too Faced one has such great colours in it! I am in love with the shade Girly. Plus the Inner Light highlighter and Papa Don’t Peach blush is amazing. So great. Then the Smashbox palette is a great neutral palette whether you are looking for shimmers or mattes or both! This one has an excellent mix. Overall, I can’t let go of these two so they are both keepers!

The Rejects

These were the disappointments this month. Which is really sad because I have had both of these in my collection for awhile now and I thought they were working well or me. After using it more, I now know I’m really wrong! Well, at least about one of them. The other one? Irreconcilable differences, I’m afraid.

Foundation / BB Cream: Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Water Foundation in Medium Tan Sand
This… did not work out. At all. As little or as much as I put on, it was the same result. My face looked patchy and dry and you could definitely see that I was wearing a cakey foundation.  The shade Medium Tan Sand worked well with my skin tone but I just couldn’t get past it looking cakey. Even when I put on just a wee bit. So I am going to pass on this one. That pains me to say it because I love tarte as a brand so, so much!

Concealer: Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Aquacealer Concealer in Medium
Honestly, this concealer is amazing. The shade Medium works so well for me! It does an amazing job covering my blemishes and other spots that need concealer so I was really happy with it. What I wasn’t happy with was the scent of this product. It has a very heavy chemical smell and I just couldn’t get past that. How odd considering my Tarte Shape Tape doesn’t have a strong scent at all! Different formulations and ingredients, I guess. This one makes me sad. Great product, awful smell. 🙁 I did use over half of it before deciding to part ways with it, though, so it wasn’t a complete loss.

So disappointing. Please keep in mind that this was my own personal experience with these products and that others may have success with them and adore them!

And finis! That is a breakdown of my March basket. I hope you found some of these mini reviews handy! Also thanks for sticking with me to the end. I know these recaps tend to be long but I am hoping it’s worthwhile for both of us.

I am super happy with the  number of empties I ended up with but super sad about the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea items. I really, really wanted to love them. But I guess this is why I’m doing this, hey? To see what I like and what I don’t? Among using up my collection, of course.

Anyways, I hope you are all having a great start to the week! More blog posts in the coming days so please check back soon! 🙂

Shop My Stash: April 2017

shop my stash april 2017

I know, I know – I haven’t even finished my March recap yet but I really wanted to get my April basket up on the blog before the end of the month! 😉 My March recap is still in the works but should be up very, very soon!

What is a Shop My Stash?

It’s exactly what it sounds like. Every month, I will be going into my makeup collection and – you guessed it – I will shop my stash. ? Just think of it as a haul post but instead of makeup I bought at Sephora or at Shoppers Drug Mart, it’s a haul straight from my own collection! And I’m hoping that by doing this monthly, I won’t get bored of the products I chose like I did in last year’s Project Pan.

If you’re interested, you can find my other Shop My Stash posts here.

How Shop My Stash Works

Every month I will take one or two of these types of products and put them in a basket.

  • Face primer
  • Color correction
  • Concealer
  • Foundation / BB Cream
  • Blush
  • Highlighter
  • Bronzer
  • Setting powder
  • Pore reducer
  • Eye primer
  • Eye shadow (palette or singles)
  • Eyeliner
  • Brow
  • Brow setting gel
  • Mascara primer
  • Mascara
  • Setting Spray

If you haven’t noticed, I did not include any lip products (lipstick, lipgloss, etc.) to my list. This is because they are already in rotation in my purse. I change them around a lot so I didn’t think they needed special attention like the rest of these products!

At the end of each month I will have to make a few decisions: keep the product, continue using it (for those holy grail products I must always use) or get rid of it. I’m hoping that by doing this I can help identify my loves and get rid of what I don’t want anymore. I hope that I can get my collection under control.

Don’t get me wrong, though. I am not going to be limited to only using what’s in my basket. If there’s something I want to use then by all means, I will! The basket is just there to help give me something to focus on that month.

Then at the end of the month, I will summarize my monthly basket (what I loved, what I didn’t love, etc.) and then I will pick out a new basket of products!

Shop My Stash for April 2017

My version of Project Pan. I am so glad that I didn’t put too much in my March basket and as you will see when I post my recap, it worked really well! I was able to focus on certain products and really get a feel for them so I am going to stick to a focused basket for April, as well.

Similar to last month, I will have some products from last month which I will have carried over into April. Mostly in the mascara department because I’d rather use them up before I open up a new one!

Let’s take a peek at my basket for April. My makeup basket, I mean. Not to be mistaken for the Easter bunny’s basket. 😉

  • Eye shadow (palette or singles): Too Faced Natural Eyes Neutral Eye Shadow Collection, tarte Tartelette tease palette – both of these are my oldies but goodies!  Needing some love this month. 🙂

There’s my mix for April. Probably the smallest basket yet but full of goodies I love or things I feel like I need to just finish already. I’m still enjoying my Shop My Stash journey this year! It doesn’t get boring when I make a monthly basket. 🙂

Just a random question to my readers – are you enjoying these types of posts? Let me know what other types of posts you want to see on the blog!

I should have my March recap up by the end of the week so please be sure to check back!

Enjoy your week everyone. 🙂
