Unboxing + Review: ipsy August 2017 Good Vibes Only

ipsy august 2017

I can’t believe it’s already September! The mornings are starting to feel cooler but I refuse to admit that summer is almost over. Even though Pumpkin Spice Lattes have made a comeback… and I love PSL’s! Anyways, let’s stick to summer…. and ipsy’s August glam bag screams summer!

August’s bag comes in three variations – one that says Peace, Love, Lipstick, another says Wild & Free and a third one says Good Vibes Only . Looking at it is totally helping me keep that summer vibe. The oranges, reds, pinks and purples were inspired by sunsets. They’re all so pretty! I knew I was going to be happy with any of the three bags I would receive. In the end, I received the bag that says Good Vibes Only and I love it!

The contents of my bag weren’t too shabby either.

ipsy august 2017 winky lux concealer

The first product was the Winky Lux Peeper Perfect Concealer in Medium ($??.??, 3 g). This concealer is so nice! I’ve used it for a few days now and I’m quite impressed. The consistency is silky smooth and light. It’s easy to apply – I just used my ring finger – and blends in quite nicely. The shade Medium was the perfect shade match for me. It’s said to be hydrating with buildable coverage and I completely agree with that. The only thing I don’t like is the fact that the sample is so small! Good thing you don’t need to use too much of it each time. This is definitely one I would repurchase in the future! Heck, I am considering using the ipsy discount to get this – it is that good!

ipsy august 2017 pacifica blush

When I first saw that I was getting the Pacifica Coconut Blush Duo in Beaming and Tenderheart ($??.??, 14 g), I had mixed feelings. Why? Because I wasn’t too impressed with their makeup products that I received in past ipsy bags. They always were lacking pigment and I was always disappointed. But when I tried it, I was surprised at how great these blushes are! They are so pigmented and totally buildable. A soft touch for a light shade or build it up for more colour. The colours are really nice, too! Beaming is a muted terracotta and Tenderheart is a soft mauve. Gotta say, I do favour Tenderheart but they’re both pretty great. And what’s even greater? These are pretty much full sized. I was impressed with the size of it and the mirror on the bottom of the packaging was neat, too. I’m sure I will get it dirty, though. Fingerprints!

ipsy august 2017 air repair eye cream

This next one was a surprise to me. I was not expecting to like it as much as I do! The Air Repair Skincare Super-Hydrating Eye Cream ($7.67 USD, 5 ml) is such a nice light eye cream! It feels like a cloud going on my skin – it’s that gentle! It also has a nice soft scent to it. I’ve only used it for a couple of days but I really like it so far! Shame this is also such a small sample. It’s a good thing that you don’t need to apply very much each time.

ipsy august 2017 the balm balmvoyage eyeshadow

This next one is a love-hate relationship. I received yet another theBalm product. This time it was theBalm Voyage Volume 2 Eyeshadow in the shade Wilkommen ($??.??, 0.57 g). Again it’s such a small sample! Cute, though, but still! I have tried this shade and it’s a nice deep caramel shimmer. I will use it since I love using neutral shades on work days. I guess it’s just the size that bugs me! But that’s nothing new, I guess.

ipsy august 2017 slmissglam brush

Last but not least was the SLMissGlam T35 Precise Blending Brush ($13.00 USD). This was an okay brush. It’s not as soft and is a little bit scratchy when I’m applying eye shadow but it’s still super cute! I love the teal colour and the small gems on it! And honestly – I just can’t say no to new brushes! 🙂

So that’s it for August! I couldn’t quite figure out the value of this bag seeing as I couldn’t figure out the price of three out of the five products. At the end of the day, I’m using it all so it’s worth it to me. Heck, I have been using the Winky Lux concealer and Air Repair eye cream on the daily this past week! So good.

How was your August glam bag? Did you have any favourite products?

Unboxing + Review: FabFitFun Summer 2017

fabfitfun summer 2017

Hello Summer! That is the perfect headline so FabFitFun got it right! The Summer FabFitFun box is chock full of items that scream summer! I was super excited to receive my Summer box because the spoilers made it super hard to resist. Just so many amazing things… you’ll see!

FabFitFun is a seasonal lifestyle subscription box that contains everything from beauty to fitness items. Honestly one of my favourite subscriptions because I haven’t unsubscribed to this one yet like I did for so many others already! If you would like to try this subscription, please use my link here.

fabfitfun summer 2017

Before we begin this unboxing, can I just say that this box looks amazing? Because it does! And bonus points for being purple because that’s my favourite colour! 😉

fabfitfun summer 2017

fabfitfun summer 2017

Every FabFitFun box comes with a magazine and this time around, it came in the form of a newspaper. Within this newspaper, you get the details of all the products in the Summer box plus many articles that are relevant to the items you receive. As usual, there are the items that everyone gets in one variation or another and then there are the Choice items that you get to choose based on some vague hints. But before we take a look at those Choice items, let’s take a peek at the stuff that is found in each and every Summer box.

fabfitfun summer 2017 michael stars ruana

fabfitfun summer 2017 michael stars ruana

Let’s start with the Michael Stars Ruana ($54.00 USD). If you are like me, you are probably asking “So… what is a ruana?”. Forgive me! While I’m in the loop with beauty, fashion is not my forte! 😉 Well, I did some research and essentially a ruana is a poncho-style garment originally from the Andes region of Venezuela. It has so much versatility because you can wear it as a scarf, sarong or even a shawl. Check out the many different ways you can wear it in this video by FabFitFun. I received the blue colour variation (there are three patterns and colours available) and it feels so soft and light! I’m going to have to experiment with this one.

fabfitfun summer 2017 bkr bottle

Next, I received the BKR Little (500 ml) Water Bottle ($35.00 USD). To be perfectly honest, I have wanted one of these for a long time now so imagine my excitement when I saw that this was included in my box! I received the pink bottle (which is also available in blue). It’s a glass water bottle that is so cute. I will definitely be using this at work! I need to get a carabiner so I can use the cap loop to hook it on to my bag.

fabfitfun summer 2017 cargo hd highlighter

I also received a makeup item in my bag and being the highlighter junkie that I am, I was glad to see it! The Cargo HD Picture Perfect Highlighter in Bronze ($30.00 USD) is beautiful! I love that is’ a compact with a mirror. It’s going to be great for travel! The consistency of this highlighter feels very smooth and it looks very pigmented. You can apply it lightly or really build up that shine! Looking forward to using this!

fabfitfun summer 2017 juice beauty

The Juice Beauty Smoothing Eye Concentrate ($29.00 USD) is probably what I was least excited about. I haven’t been a big fan of the Juice Beauty products that I have tried in the past. Granted, I’ve only tried their Green Apple line which this product is not a part of. Instead, it contains grape, aloe and carrot juice so I may actually like it. It’s worth a try. We shall see!

fabfitfun summer 2017 avene

Another skincare product I received was the Avene Ultra-Light Hydrating Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50+ ($24.00 USD). Perfect for summer! You always need a sunscreen to protect your skin from harmful UVA/UVB rays. This one is great for sensitive skin and is lightweight enough to use on your face. I’m sure I will be using this product! It’s super practical, in my opinion.

fabfitfun summer 2017 kris nations

fabfitfun summer 2017 kris nations

The next one is so pretty! I received the turquoise Kris Nations Mystic Bar Necklace ($58.00 USD). Turquoise promotes balance, discovery and confidence. Fort he record, this was missing from my box when I first received it so I was super disappointed. But I contacted their Customer Service right away and they were very quick in sending out a replacement! I received it about a week after… which is pretty good considering the box itself seems to take forever and a day to get to Canada sometimes! I’m so glad they sent it right away because I love this! The necklace came in a cute glass jar and ti’s so delicate. I’m glad I receive the turquoise one because it goes with pretty much most of my wardrobe. I can definitely see myself wearing this necklace a lot! I love it! Probably my fave item from this season’s box.

fabfitfun summer 2017

This last one is a sponsored freebie. The Vital Proteins Marie Collagen is an unflavoured drink mix. It is drinkable collagen (first I have ever heard of this!) that can be added to pretty much any hot or cold drink. It is gluten free, sugar free and non-GMO. And again, there is a card that gives you 3 months of free access to Salted. Salted has cooking classes videos and recipes. There’s something for the chefs out there! If you like cooking, you can take advantage of this code.

And now on to the Choice items! The Summer Box came with two Choice items and I gotta admit, I like having the opportunity to choose something… and it’s even better that it’s still a surprise!

fabfitfun summer 2017 salted

fabfitfun summer 2017 salted

For Choice 1, you got to choose between the following themes: traveler, artist and chef. While I do love to travel and do artsy things (I mean, paint night anyone???), I chose the Chef option. Boy, was I ever glad that I did! I received the Salted Himalayan Pink Salt Kit ($26.00 USD). It comes as a small block of himalayan salt and includes a wooden stand that you can display it on when you put it in your kitchen. A small metal grater was also included and the wooden stand has a spot for that, as well. It’s said that Himalayan pink salt is bet used to sprinkle on top of your food to finish dishes. This is such a unique item! I love it! To cover all our bases, the Artist choice would have been a Ready, Set, Creat! Art Kit which includes a canvas, brushes, acrylic paints and an alphabet stencil and the Traveler choice would have been an Understated Leather On The Road Again Travel Set which contains a passport cover and luggage tag.

fabfitfun summer 2017 klorane

For Choice 2, you got to choose between the following themes: fitness and beauty. I went with Beauty, of course! I received the Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk ($20.00 CAD). I have tried this before because I received a travel size of this product in one of my previous Topbox’s. I really liked it so having a full sized can is great! Just an FYI – choosing Fitness would have gotten you the Way of Will 03 Soothe and Cool Massage Oil.

So that’s it! That’s all for my Summer FabFit Fun box! The value of my box, including the two Choice items I received, came to $276.00 USD (which comes to a whopping $343.00 CAD in today’s exchange rate!) which is amazing! While it doesn’t appear to have as many items as previous boxes, the value is still very much there and because I received many great items that I will be using, it’s totally worth it for me!

What was your fave from this season’s box? Were you happy with your choices? I love seeing my readers thoughts in the comments! 🙂

Project Pan: 16 in 2016 – Mid-Year Update: Empties!

project pan 2016 updateWOW! Where has the summer gone? I don’t know about you but it went by way too quickly!

Project Pan 2016 has been going full force since January! Don’t think I forgot about this initiative of mine. 😉 I had meant to provide an update on on the progress of my Project Pan sooner! Since my last post in April, I have made great strides in my Project Pan! Big enough progress that I am going to dedicate this update to just my empties. Don’t worry, for the products that are still “in progress”, I will provide another update soon. I have quite a few to go through so let’s get started!

The Quick Stats

Based on a total of 21 products in my Project Pan as of August 31, 2016.

Empties: 12/21
In Progress: 9/21

project pan 2016

Success! (aka The Empties)

For empties, I will be doing a quick review on each product – what I thought, what I liked, what I didn’t like, would I buy it again. I have made great progress since my last update back in April – I finished seven products. 🙂

  • Maybelline Dream Fresh BB 8-in-1 Beauty Balm SPF 30  in Medium
I honestly thought that this product was bottomless. Seriously. I was using this just about every single day since January and, like the Energizer Bunny, it kept going and going and going! But now it’s finally empty! This product lasted me forever. I really like it, too. If you are looking for a lightweight sheer foundation, this is a great option. It goes on nicely with a Beauty Blender or a foundation brush and doesn’t oxidize on me. It’s not full coverage but it’s nice for light to medium coverage.
  • MAC Fix+ Spray
I purchased the travel sized bottle of this just so I could try it… and I ended up loving it! This bottle still lasted me a good while. I like the scent as it’s not too strong and I found that it worked very well in keeping my makeup in place all day. Plus, this is a great way to revive your ColourPop eyeshadows that have dried up a little bit. I have since purchased a new bottle. 🙂
  • Caudalie Makeup Remover Cleansing Water
I’m so sad I finished this! I know I will be repurchasing this because I just adore this cleansing water! I use it in the morning just before I start my skin care routine and I use it at night for evenings when I’m too tired to cleanse my face with my Foreo. I put it on a cotton round and use it to wipe my makeup off and it does a pretty good job! I really like this bottle because I can reuse it very easily – just add more product to it and off you go! It’s the perfect size for travel. I will definitely be repurchasing this!
  • Nip + Fab Sheer Make-Up Fix Complexion Perfector
This was a really nice primer – it’s too bad that this product has been discontinued! This was so easy to apply and it absorbs SO nicely. My face was never sticky and my makeup stayed on all day. Dang. If this ever returns to the N+F lineup, I would totally repurchase it!

project pan 2016

  • Vichy Idealia Skin Sleep*
I never really tried Vichy until I received this product from ChickAdvisor and I’m so glad they exposed me to something that is a pretty amazing product! This is best used as an evening moisturizer – it is thick but not sticky. It absorbs quickly and helps the dry patches on my skin stay hydrated in the winter. You don’t have to use very much so this jar probably lasted me almost a year. Overall, I was very happy with this product. Next time I’m in the market for a night cream, this is pretty much at the top of my list. 🙂
  • Benefit It’s Potent! Eye Cream
I’m not sure about this one. I didn’t really notice much of a difference to my eye area after using this. I was also not a big fan of the jar… it’s so small so the jar opening is small and it was difficult to get product out when you only have a little bit left. I think this is a pass for me.

project pan 2016

  • Alterna Caviar CC Cream
I have used up maybe two of these. This most recent one is the one I took on my trip to Vegas in June. It lasted me the 5 days and then some once I got home. It’s a good sized product. This product helps with a number of things including taming frizz which I have due to dry ends. It worked well enough but after awhile, I didn’t like the smell as much. I have since found other products which do the same thing that I prefer. I likely won’t get this again.

project pan 2016

To keep this short and sweet, I am only going to write about the empties. Check back soon for more about what is “in progress” (there are nine of ’em!) and what I will be adding to my Project Pan because… well, it’s only September. Let’s keep this going!

For previous project pan updates, clicky here: Intro 1, Intro 2, Update 1

Are you doing project pan this year? What is your fave product so far? How about your least fave?

Hope you are all having a fantastic week! Until next time my friends. 🙂

August Favorites 2016

august favorites 2016

It’s almost the end of August! So I decided to skip my July favorites in favor of jumping straight into my August favorites. It’s a decision I made because I was blindsided by how quickly the summer is flying by! In ways, I feel like I lost the entire month of July – seriously, where did it go? I feel like I blinked and it was the end of August. Go figure.

For some reason, when I was trying to pick out a few choice faves, I had a very difficult time trying to decide on what my August favorites were. Because I skipped a month, there were so many! I really didn’t want to have to write a novel! So I made some quick picks – saving what I didn’t choose this month for next month – and here they are. 🙂

This month my first favorite is a makeup favorite – the Mellow Cosmetics face blush in the shade Bronze. Wait, what? A bronze blush, you say? Yes, you did hear me correctly! I will admit, when I first received this in my March 2016 ipsy bag, I was skeptical. “Wouldn’t this make more sense as a bronzer rather than a blush?”, I asked. Silly question, I know. I soon found out that it really is pretty amazing! It could just be my skin tone, though… I’m quite tanned at the moment… but it really gives my cheeks a nice flush of colour. It’s nicely pigmented. You can apply as little as you want and if you want more colour, it’s easy to build up. It applies amazingly well with my Sedona Lace FB 05 Travel Dome Contour Face Brush. I do really want to try more Mellow blush colours! They have Peach and Pink. Maybe one day… oh, and yes, you totally can use this as a bronzer if you choose to. 😉

august favorites 2016

august favorites 2016

My next favorite is not makeup but it is closely related to it. The INSPR Eye Fluff Brush – which I also received through ipsy back in May – is pretty darned amazing! It picks up just enough eye shadow and it blends like a dream! I have not tried a brush quite like this which makes blending eye shadow so easy. The bristles are nice and soft. Unfortunately, INSPR doesn’t ship to Canada because I would definitely consider trying other brushes from this brand. I did, however, swap for another one of these brushes just so I would always have a clean one when the other is dirty. Yes, I love this bruh that much!

august favorites 2016

august favorites 2016

Of course, I also have to throw in a skincare favorite. This month I have chosen the Nourish Organic Renewing Eye Cream. I had completely forgotten about this until I noticed it again in my stash. I honestly don’t know how I could forget about it, though! I have tried many eye creams… SO MANY eye creams… but this one actually made a difference to my puffy under eye area. The formulation of this eye cream contains avocado and argan oil that helps condition and hydrate your skin. You don’t need a lot and it absorbs quickly. Overall, I am sure happy about this eye cream and often wonder what I will do when I run out! As you can see, I’m pretty close to running out of this amazing stuff! I may order it but to ship a $21 USD cream to Canada costs $20 USD so I am not sure if I will be repurchasing unless I can find a cheaper alternative of getting this product. We shall see…

august favorites 2016

august favorites 2016

Makeup… skincare.. what’s next? How about hair care? The Bumble and Bumble Repair Blow Dry also made my faves this month. To be honest, this has been a fave for many months now… ever since I received a little sample of it from a Sephora VIB Rouge event goodie bag I received earlier this year. I have since purchased a full size and tried the All Style Blow Dry that’s for all hair types but I didn’t like it as much. The Repair Blow Dry is said to be for dry hair but I find that it works great on my normal hair, too. I use it before I blow dry and it’s so easy to apply in our hair. It smells fantastic and doesn’t make my hair feel heavy or sticky at all! I love that it’s a great multi-purpose product that helsp fight frizzy ends and protects against heat and UV damage – all great things! My hair has never felt better since I have started using this!

august favorites 2016

That’s all from the world of beauty this month… but let’s not stop there! I also had a favorite book this month and it’s called The Glam Guide by Fleur De Force. You may have heard of Fleur De Force before. She is a YouTuber, vlogger, blogger and now author! Quite honestly, she is the one YouTuber I started watching years ago when I first discovered the world of beauty videos on YouTube who I still watch today. I always look forward to her vlogging months because it seems like she’s always doing something cool and takes us along with her as she goes about her day. She’s my fave YouTuber, really. 🙂 I was actually quite excited to learn she was writing a book last year and so I put the book on my Christmas wish list and my hubby found it and included it in my gift. I was a happy girl on Christmas Day! The version that I received is the North American one – the UK version has a different cover – and the cover is so great. It sums up the book and the watercolours are lovely.

august favorites 2016

Her book is great – it is very well written and it’s illustrated beautifully. It’s a fairly quick read that includes some great tidbits about topics such as makeup, hair, lifestyle motivation and even includes a section for those who are curious about starting up your own YouTube channel or blog. Fleur’s second book, called The Luxe Life, was just recently released in the UK. At the time of writing this blog post, I couldn’t find a release date for Canada but I’m hoping I will be able to get it here too. I wouldn’t mind checking it out. Maybe I can add it to my Christmas wish list this year. 😉 Anyways, back to The Glam Guide. It’s a lovely book. And it makes for an awesome coffee table book to boot!

august favorites 2016

So that’s it for my August faves. What were you loving this month? Share in the comments below! I’d love to hear from you!

xoxo

Disclaimer: All items in my August Favorites 2016 post were purchased by me with the exception of The Glam Guide which I received as a gift. All opinions are mine and mine alone. 🙂 I have included links to all the products for those who are interested in checking them out, however, none of them are affiliate links.

Project Pan: 16 in 2016 – Update #1

Finally! A Project Pan update!

I was hoping to post this earlier but after a super busy Easter weekend and then being sick last week, I haven’t had much time in front of the laptop. This post may be a bit on the longer side so hopefully this will make up for it!

While I do have a slew of new posts coming your way, I thought I would do an update on my Project Pan. I decided to post updates every two months. This update will only encompass the eight products I introduced in my post back in January. I will cover the other eight in an update at the end of April. So here we go!
