Unboxing + Review: ipsy April 2017 Side Show

ipsy glam bag april 2017

April’s ipsy glam bag is your ticket in to the show. Literally. The bag is a shaped like a ticket! 🙂

The theme for April’s bag is Side Show. It represents fun – like having fun at the arcade, having fun on the rides and just having fun in general.

While the bag itself is unique and cute, it does lack storage space in that it’s not the ipsy bag that would hold the most stuff. It is more about how it looks than it is practical, in my opinion. Still super cute, though. It would make a great conversation starter if you use it as a clutch!

Moving on, let’s take a look at the items I received in my bag.

The first item in my glam bag also embodies the “fun” vibe. The Glamour Dolls x Lisa Frank Angle Blush Brush ($5.00 USD) has unicorns and rainbows on it. This seems to be the “in thing” with a lot of companies nowadays, especially with unicorns, so I feel like this brush is very current. And the whole Lisa Frank think is totally a throwback to my childhood. I grew up loving Lisa Frank products and often saw the Lisa Frank ads in my Archie comic books and digests. I used to collect the stickers, buy stationery for school… the handle on this brush is just so nostalgic for me! The brush itself has very soft bristles with rose gold on the handle. So cute! This would be a great brush, not only for blush, but for power highlighters and bronzers, as well.

Next up, we have the Adesse New York Cupuacu Butter Lip Balm ($24.00 USD, 3 g) – and it is indeed full sized! Being the lip balm junking that I am, I was happy to see this. I have never heard of the brand Adesse before so I’m looking forward to trying it. The site says that this lip balm will smooth, moisturize and hydrate your lips. It looks two-toned but it’s mostly sheer and the centre core is “infused with cold pressed Cupaucu Butter”. The ginger mint scent is subtle but not my favourite. I find lip butters to be more moisturizing than just simple lip balms so I’m curious to see if that’s the case with this one.

Now how cute is this packaging? I recieved the Ciate London Mini Bamboo Bronzer in the shade Palm Island ($8.00 USD, 0.1 oz). Stars and a bow – what can I say? I am a sucker for cute packaging! 🙂 Palm Island is a mid to dark bronze. I think this shade should work on me… as long as I’m not super tanned. It feels silky to the touch and is lightweight. What I really like about this is that it’s a matte bronzer. There’s now glitter or shimmer or anything. I also love how it comes in a mini size. i can definitely keep it in my camping makeup bag and use it for travel in general.

This one I am super curious about. The Jesse’s Girl Liquid Eyeliner in Black ($6.99 USD, 1 ml) says it is Japanese made on the packaging and I’ve had great success with some Asian eyeliners in the past. It has a super thin, super precise tip which is what I usually use with liquid liners so this is right up my alley! Reminds me a bit of my holy grail Kat Von D Tattoo Liner that I adore. I haven’t tried it yet because I currently still have one KVD and an Essence eyeliner that I’m using but I will certainly try this one in the future. I hope it works well.

The last item in my bag was the Avene Rich Compensating Cream ($3.50 USD, 5 ml). I am a big fan of Avene moisturizers and this one would have been very handy this past winter when my face felt drier than usual. This is a richer, thicker moisturizer that is said to melt into your skin to soothe and nourish it. It doesn’t hurt to keep a product like this around if you tend to have dry skin at times. I’m sure I will be using it at some point in time.

And there we have it. The total value of my April ipsy glam bag was $47.49 USD which makes it around $65 CAD at today’s exchange rate. That’s not bad.

This wasn’t my absolute favourite bag but it was still pretty good. I will be using pretty much everything I received so that’s always a plus!

What was in your April glam bag?

Until next time, friends!

Unboxing + Review: ipsy March 2017 Tres Jolie

ipsy March 2017 ofra city color tarte skone cosmetics first aid beauty

It’s April! How did we already get to April? I know they say time goes by faster when you get older but this is ridiculous! Time seriously needs to slow down a bit or something!

The weather here is finally getting warmer which is great because I’m pretty much over the whole winter thing. What I’m really happy about right now is that I am all caught up in my blogosphere! It feels so good to be caught up. My March subscriptions are up next on the blog – starting with ipsy.

The theme for March’s ipsy glam bag was Tres Jolie which translates to Very Pretty in French. (Ha! Those French classes in junior high paid off after all!) But as you can see her, the bag is also… well… very pretty. Why? Because of these three things:

  1. It has a cool new design that you’ll flip for,
  2. It makes us soooo psyched for spring,
  3. It’s a chic, pale pink shade (that’s totally on trend).

So there you go. Straight from the ipsy site. Now you know.

ipsy March 2017

ipsy March 2017

But seriously, how adorable is this bag? I love that it can be a large makeup bag or a fold-over clutch. That is very practical and useful, in my opinion! This would be so great for travel, especially since it does double duty. Pack all your things and if you’re headed out for a night out, just dump all your makeup and use it as a clutch! PERFECT!

Also, how awesome is this month’s card? It’s a great reminder to us all and it’s so true. Always remember that!

ipsy March 2017

Moving on, let’s take a look at the contents of my March bag. I tell ya, ipsy’s got me all figured out! Let’s get started.

The first item we will look at is the Skone Cosmetics Luxe Pro Blending Brush ($15.00 USD). From the looks of it, this brush is from Skone’s new Luxe Pro Brush line. This blender brush has a fluffy, rounded head that’s made of synthetic hairs (described as professional grade nylon by the folks at Skone) and topped off with beautiful rose gold accents. I will say that this brush is so soft! Also, it’s a bonus that it’s rose gold… because really, rose gold is ‘in’ now. I am a big fan of blending brushes so I’m totally okay with adding one more to my collection! And honestly, you can never have too many brushes! Right? Who’s with me? 🙂

This next one is intriguing – the First Aid Beauty (FAB) Ultra Repair Face Moisturizer ($6.00 CAD, 9.6 g). It’s intriguing because I feel like I have used this before, years and years ago, and if it is the same thing then I remember loving it a lot. I never repurchased it because I had a big tub of the FAB Ultra Repair Cream that I used as a face moisturizer at the time because my face was super dry and I was dealing with some patches of eczema too. FAB really is a great brand and I have really enjoyed their products (heck, I have their Face Cleanser in my shower right now!) so I loved seeing this in my bag. Time to rediscover (what I think is) and oldie but a goodie!

ipsy March 2017 First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Face Moisturizer

Continuing on, I also received the City Color Cosmetics Photo Chic Dark Spot Corrector ($3.99 USD, 4 g). I can definitely use this on those days where my eyes give away exactly how tired I am! This is a peach concealer which will help disguise those under eye circles. I haven’t tried this yet so I can’t say much about the consistency and coverage but it does look promising.

I love receiving this brand in my subscriptions because it is one of the only ways of getting this brand without having to pay a lot to ship it to Canada! I received the Peach Blush from OFRA Cosmetics ($15.00 USD, 4 g) which I think is great because I love the brand and I haven’t tried any of their blushes yet. Glad I am finally get the chance to now! It’s a nice peach colour and it’s so pretty. I do love that it’s just the pan so I will be adding it into my magnetic palette which is perfect!

And last but not least! I received the Tarte Cosmetics tarteist Quick Dry Matte Lip Paint in the shade Delish ($4.00 CAD, 1 ml). Delish is described as a rosy mauve which falls into line with colours I usually love so it’s the perfect colour choice for me! I love it because it’s neutral enough to wear every day but still has a hint of rose in it. I find that this matte liquid lipstick feels comfortable on my lips and it isn’t as drying as others I’ve tried int he past. It is super pigmented too. I would love to try more shades!

Like what you see here? You get a mix of skincare, makeup and haircare deluxe and full sized products. And you get a different style of bag each month. If you are interested in trying this subscription, please use my link. 🙂

So that was it for March’s glam bag. I quite loved what I received! They were all pretty much hits with no misses and they will all get used at some point. What was your fave product from the March bag? 🙂

Have a wonderful weekend, starpixel friends! 🙂

Unboxing + Review: ipsy February 2017 Much Love #IPSYMUCHLOVE

ipsy febraury 2016

It’s time for another ipsy glam bag unboxing! Well, I guess it’s more of an unbagging. That doesn’t have quite the same ring to it but it’s the truth! Technicalities aside, let’s take a look at the bag and the mix of items that I received.

February’s theme is Much Love. How perfect is that considering it is Valentine’s Day? But aside from all that lovey dovey stuff, what ipsy was trying to get across is that the Much Love theme is all about your inner glow and how you show your squad, well, Much Loveone… which I was really skeptical about at first because it also has a neon orange trim that screams 80s and early 90s! Not exactly what I imagined for February, the month of love, but I suppose it will do. When I received it, I thought the bag was alright. It was a super soft denim material and it was cute.  Not my favourite by any means but also not horribly bad.

ipsy February 2017

The contents of the bag, however, is what made my February glam bag really shine! I absolutely adored everything I received! Let’s take a closer look.

The first item I received was the Luna by Luna Cosmetcis Highligher int he shade Calypso ($23.00 USD, 3 g). If you haven’t noticed, I have been on a huge highlighter kick lately! So I was happy to get a new one to try. When I first saw my bag reveal and saw that the colour was described as a pale lavender shade so I really wasn’t sure about this. But it did say that it’s a mix of warm and cool undertones that works with every skintone so I was willing to give it a shot. At the end of the day, it kind of reminds me of the new Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Prismtic Amethyst… not exactly but in the same or similar colour family. I wish I owned the Becca one to compare swatches. Anyways, this one is a baked highlighter so it feels sillky smooth to the touch. It is sheer with one swipe but it is super buildable so you can use as little or as much as you’d like depending on the look you’re trying to achieve. I don’t have one in this shade yet and I find it is pretty unique so I will try it. And can I just say that I love the name of this company and the packaging? I love stars and anything sky related, really, so Luna is right up my alley!

ipsy February 2017

I also received a lip product in the form of a NYX Butter Lipstick in Lifeguard ($6.00 USD, 4.5 g). I have tried butter lipsticks before and I’m a huge fan of their formulation and pigmentation. I love that they are creamy and not drying at all! But while I love them, I’m just so-so on this shade. Lifeguard is described as a deep magenta but to me it seems like it leans more towards red… and I am so not a bright red lipstick girl! I have been leaning more towards neutrals lately, everyday colours that I can use at the office or as I go about y errands during the day. And when I do choose a red, I go for the deeper berry colours. So at the end of the day, I adore this product but I am passing on the shade.

ipsy February 2017

I am actually quite excited about this next product because I have been dabbling in the world of toners lately! The Dermadeli Rejuvinating Toner ($2.49 US, 10 ml) intrigues me. I have never heard of this brand before but it’s all natural so I am willing to give it a chance. It is said to “remove cellular debris, tighten pores and firm(s) the skin” which all sounds great. The witch hazel and sea kelp helps with keeping your skin moisturized, as well. The one thing that is turning me off is the very strong scent that it has. It’s very herbal due to the witch hazel. While this comes in a great size for travel, the last time I received a toner sample in this size, I had wished that I had more! We’ll see if it’s the same thoughts this time around.

ipsy February 2017

Next up is the Elizabeth Mott Whatup Beaches Matte Bronzer ($2.19 USD, 0.7 g). My first impression of this was disappointing… mainly because this was so small and I have received other products form Elizabeth Mott that were much larger. When I received a blush from this brand last year, it was pretty much full-sized so when I saw that I was getting this, the expectation was pretty much the same. Instead, this made me reminiscent of the super small theBalm samples I have received and were unhappy with in the past. Anyways, I guess it was not meant to be. However, it still looks like a nice bronzer! It is matte and pigmented. A little powdery but easy enough to blend. I do prefer matte bronzers because they look more natural on me. This was also easy to depot. The pan came right out and I think I will just add it to my magnetic palette. Overall thoughts? Underwhelming in size, challenging to use with my larger brushes that I use for bronzer but still worth a try because I loved the blush I received before so much.

ipsy February 2017

Last but not least, my fave out of the entire bag – the Luxie Rose Gold Blush Brush 514 ($24.20 USD). Because you can never have too many brushes! I am a HUGE fan of Luxie brushes so I’m happy to be able to add a new one to my collection. This blush brush is made of soft synthetic bristles and is 100% cruelty free and 100% vegan. It’s so soft and so fluffy which is what I look for in a blush brush so this is just perfect for me! Great for powders like blush, bronzers or pressed highlighters. I just love it. It’s so great.

Well that’s it for February. The total value of this bag was $57.88 USD which translates into around $78.00 CAD so the value is definitely there! Plus, out of the five items I received, three were full sized (highlighter, lipstick and blush brush) so I really can’t complain at all! Everything will be used, as well. I can say with confidence that February’s ipsy glam bag was a win! 🙂

Oh wait! Before I forget, I did redeem points for something this month! The Wet n’ Wild megaglo Highlighting Powder in Precious Petals is absolutely gorgeous! Totally worth redeeming for. 🙂

Like what you see here? For those of you who would like to give this a try and would like to know more, this subscription is $10.00 USD  a month in the US and $10.00 USD + $4.00 USD shipping for Canadians. Shop My Stash Recap: January & February 2017

shop my stash - january and february

Happy March everyone! We are just around the corner from spring! At least, I hope we are. It’s quite the cold snap we are experiencing this week!

Wow! The first two months of my Shop My Stash felt like it flew by! After using these products for about a month and a half now, I’m ready to make some decisions about them… some easier than others.

Before I introduce you to my March lineup, here is a quick recap from the January and February selections. If you’re just joining us now and you don’t know what the Shop My Stash series is all about, please see my introductory post about this. It contains a pretty thorough explanation as to what this is all about. 🙂 So let’s get started! And we really should get started now because there is a lot to cover so go grab a cup of tea or coffee because this is a long one! 😉

The Empties

So I have decided to start with the easy ones. These are the products I finished and will be thrown away. No decision required.. .it’s pretty much just garbage right now. 😉 I can feel my collection getting smaller already! Rather than adding these to a future empties post, I’ll provide a short review of them now.

shop my stash - january and february

Face Primer: Too Faced Primed + Poreless Skin Smoothing Primer
This was already about 85% empty when I started using it again. I really like this primer because it really smooths my skin, making it the perfect “blank canvas”. Definitely one that I will repurchase again! Now that I think about it, this was already my second full size tube I have finished… not to mention, I’m sure I finished at least two small deluxe sizes, as well. This is pretty close to Holy Grail… or maybe it already is!

Setting Powder: Laura Mercier Invisible Loose Setting Powder
If I can recall, I received this from a past ipsy glam bag and that it came with a small fan brush. I can’t for the life of me find the fan brush! But I finally ended up trying this product and I ended up really loving it! It did a great job setting my makeup and it didn’t look powdery on my skin at all. I was sad that it was just a sample. I know this product is more on the expensive side but I would still repurchase it. I am also curious as to how the other, more popular Laura Mercier translucent setting powder performs. I wonder if that one comes in a smaller deluxe size…

Brow Setting Gel: MAC Cosmetics Brow Set in Translucent
If I want to be completely honest, this is my holy grail brow gel. This was my second tube I have gone through. I didn’t have very much left going into this Shop My Stash. It does an amazing job setting my brows and, unlike others I have tried, it doesn’t make my brows look white and flakey. So yes, this is a fave. And guess what! I already repurchased it. On to the third tube…

Mascara: Elizabeth Arden Grand Entrance Mascara
I had a couple of these kicking around. I had started using this one back in December on my lower lashes only. I had lash extensions for my vacation at the time so I didn’t have a big need for a  mascara at the time. This one is not bad but it’s not my favourite. I did get racoon eyes sometimes so I wasn’t too impressed. I will likely swap or sell the other one that I have.

Mascara: Guerlain Maxi Lash Intense Volume Mascara
I had this sample that I was really curious about. I started using this in January and immediately after I started using it, I stopped using the Elizabeth Arden one mentioned above. While that one didn’t impress, the Guerlain Maxi Lash was a huge win for me! I love the wand. It’s not too big for my eyes. The bristles are small but I found that it worked really well with my lashes! This mascara added length and volume and I was so impressed with it. I love this sample so much that when I redeemed Shoppers Optimum points a few weeks back, I made sre to get one of these. I really hope the full size is just as good as the sample!

The Keepers

Moving on to the next category: The Keepers. These are the products that I love (or at the very least like) enough to keep it and use it at a future time.

shop my stash - january and february

Eye Primer:  Too Faced Shadow Insurance
This is pretty much my Holy Grail eye primer. This tube has been in use since October… I use it just about every day but since it’s an eye primer, I don’t need very much of it. I love how light it feels on my skin and it does such an amazing job at making my eyeshadow stay put! I have never had any issues with my eye makeup when I use this product. I’m just about done this tube and will be carrying it into March so hopefully it will turn into an empty.

Foundation/BB Cream: IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Color Correcting Full Coverage Cream + Anti-Aging Hydrating Serum + SPF50 in Tan
I picked this up from Ulta when I was in Florida two November’s ago. I picked it up in the shade Tan and can only use it when I’m… well… tanned. 😉 Which means this gets used the most in the summer or if I’m on a winter vacation somewhere tropical. The only reason why I can use this right now is because I was in Hawaii a few months ago. I really do like this foundation! Not only does it have a nice lemon scent, it also provides you with SPF 50. I love it when foundations contain sun protection! This foundation has a thick consistency but because of that, I find that  a little goes a long, long way! This is a medium to full coverage foundation that you can build but I don’t find it to be too heavy or sticky on my face. Love this one! Definitely a keeper. 🙂

Foundation/BB Cream:  NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer in St. Moritz
I do adore this BB cream! It provides light to medium coverage and feels so light on my skin. It’s not at all cakey and it doesn’t feel heavy. I love the convenience of this travel size (which proved to be my go-to during my last trip) and I think you do actually get more bang for your buck on this smaller tube than you would purchasing the full size. ($55 CAD for 1.9 oz vs $19 CAD for .58 oz) However, this only works if you use the St. Moritz shade because this is the only one available in the travel size. Either way, I don’t have many BB creams on my radar right now and since I’m so happy with this one, that’s totally okay. The only downside I found? This doesn’t have any sun protection. If it had that, it would be absolutely perfect!

Foundation/BB Cream: Neutrogena Healthy Skin Liquid Makeup SPF  20 in Fresh Beige
Not gonna lie, this is my fave foundation right now so it was a no brainer that I was keeping it! This has a nice medium coverage and it feels super light on my skin… like it’s not even there! Fresh Beige is the perfect shade for me right now but next time I go to the US, I will have to pick up a shade lighter for when I’m not tanned. It doesn’t oxide on me and lasts all day. It really doesn’t budge at all when I use a setting powder and spray with it. Plus, it has sun protection in the tune of SPF 20 so that is pretty great too. Honestly, everything about this makes it perfect for me! I’m sad we done get Neutrogena makeup in Canada. This product makes me wonder what else I’m missing out on from this brand.

Concealer:  COVERGIRL Outlast All-Day Concealer in Light
Still one of my favourite drugstore concealers to date! It gives me great coverage without being cakey. I have already raved about this extensively when I reviewed it so I will just leave a link to that post here.

Concealer: Maybelline Superstay Better Skin Concealer in Light/Medium
I am having pretty darn good luck with drugstore concealers lately. I really like this one too! It feels even lighter than the COVERGIRL one but I find that the coverage still works for me. Great for under your eyes and any dark spots. I will definitely continue to use this!

shop my stash - january and february

Eyeliner: IT Cosmetics No-Tug Waterproof Gel Eyeliner
I don’t often use pencil or gel liners because I find they don’t work as well as liquid liners with my hooded eyes. But this one is okay! So I will keep it. It doesn’t really smudge like all the others I have tried.

Eyeliner: Ciate Fierce Flicks Liquid Eyeliner
I’m very surprised at how much I like this! It’s easy to use, dries great, and doesn’t budge as the day goes on! I have been using this a lot… just about every day… since December that I just about completely wore out all the silver writing on the tube! Now what does that tell you???

Eyeshadow Primer: Elizabeth Mott Thank Me Later Eye Shadow Primer
I haven’t even tried this yet so I will keep it and give it a fighting chance in march when my Too Faced one runs out!

Face Primer: MAKE Moonlight Primer
Also a nice surprise! At first I really wasn’t sure about it because it was so dark but in the end it does go on clear and I ended up liking it. I really like how it also moisturizes. This is a keeper but I will be using it sparingly because I’m not sure where I can get more. That’s just fear of running out on my part.

Highlighter: Benefit Watts Up! Softfocus Highlighter for Face
This will always be a fave of mine! It is super easy to use and just gives me the perfect glow in just the right spots. I swear, though, this deluxe sized sample is lasting me forever! We are almost going on years  here.

Blush: Wet n Wild Color Icon Blusher in Pearlescent Pink
This is a great colour and this is a great blush! It is very pigmented so you can build it up if you want more colour. Keeping this one in my collection.

Blush: Mellow Face Blush in Bronze
A fave for sure! I am surprised that I like this bronze blush as much as I do but it really is great. When my skinis darker, this adds a very natural look on my cheeks. I imagine this would also make a nice matte bronzer for those with fairer skin.

Mascara Primer: Wet n Wild PhotoFocus Lash Primer
I like this. It does a great job prepping my lashes before I apply mascara and my mascara does stay put! I can’t get this at our local stores yet so I’m also keeping it due to how difficult it is to get here.

Setting Spray: Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray
Holy grail. I have been using this on and off for years now and I always go back to it! I can’t help it… it does a great job at keeping my makeup from smudging and makes it last all day long. Great stuff!

Eyeshadows: tarte Tartelette Palette, Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette, ColourPop Super Shock Shadow in Alchemy
I am just going to talk about all three of these together because I love them all! The tarte Tartelette Palette is made up of some really great neutral matte shades that you can use every day and for any occasion. The Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette has such great colours and a mix of matte, shimmer and glitter shades that you can use to make so many looks! This is such a versatile palette. I just love it! And of course, the ColourPop Super Shock Shadow in Alchemy give any eye look that added sparkle. I use it for all my looks, all the time. I’m so glad I bought backups because I actually hit pan! Here’s a quick look at my usage for each one.

The Rejects

Finally! We have looked at the empties and the loves. Now it’s time for the rejects that I will not be keeping. Other than empties, this is just another way I’m going to use to downsize my collection.

shop my stash - january and february

Face Primer: Too Faced Primed & Poreless Pure Oil-Free Skin Smoothing Face Primer
I must say, I just love Too Faced primers! This one, though, is one I think that I have a love-hate relationship with. This is the sensitive skin version which performs just as well as the regular one but I find this one is a bit thicker. It does makes my foundation stay in place but compared to the other one, this one made my skin a bit more oily. I will definitely continue using this deluxe sample until it’s all gone but I’m not too sure if I would purchase it again.

Colour Correction: Make Up Forever Step 1 Redness Correcting Primer
I rarely reached for this at all. I’m not sure why. Maybe colour correction just isn’t my thing? I mean, I forgot about it all the time! As a result, I didn’t use it very much so it’s time to move on.

Pore Reducer: Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser
I have been using this for a long time now. Almost two years? And it still hasn’t run out! It does do a good job but I feel like I’m tired of it and that I need a change. I will finish this until it’s gone but I won’t be repurchasing anytime soon. It’s time for a break!

Highlighter: City Color Highlight Trio
This highlighter trio was okay. It did the job and isn’t too overly sparkly. Don’t get me wrong, this wasn’t a bad product but I have so many other highlighters that I love more.

Brows: Annabelle Brow-To-Go Brow Shaping Kit
Great product but I have had this one for a long time now and it’s getting super messy up to the point where it’s not worth cleaning up. I have another one and other brow products I love so it’s okay for me to let this one go.

Brows: IT Cosmetics Brow Power Universal Eyebrow Pencil
Again, this one was just okay. It did a good job but it also didn’t make me go “wow!” as much as I wanted it to. I was disappointed because there’s been so much praise for this brow product but it was just okay for me. I will finish this one up but I don’t think I will repurchase it.

That’s all folks! If you made it this far, thanks for sticking with me! When I started this endeavor, I didn’t realize how much of a recap I had to do at the end so I will admit, it did take longer than I had expected to post this.

I’m happy with the amount of empties I ended up with (that would be five) and the number of products I decided I could do without (six of ’em). That’s a pretty good start for destashing and using up products in 2017! Looks like the first month and a half was a success so I will keep tally and keep going.

Now we’re well into March so keep a lookout for my March Shop My Stash list this weekend!

Enjoy the rest of your week. 🙂

Unboxing + Review: Topbox January 2017 and $10 Beauty Surprise

Topbox January 2017

Here we are again!  It’s time for another Topbox unboxing! I chose the Regular Topbox in January because none of the Prive boxes looked appealing to me… again. Oh well. I also opted in for a $10 Beauty Surprise that I was hoping was going to be amazing. But until you get it, you don’t really know… so all I could do is throw my money at them and cross my fingers!

January’s Topbox came with four items PLUS a bonus! Bonus items are always great! Now, let’s go through each of the products in the box.

  • MaskerAid SPOTTED! Anti-Blemish Clear Spot Patches ($6.25 CAD, two sheets): this is an interesting product. These patches are mant to be applied on blemishes for 8 to 12 hours or overnight. They help minimize the look of pimples, absorbs oil and calms redness. It’s formulation includes salicylic acid, volcanic ash and tea tree oil. I personally use tea tree oil on my blemishes and it works for me so this has some promise. I will have to give this product a try.
  • Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat ($2.56 CAD, 3.6 ml): now, how did Topbox know that I was in the market for a new topcoat? I have heard of Seche Vite before and I would like to try it. Perhaps next time I do my nails. This one is said to be “Guaranteed not to yellow while leaving nails silky, stronger and resistant to chipping and peeling.”
  • Voesh New York Pedi Mud Masque in Olive Sensation ($7.99 CAD, 3 x 20 g packets): when I first took these out of the organza bag, I seriously thought these were a face mask. But no… this mask is for your feet! I haven’t tried a foot mask before, nor have I ever heard of this brand before. My feet aren’t in too bad of shape right now. This may best be saved for the summer when I’m living in sandals of flip flops which is when my feet usually take a beating and I am in need of a pedi, stat! That’s when my feet will really need some TLC.
  • Bella Aura Skincare Gentle Purifying Cleanser ($4.50 CAD, 10 ml): Another Bella Aura product. This time I received a cleanser.  I am actually quite tired of seeing this brand in my Topbox.. yes, I understand I’m getting  a different product each time but I am not a fan of the scent of the products I have already received so what makes me think this is going to be different? This is a pass for me.

Quite honestly, getting a bonus item in a beauty box is quite awesome! And is it crazy that, out of everything I receive in January, it was the bonus freebie that I was most excited about?

I received a trave sized bottle of Garnier All-in-One Micellar Water ($2.50 CAD, 125 ml). I already use this product and I love it! I have been using this (and the Simple one) instead of Bioderma lately and I’m not looking back! It is much more cost effective and it works just as well. I love how I have a travel sized bottle now! I wonder if this was included as an intro to consumers because they are finally selling the smaller bottles of this now? Whatever the reason, I am happy to have received this.

As I mentioned before, I also got a $10 Beauty Surprise. I received the DDM Liquid Lipstick in the shade Rich Bitch ($12.00 CAD). I have never heard of DDM before so I’m not sure as to the quality of their products. This liquid lipstick is not exactly a high value item but on the bright side, at least I received a colour I can actually wear. Rich Bitch looks to be a reddish brown colour. The formulation is thicker and very pigmented. I haven’t truly tested this for wear yet. I have seen other people receive the black shade… of which I really would have no use for. So I guess that’s okay. I really wish it was a higher value item, ,though. This is really just a savings of around 16%. That’s not a lot.

So there you have it! That’s all for January. Nothing overly exciting but I do love the micellar water. I’m back in limbo again. The question “Do I keep subscribing or do I try something new now?” has popped into my head the last month or two again. We’ll see how long I will continue on with this subscription. Nothing is really wowing me as of late which is unfortunate because this is a Canadian company and I really do want to keep supporting them!

I have already received my February Topbox so stay tuned for that unboxing coming soon!

Hope you are all having a wonderful weekend!
