FabFitFun Winter 2017 – Unboxing and Review

fabfitfun winter 2017

Wow! Is it time for another FabFitFun unboxing already? The seasons seem to be flying by! We are in the midst of winter (and with the bone chilling temperatures we’ve been getting this past week, I believe it!) so all we want to do is keep toasty, warm and cozy.

For those who are unfamiliar with it. FabFitFun is a seasonal lifestyle subscription box that contains everything from beauty to fitness items. Seriously a mishmash of many different products for the season. Every box tends to be very high value (I’m talking in the $200+ and then some range most of the time!) so it’s not your typical subscription box. If you would like to try this subscription, please use my link here.

fabfitfun winter 2017

The Winter box is filled with all sorts of things to help you get through the season. But before we get into the contents, let’s discuss the Choice items.

There were two Choice themes this season: Beauty and Wellness. The two Beauty items you could choose from were the Grace + Stella Anti-Wrinkle + Energizing Eye Masks ($16.00 USD) and the Nelson j Beverly Hills Moisture Healing Hair Mask in Coconut ($23.00 USD). The two Wellness items were the FFFTV Fitness Ball with Jillian Michaels Videos ($16.00 USD) and the This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray ($29.00 USD).

My Choices were the Nelson j Beverly Hills Moisture Healing Hair Mask and the This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray. I can always use a new hair mask and the sleep spray smells like lavender and smells lovely. I do love a lavender spray on my pillow at night. I was happy with both of my choices this time around!

Okay, now on to the standard contents of the box… beginning with beauty items!

I’m a huge fan of Kate Somerville products – at least of the products I have tried! – so I was excited to see the Exfolikate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment ($75.00 USD). I just started using her products this year so I’ve never tried this product before but I’ve heard great things about it. This exfoliator contains papaya, pumpkin and pineapple enzymes and uses a combination of both physical and chemical exfoliators. Plus, its a two minute treatment. If it’s quick and effective, then perfect!

Next up is the DOUCCE Freematic Eyeshadow Pro Palette in Nude ($70.00 USD). This palette features eight eyeshadows and one highlighter. I haven’t tried it yet so I can’t say much about the formulation of these powder products but I do like how compact this is. I can see myself using this for travel and a 2-in-1 with eyeshadow and a highlighter. That is one less thing you need to pack!

The AHAVA Mineral Hand Cream ($33.00 USD) is a rich hand cream that is perfect for those of you who have dry hands. I know I get dry hands in the winter so this is perfect! I also like the scent, too.

Moving on to fashion items, the BB Dakota Poncho in Black ($70.00 USD) is so cozy and also very stylish! I’m glad that I received this colourway (the other two available was burgundy and grey) because it is reversible and the other side is grey. This makes it super versatile and it goes with pretty much everything!

The Pointe Studio Aloe Infused Cozy Socks ($19.00 USD) are so soft and perfect for cozy nights in at home. I live for cozy socks and slippers in the wintertime! I mean, who doesn’t love a pair of cozy socks in this weather? I also like how these socks are aloe infused. Super great.

fabfitfun winter 2017

The 8 Other Reasons Nine Lives Choker in Silver ($58.00 USD) looks super classy and delicate. Perfect for when you’re dressed up for, say a holiday party, for example!

fabfitfun winter 2017

The last item in this season’s box is the Homemade by Ayesha Curry Ceramic Mug ($16.00 USD). There were three variations of this product and I received the black and white mug that says “Coming in Hot” on it. Perfect for my morning coffee or evening hot chocolate. 🙂

fabfitfun winter 2017

The total value of my Winter FabFitFun box was $393.00 USD. That translates to $495.50 CAD at todays exchange rate. I think this is one of the highest value boxes I have received!  Add to it that I was happy with everything I received. Overall, I adored the Winter box!

What do you think of this season’s offerings? I’d love to hear what you think!

Unboxing + Review: Boxycharm November 2017 Sweater Weather

boxycharm november 2017

Sweater Weather.

With it being as cold as it is this week (and it has been pretty warm up until the other day!), it definitely is sweater weather around here! So how perfect is it that Boxycharm would use this as their theme for November’s box.

boxycharm november 2017

Boxycharm is an American subscription box that ships to Canada. It is $21.00 USD per month or you can get a small discount for a 3-month, 6-month or annual subscription. You can cancel at anytime which is nice. Each month you will receive four to five full-sized beauty items. If you would like to try this sub, I would appreciate it if you would use my link here. 🙂

There were a couple of items that I was super excited about when I received this box. Let’s take a look at those products first.

I’m not sure if you’ve noticed but I am a huge Luxie Beauty fan. There isn’t a brush of theirs that I have tried and disliked… I just adore them! So I was very excited to see the Luxie Beauty Quad Eyes Travel Set ($32.00 USD). This set comes with four eye brushes that are the same as their full sized version. I love that these are so compact. I will definitely be taking these the next time I travel and they will be very useful during camping… er… glamping season. 😉

Next up is a full-sized bottle of the CoverFX Illuminating Setting Spray ($31.00 USD). I have been wanting to try this setting spray for the longest time so I was happy to receive it! This setting spray is meant to set your makeup and provide you with instant all over illumination. I love how fine the mist is – one of the finest mists I have ever seen! – because it doesn’t make my face feel like its drenched. A huge plus that this is alcohol free so it shouldn’t dry out your skin. So far I am really liking this!

The next product is so cute! The WinkyLux Kitten Palette ($25.00 USD) features cute kittens on the outer packaging and highly-pigmented shadows on the inside. The eyeshadows are a mix of different finishes  including mattes, satins, glitters and holographic shadows. My love for cats means that I automatically love this but the shadows are great too so it’s fantastic all around.

These next products I weren’t as excited about.

The Laqa & Co Cloud Lips in the shade Sunshower ($17.00 USD) is a matte lipstick that is full coverage and long lasting. I would love to try this product but I’m not a big fan of this shade so I’m going to try and find a new home for it. Bright blue reds and I don’t really get along.

boxycharm november 2017 laqua & co cloud lips

Last, I received three KNC Beauty Collagen Lip Masks ($15.00 USD). These are jelly lip masks that provide hydration, moisture and plump. I’m not sure about these lip masks but seeing as my lips have been pretty dry this winter, I’m willing to give it a chance.

b

So that’s it! The total value of this box was $120.00 USD which later translates into around $152.00 CAD using today’s exchange rate. Not too shabby, if you ask me! I love three out of five of the items so that’s still pretty good.

What did you think of November’s Boxycharm?

Shop My Stash: October 2017 … and an Update!

shop my stash october 2017

Howdy everyone! Yes, I do realize that it’s the middle of October already and I still haven’t posted this month’s Shop My Stash and September’s recap. All with good reason, of course. Which will all be explained below…

First off, October was actually a tough one for me to put a basket together for. This was mostly because I have so much on the go in terms of open products that I actually really like and use on the daily. Hence why I’m not in a huge rush with September’s recap as I’m still using the majority of it right now! I think this is a good thing. It only means that I’m finding things that I love and that my collection is being used and is in essence shrinking… which was the goal I had set myself when I started my Shop My Stash series in the first place!

I’m going to tell you right now – don’t expect October’s basket to be chock full of products. In fact, I only have six items in it. I will explain as we go along…

What is a Shop My Stash?

It’s exactly what it sounds like. Every month, I will be going into my makeup collection and – you guessed it – I will shop my stash. ? Just think of it as a haul post but instead of makeup I bought at Sephora or at Shoppers Drug Mart, it’s a haul straight from my own collection! And I’m hoping that by doing this monthly, I won’t get bored of the products I chose like I did in last year’s Project Pan.

If you’re interested, you can find my other Shop My Stash posts here.

How Shop My Stash Works… and an Update!

If you have been following along, you are aware that every month, I take one or two products of a certain type (be it eyeshadow, primer or mascara) and put them in a basket. As we are into Month #10, I found a need to modify this a little bit. First off, in addition to the product categories that are still on the go, I am breaking down the list of product types into the following categories, as well:

  • Success! – This category consists of the products where I no longer have many different products for. Because of that, I no longer need to use up products on a rotation schedule. There is only one or a couple left in these categories.
  • Working On It! But On Hold For Now… – There were some categories where I still have to work on my stash but there are currently a number of products that I like and are open and in use. In order to give myself a chance to use the open items, I have put a freeze on these categories until it’s time to use something new. I will start these up again in the near future once I finish up some of my products that are on the go.

If you haven’t noticed, I did not include any lip products (lipstick, lipgloss, etc.) to my list. This is because they are already in rotation in my purse. I change them around a lot so I didn’t think they needed special attention like the rest of these products!

At the end of each month I will have to make a few decisions: keep the product, continue using it (for those holy grail products I must always use) or get rid of it. I’m hoping that by doing this I can help identify my loves and get rid of what I don’t want anymore. I hope that I can get my collection under control.

Don’t get me wrong, though. I am not going to be limited to only using what’s in my basket. If there’s something I want to use then by all means, I will! The basket is just there to help give me something to focus on that month.

Then at the end of the month, I will summarize my monthly basket (what I loved, what I didn’t love, etc.) and then I will pick out a new basket of products!

Shop My Stash for October 2017

Here’s the skinny. The skinny basket, that is. There are only six products in this month’s basket. And I want it to be clear… I have been using all of these since October 1st!

  • Face primer: Wet n’ Wild PhotoFocus Face Primer
  • Foundation / BB Cream: Wet n’ Wild PhotoFocus Foundation in Cream Beige, Maybelline Super Stay Better Skin Powder in Natural Beige
  • Setting Spray: Wet n’ Wild PhotoFocus Setting Spray

bottom row: highlighters in champagne pop and prosecco pop

  • Blush and Highlighter: BECCA Jaclyn Hill Champagne Collection Face Palette featuring three blushes and two highlighters

  • Eye shadow (palette or singles): Buxom Custom 6-Pan Eyeshadow Bar Palettes (that I got for, I believe $20 each when Sephora had them on sale online)

It’s quite the mix of Wet n’ Wild this month! And even though I am just posting this now, I have been using these since October 1st. 🙂

Success!

Well, now that I’ve gone through what’s in my basket, I thought I would write a quick summary of the product categories which I have been successful in finally getting under control! I still have two months left in the Shop My Stash 2017 series and I was planning on doing a HUGE recap in January but things are already so different from how things were in January that I thought I’d do a quick update now.

These categories of products are pretty much under control now. If something new comes into my collection, I can easily decide what to do with it because I know what’s in my collection. I can decide to try it and keep it or just sell or give it away if I don’t need it. This is great progress!

As of the end of September 2017, seven out of the 17 categories have been a success! It’s a great feeling! 🙂 Here they are:

  1. Color Corrector – I didn’t have many of these in the first place so this one was a quick win!
  2. Concealer I have finished going through what I have in my stash and there haven’t been any new concealers introduced to it or purchased. I’m only using the ones that I love right now. 🙂
  3. Setting Powder – Similar to concealers, I’m only using what I love now.
  4. Pore Reducer – I am down to one: Benefit’s The POREfessional
  5. Eye Primer – I only have a handlful of the ones that I love left in my collection and I plan on using them all!
  6. Brow Setting Gel – I’m also down to one with this one! In fact, I just finished my MAC Setting Gel and have moved on to the Pixi Beauty Brow Tamer
  7. Mascara Primer – Again, I’m down to one with this one. I finished my tarte Opening Act deluxe sample and I’m using my deluxe sample of Dior’s Diorshow Maximizer primer which has always been my favourite of all time in this category.

Working On It! But On Hold For Now…

There were some categories where I know I still have some work to do to trim down my stash but I have a number of open products that I like and really want to use. In order to give myself a chance to use these items, I have essentially put the following categories on hold. I will start these up again when I’m ready.

  • Eyeliner
  • Brow
  • Mascara
  • Bronzer – This is an odd one – the only reason this one is “on hold” is because my skin is still a couple of shades darker from the summer. I still have no need for  bronzer right now.

And that’s it for October! Apologies again for getting this up late. I really was trying to figure things out for awhile there. But I did figure it out and I know what I’m doing with this initiative again.

Hope you’re still enjoying this series! Let me know about your thoughts and suggestions in the comments below. 🙂

Unboxing + Review: Boxycharm September 2017 Boxy Baddie

boxycharm september 2017

Hope you all had a great week! With Thanksgiving last weekend, it was a short work week and the weekend is around the corner again so I can’t complain! For my fellow Canadians, I hope you had a great Thanksgiving! I know I enjoyed mine! Family, friends, food, relaxation… what more could I have asked for?  🙂

boxycharm september 2017

Anyways, back to blogging. 🙂 Let’s talk about September’s Boxycharm! The theme was Boxy Baddie. For those of you who are not familiar with Boxycharm, the details are as follows.

So let’s get started with this unboxing! I was really excited about this first product – the PUR Soiree Diaries Eyeshadow Palette ($34.00 USD) is beautiful!

This palette contains eight neutral mattes and four glitter shades. You can create four looks using the trio of colours vertically… but of course, you aren’t limited to just those. After using this for about a week now, I find that the shades are very pigmented and they blend out very easily. It’s a pretty slim palette that isn’t heavy so it’s compact enough for travel.

Next, I received an Eyebrow Pencil in the shade Spiked from MAC Cosmetics ($18.00 USD). Gotta admit, until recently, I haven’t seen MAC products in beauty boxes so it’s nice to finally see them in the mix! The shade Spiked is a dark brown which is perfect for me since I like to use a shade lighter on my black brows. it makes it look more natural.  There is also no need to use a sharpener with this one so that’s a plus!

boxycharm september 2017 colourpop ultra satin littlestitious

boxycharm september 2017 colourpop ultra satin littlestitious

I also received a ColourPop Ultra Satin Lip in Littlestitious ($6.00 USD). I have a number of Ultra Satin’s and I really like the formulation. Unfortunately, this shade isn’t for me. It’s too light for my skin tone but I think it would look great on lighter skin tones. It is a great product so I will pass this on to someone who will be able to use it.

boxycharm september 2017 luminous loose blush studio makeup

Next up, we have the Luminous Loose Blush from Studio Makeup ($35.00 USD). This looks like a very neutral shade. I don’t own any powder blushes so I’m curious to see how this product is! My first impression was that I love this type of packaging. I have a Gosh setting powder in similar packaging and it’s great! Because you can essentially “close” and seal the holes where the product sifts through, it’s less messy which is great especially if you ever want to take it somewhere. There’s no need for you to open the jar only to have the possibility of powder flying everywhere and making a mess! This type of packaging is so great!

boxycharm september 2017 bareminerals face perfecting brush

boxycharm september 2017 bareminerals face perfecting brush

The bareMinerals Face Perfecting Brush ($28.00 USD) is unique in that there is a reservoir in the middle where you put your foundation in it before you application. I tried that method a few times and found that I ended up using too much foundation doing it that way. I also tried it where I would dot my face with foundation and blend it in. The brush works well both ways but I prefer the latter.

boxycharm september 2017 briogeo don't despair repair deep conditioning mask

Last, but not least, is the Don’t Despair Repair Deep Conditioning Mask from Briogeon ($20.00 USD). I have used a deluxe sample of this so I have tried it before. I really like it! It made my hair super soft and I like the scent. This is a great deep conditioner.

That is all for September! The total value of this box was $141.00 USD (which is $175.00 CAD based on today’s exchange rate) which makes it a high value box. I also really like how you get full-sized (or almost full-sized) items. It totally makes this box worth it! Love it!

What did you think of September’s Boxycharm?

Unboxing + Review: ipsy September 2017 Like A Boss

ipsy september 2017

It’s October and here is September’s ipsy glam bag! I don’t know about you but I love fall! Not so much the cold or the approaching winter but the colours are amazing on the trees. I got to really enjoy them when we went on our last camping trip of the season this past weekend. It’s beautiful outside!

ipsy september 2017

ipsy September 2017

Another month, another ipsy glam bag. September’s theme is Like A Boss. The five products comes in a slick looking black glam bag. It’s black, faux leather and features spikes. How’s that for a “boss” of a bag? 😉

ipsy september 2017

The first item I received is the Luxie Rose Gold Medium Angled Shading Eye Brush #207 ($14.99 USD). I love all my Luxie brushes so I have high hopes for this one! The bristles are so soft and if they are like my other Luxie eye brushes, the make blending your eyeshadows super easy. So glad I received this! And honestly, the rose gold is beautiful!

ipsy september 2017 pixi

Next up is the Pixi by Petra Beauty Blush Duo in Peach Honey ($7.93 USD). I love the looks of this blush! Use one side or the other or mix the two up. 🙂 Using a light hand, this could also make a great highlighter because of the shimmer. Multi-purpose products are always a huge plus for me!

ipsy september 2017 smashbox

I also received the Smashbox Photo Finish Radiance Primer ($9.75 USD). I’m always on the fence with Smashbox primers but I will give this one a try.  I’m not sure if it’s an all over primer or just something I would maybe mix in with my foundation. Might be good for winter as it will give you a bit of a glow!

ipsy september 2017

ipsy september 2017

The next product I received was the Elizabeth Mott Pop! Goes The Shadow in Gunmetal ($4.55 USD). This isn’t really my kind of shade… I don’t often wear black shades or grey shades very often. I think this one is a pass for me.

ipsy september 2017 bio fresh

Last but not least was the re:p real elemental practice Bio Fresh Mask with Real Calming Herb ($6.31 USD). I haven’t used masks as often lately but I think I will try this one. It smells really nice and it looks like it will be good for sensitive skin.

That’s September’s bag! Valued at $43.53 USD ($54.48 CAN based on today’s exchange rate), it’s not the highest valued bag I have received but it’s still not bad. I will still use most of it, except for maybe the eyeshadow, so that’s okay.

Like what you see here and would like to try ipsy? This subscription is $10.00 USD  a month in the US and $10.00 USD + $4.00 USD shipping for Canadians. You get a mix of skincare, makeup and haircare deluxe and full sized products. And you get a different style of bag each month. If you are interested in trying this subscription, please use my link here.

What was in your ipsy bag this month? 🙂
