Unboxing + Review: ipsy July 2017 Over Easy

ipsy July 2017

ipsy summers are ultra chill… or in the case of July’s bag, it’s just Over Easy.

Over Easy is the them for July and the bag features Gudetama, and over easy egg. Gudetama was created by Sanrio, the same brains behind Hello Kitty, Keroppi and other cute characters. Gudetama looks a little sad, though. I’m don’t know why. He really shouldn’t be! I love Sanrio characters and have loved them since I was a pre-teen and there were still Sanrio stores around here. I’ll give this sad egg a chance. ๐Ÿ™‚

ipsy July 2017

But right now, let’s see what was in the bag!

ipsy July 2017 trestique

The first item I received was the treStiQue Mini Concealer Crayon in Bisque (price and size of product is unknown). Now how handy and convenient is this? A concealer pencil that’s super portable! This concealer has a creamy texture that provides medium to full coverage. It is coconut-infused making it hydrating for those who have dry undereyes. I’m glad I received this. ๐Ÿ™‚

ipsy July 2017 seraphine botanicals

Next, we have the Seraphine Botanicals Ginger + Gold Peach & Gold Frosting Blush ($14.00 USD, 3 g). This is so so so my colour! So it’s safe to say that I’m happy about it! This is a nice smooth blush with ginger, lychee, mangosteen and chamomile extracts. Because of these ingredients, you can smell it in the pan but not when you apply it. I also love that it’s mineral oil, paraben and phthalates free. It’s also hypo-allergenic so my sensitive skin is thankful! Love this blush!

ipsy July 2017 modicum

I also received the Modicum Essential Serum ($12.50 USD, 5 ml). I have always been uncertain about oils on my skin. More often than not, I end up breaking out a bit. The tarte one is probably the only exception. This serum is packed chock full of oils and it’s plant based so it’s said to be great for problematic skin. It also has anti-aging benefits. They also say that it has healing properties for chronic skin problems like eczema and psoriasis. It does have a strong scent, though, and I’m not a fan so that, in addition to it being an “uncertain oil”, I think I will take a pass.

ipsy July 2017 tarte cosmetics

This next one is fun – the tarte cosmetics Rainforest of the Sea Deep Dive Cleansing Gel ($1.50 CAD, 7.5 ml) is an excellent cleanser. How do I know this? Because I have already used it before! It is super great for cleansing makeup and it’s really gentle, too. And if you don’t like strong scents, this is great because it’s super subtle. I am going to save this small travel sized bottle for my next vacation. It’s great for travel. ๐Ÿ™‚

ipsy July 2017 bellapierre cosmetics

Last item! And it’s quite intriguing. It is the Bellapierre Cosmetics Banana Setting Powder ($35.00 USD, 4 g)! I gotta admit… I’ve always been curious about banana powders for colour correction and this is the first time I’ve gotten my hands on one so I’m super excited about it! Also, this is a full sized product so that’s pretty great!  I haven’t tried it yet because I’ve been trying to get through my current concealer in my Shop My Stash basket but I’m going to have to try it soon. I will try it to set my makeup under my eyes maybe. I hope it works well!

That’s it for July’s bag. The overall value for this month is $78.94 CAD at the very least… I’m not sure what the value of the treStiQue concealer is… but that’s still pretty good! Considering I like every item except the serum, the bag is worth it this month.

I’m still waiting for my August ipsy to come in the mail so it will be a little while yet before that unboxing but I hope to get it up sooner than later!

Shop My Stash: August 2017

shop my stash august 2017

Wow! It’s pretty much mid-August now! Where has the summer gone???

Before I post my recap from July later this week, here is my August Shop My Stash basket. Just for the record, while this post is coming a bit late, I have been using the products in this basket since August 1st. ๐Ÿ™‚

What is a Shop My Stash?

Itโ€™s exactly what it sounds like. Every month, I will be going into my makeup collection and โ€“ you guessed it โ€“ I will shop my stash. ? Just think of it as a haul post but instead of makeup I bought at Sephora or at Shoppers Drug Mart, itโ€™s a haul straight from my own collection! And Iโ€™m hoping that by doing this monthly, I wonโ€™t get bored of the products I chose like I did in last yearโ€™s Project Pan.

If youโ€™re interested, you can find my other Shop My Stash posts here.

How Shop My Stash Works

Every month I will take one or two of these types of products and put them in a basket.

*Please note, at times, I will not have some items in my basket. The reason why is stated next to the category.

  • Face primer
  • Color correction (None, no need for color correction right now)
  • Concealer
  • Foundation / BB Cream
  • Blush
  • Highlighter
  • Bronzer (None, itโ€™s summer and my skin is too dark for bronzer. We will revisit in fall/winter)
  • Setting powder
  • Pore reducer (Success! None, retired category. I only have one product left: Benefit POREfessional)
  • Eye primer
  • Eye shadow (palette or singles)
  • Eyeliner
  • Brow
  • Brow setting gel (Success! None, retired category. I only have one product left: MAC Brow Set in Clear)
  • Mascara primer (None, I don’t have one at the moment.)
  • Mascara
  • Setting Spray (Success! None, retired category. I only have three products left in rotation: MAC, Urban Decay and Maybelline setting sprays)

If you havenโ€™t noticed, I did not include any lip products (lipstick, lipgloss, etc.) to my list. This is because they are already in rotation in my purse. I change them around a lot so I didnโ€™t think they needed special attention like the rest of these products!

At the end of each month I will have to make a few decisions: keep the product, continue using it (for those holy grail products I must always use) or get rid of it. Iโ€™m hoping that by doing this I can help identify my loves and get rid of what I donโ€™t want anymore. I hope that I can get my collection under control.

Donโ€™t get me wrong, though. I am not going to be limited to only using whatโ€™s in my basket. If thereโ€™s something I want to use then by all means, I will! The basket is just there to help give me something to focus on that month.

Then at the end of the month, I will summarize my monthly basket (what I loved, what I didnโ€™t love, etc.) and then I will pick out a new basket of products!

Without further adieu, here are the contents of August’s basket!

Shop My Stash for August 2017

As I go through my collection, there is less categories to concentrate on – which is great! Because it means that at the very least, those categories are under control… which is the goal of this exercise, no? Anyways, with Pore Reducers, Brow Setting Gels and Setting Sprays out of the way, here’s what I selected for August.

Unboxing + Review: FabFitFun Summer 2017

fabfitfun summer 2017

Hello Summer! That is the perfect headline so FabFitFun got it right! The Summer FabFitFun box is chock full of items that scream summer! I was super excited to receive my Summer box because the spoilers made it super hard to resist. Just so many amazing things… you’ll see!

FabFitFun is a seasonal lifestyle subscription box that contains everything from beauty to fitness items. Honestly one of my favourite subscriptions because I haven’t unsubscribed to this one yet like I did for so many others already! If you would like to try this subscription, please use my link here.

fabfitfun summer 2017

Before we begin this unboxing, can I just say that this box looks amazing? Because it does! And bonus points for being purple because that’s my favourite colour! ๐Ÿ˜‰

fabfitfun summer 2017

fabfitfun summer 2017

Every FabFitFun box comes with a magazine and this time around, it came in the form of a newspaper. Within this newspaper, you get the details of all the products in the Summer box plus many articles that are relevant to the items you receive. As usual, there are the items that everyone gets in one variation or another and then there are the Choice items that you get to choose based on some vague hints. But before we take a look at those Choice items, let’s take a peek at the stuff that is found in each and every Summer box.

fabfitfun summer 2017 michael stars ruana

fabfitfun summer 2017 michael stars ruana

Let’s start with the Michael Stars Ruana ($54.00 USD). If you are like me, you are probably asking “So… what is a ruana?”. Forgive me! While I’m in the loop with beauty, fashion is not my forte! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Well, I did some research and essentially a ruana is a poncho-style garment originally from the Andes region of Venezuela. It has so much versatility because you can wear it as a scarf, sarong or even a shawl. Check out the many different ways you can wear it in this video by FabFitFun. I received the blue colour variation (there are three patterns and colours available) and it feels so soft and light! I’m going to have to experiment with this one.

fabfitfun summer 2017 bkr bottle

Next, I received the BKR Little (500 ml) Water Bottle ($35.00 USD). To be perfectly honest, I have wanted one of these for a long time now so imagine my excitement when I saw that this was included in my box! I received the pink bottle (which is also available in blue). It’s a glass water bottle that is so cute. I will definitely be using this at work! I need to get a carabiner so I can use the cap loop to hook it on to my bag.

fabfitfun summer 2017 cargo hd highlighter

I also received a makeup item in my bag and being the highlighter junkie that I am, I was glad to see it! The Cargo HD Picture Perfect Highlighter in Bronze ($30.00 USD) is beautiful! I love that is’ a compact with a mirror. It’s going to be great for travel! The consistency of this highlighter feels very smooth and it looks very pigmented. You can apply it lightly or really build up that shine! Looking forward to using this!

fabfitfun summer 2017 juice beauty

The Juice Beauty Smoothing Eye Concentrate ($29.00 USD) is probably what I was least excited about. I haven’t been a big fan of the Juice Beauty products that I have tried in the past. Granted, I’ve only tried their Green Apple line which this product is not a part of. Instead, it contains grape, aloe and carrot juice so I may actually like it. It’s worth a try. We shall see!

fabfitfun summer 2017 avene

Another skincare product I received was the Avene Ultra-Light Hydrating Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50+ ($24.00 USD). Perfect for summer! You always need a sunscreen to protect your skin from harmful UVA/UVB rays. This one is great for sensitive skin and is lightweight enough to use on your face. I’m sure I will be using this product! It’s super practical, in my opinion.

fabfitfun summer 2017 kris nations

fabfitfun summer 2017 kris nations

The next one is so pretty! I received the turquoise Kris Nations Mystic Bar Necklace ($58.00 USD). Turquoise promotes balance, discovery and confidence. Fort he record, this was missing from my box when I first received it so I was super disappointed. But I contacted their Customer Service right away and they were very quick in sending out a replacement! I received it about a week after… which is pretty good considering the box itself seems to take forever and a day to get to Canada sometimes! I’m so glad they sent it right away because I love this! The necklace came in a cute glass jar and ti’s so delicate. I’m glad I receive the turquoise one because it goes with pretty much most of my wardrobe. I can definitely see myself wearing this necklace a lot! I love it! Probably my fave item from this season’s box.

fabfitfun summer 2017

This last one is a sponsored freebie. The Vital Proteins Marie Collagen is an unflavoured drink mix. It is drinkable collagen (first I have ever heard of this!) that can be added to pretty much any hot or cold drink. It is gluten free, sugar free and non-GMO. And again, there is a card that gives you 3 months of free access to Salted. Salted has cooking classes videos and recipes. There’s something for the chefs out there! If you like cooking, you can take advantage of this code.

And now on to the Choice items! The Summer Box came with two Choice items and I gotta admit, I like having the opportunity to choose something… and it’s even better that it’s still a surprise!

fabfitfun summer 2017 salted

fabfitfun summer 2017 salted

For Choice 1, you got to choose between the following themes: traveler, artist and chef. While I do love to travel and do artsy things (I mean, paint night anyone???), I chose the Chef option. Boy, was I ever glad that I did! I received the Salted Himalayan Pink Salt Kit ($26.00 USD). It comes as a small block of himalayan salt and includes a wooden stand that you can display it on when you put it in your kitchen. A small metal grater was also included and the wooden stand has a spot for that, as well. It’s said that Himalayan pink salt is bet used to sprinkle on top of your food to finish dishes. This is such a unique item! I love it! To cover all our bases, the Artist choice would have been a Ready, Set, Creat! Art Kit which includes a canvas, brushes, acrylic paints and an alphabet stencil and the Traveler choice would have been an Understated Leather On The Road Again Travel Set which contains a passport cover and luggage tag.

fabfitfun summer 2017 klorane

For Choice 2, you got to choose between the following themes: fitness and beauty. I went with Beauty, of course! I received the Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk ($20.00 CAD). I have tried this before because I received a travel size of this product in one of my previous Topbox’s. I really liked it so having a full sized can is great! Just an FYI – choosing Fitness would have gotten you the Way of Will 03 Soothe and Cool Massage Oil.

So that’s it! That’s all for my Summer FabFit Fun box! The value of my box, including the two Choice items I received, came to $276.00 USD (which comes to a whopping $343.00 CAD in today’s exchange rate!) which is amazing! While it doesn’t appear to have as many items as previous boxes, the value is still very much there and because I received many great items that I will be using, it’s totally worth it for me!

What was your fave from this season’s box? Were you happy with your choices? I love seeing my readers thoughts in the comments! ๐Ÿ™‚

Unboxing + Review: ipsy April 2017 Side Show

ipsy glam bag april 2017

April’s ipsy glam bag is your ticket in to the show. Literally. The bag is a shaped like a ticket! ๐Ÿ™‚

The theme for April’s bag is Side Show. It represents fun – like having fun at the arcade, having fun on the rides and just having fun in general.

While the bag itself is unique and cute, it does lack storage space in that it’s not the ipsy bag that would hold the most stuff. It is more about how it looks than it is practical, in my opinion. Still super cute, though. It would make a great conversation starter if you use it as a clutch!

ipsy glam bag April 2017

Moving on, let’s take a look at the items I received in my bag.

The first item in my glam bag also embodies the “fun” vibe. The Glamour Dolls x Lisa Frank Angle Blush Brush ($5.00 USD) has unicorns and rainbows on it. This seems to be the “in thing” with a lot of companies nowadays, especially with unicorns, so I feel like this brush is very current. And the whole Lisa Frank think is totally a throwback to my childhood. I grew up loving Lisa Frank products and often saw the Lisa Frank ads in my Archie comic books and digests. I used to collect the stickers, buy stationery for school… the handle on this brush is just so nostalgic for me! The brush itself has very soft bristles with rose gold on the handle. So cute! This would be a great brush, not only for blush, but for power highlighters and bronzers, as well.

ipsy glam bag April 2017 Glamour Dolls Lisa Frank

Next up, we have the Adesse New York Cupuacu Butter Lip Balm ($24.00 USD, 3 g) – and it is indeed full sized! Being the lip balm junking that I am, I was happy to see this. I have never heard of the brand Adesse before so I’m looking forward to trying it. The site says that this lip balm will smooth, moisturize and hydrate your lips. It looks two-toned but it’s mostly sheer and the centre core is “infused with cold pressed Cupaucu Butter”. The ginger mint scent is subtle but not my favourite. I find lip butters to be more moisturizing than just simple lip balms so I’m curious to see if that’s the case with this one.

ipsy glam bag April 2017 Adesse

Now how cute is this packaging? I recieved the Ciate London Mini Bamboo Bronzer in the shade Palm Island ($8.00 USD, 0.1 oz). Stars and a bow – what can I say? I am a sucker for cute packaging! ๐Ÿ™‚ Palm Island is a mid to dark bronze. I think this shade should work on me… as long as I’m not super tanned. It feels silky to the touch and is lightweight. What I really like about this is that it’s a matte bronzer. There’s now glitter or shimmer or anything. I also love how it comes in a mini size. i can definitely keep it in my camping makeup bag and use it for travel in general.

ipsy glam bag April 2017 Ciate

ipsy glam bag April 2017

This one I am super curious about. The Jesse’s Girl Liquid Eyeliner in Black ($6.99 USD, 1 ml) says it is Japanese made on the packaging and I’ve had great success with some Asian eyeliners in the past. It has a super thin, super precise tip which is what I usually use with liquid liners so this is right up my alley! Reminds me a bit of my holy grail Kat Von D Tattoo Liner that I adore. I haven’t tried it yet because I currently still have one KVD and an Essence eyeliner that I’m using but I will certainly try this one in the future. I hope it works well.

ipsy glam bag April 2017 Jesse's Girl

ipsy glam bag April 2017 Jesse's Girl

The last item in my bag was the Avene Rich Compensating Cream ($3.50 USD, 5 ml). I am a big fan of Avene moisturizers and this one would have been very handy this past winter when my face felt drier than usual. This is a richer, thicker moisturizer that is said to melt into your skin to soothe and nourish it. It doesn’t hurt to keep a product like this around if you tend to have dry skin at times. I’m sure I will be using it at some point in time.

ipsy glam bag April 2017 Avene

And there we have it. The total value of my April ipsy glam bag was $47.49 USD which makes it around $65 CAD at today’s exchange rate. That’s not bad.

This wasn’t my absolute favourite bag but it was still pretty good. I will be using pretty much everything I received so that’s always a plus!

What was in your April glam bag?

Until next time, friends!

Unboxing + Review: ipsy March 2017 Tres Jolie

ipsy March 2017 ofra city color tarte skone cosmetics first aid beauty

It’s April! How did we already get to April? I know they say time goes by faster when you get older but this is ridiculous! Time seriously needs to slow down a bit or something!

The weather here is finally getting warmer which is great because I’m pretty much over the whole winter thing. What I’m really happy about right now is that I am all caught up in my blogosphere! It feels so good to be caught up. My March subscriptions are up next on the blog – starting with ipsy.

The theme for March’s ipsy glam bag was Tres Jolie which translates to Very Pretty in French. (Ha! Those French classes in junior high paid off after all!) But as you can see her, the bag is also… well… very pretty. Why? Because of these three things:

  1. It has a cool new design that you’ll flip for,
  2. It makes us soooo psyched for spring,
  3. It’s a chic, pale pink shade (that’s totally on trend).

So there you go. Straight from the ipsy site. Now you know.

ipsy March 2017

ipsy March 2017

But seriously, how adorable is this bag? I love that it can be a large makeup bag or a fold-over clutch. That is very practical and useful, in my opinion! This would be so great for travel, especially since it does double duty. Pack all your things and if you’re headed out for a night out, just dump all your makeup and use it as a clutch! PERFECT!

Also, how awesome is this month’s card? It’s a great reminder to us all and it’s so true. Always remember that!

ipsy March 2017

Moving on, let’s take a look at the contents of my March bag. I tell ya, ipsy’s got me all figured out! Let’s get started.

The first item we will look at is the Skone Cosmetics Luxe Pro Blending Brush ($15.00 USD). From the looks of it, this brush is from Skone’s new Luxe Pro Brush line. This blender brush has a fluffy, rounded head that’s made of synthetic hairs (described as professional grade nylon by the folks at Skone) and topped off with beautiful rose gold accents. I will say that this brush is so soft! Also, it’s a bonus that it’s rose gold… because really, rose gold is ‘in’ now. I am a big fan of blending brushes so I’m totally okay with adding one more to my collection! And honestly, you can never have too many brushes! Right? Who’s with me? ๐Ÿ™‚

ipsy March 2017 Skone Cosmetics Blending Brush

ipsy March 2017 Skone Cosmetics Blending Brush

This next one is intriguing – the First Aid Beauty (FAB) Ultra Repair Face Moisturizer ($6.00 CAD, 9.6 g). It’s intriguing because I feel like I have used this before, years and years ago, and if it is the same thing then I remember loving it a lot. I never repurchased it because I had a big tub of the FAB Ultra Repair Cream that I used as a face moisturizer at the time because my face was super dry and I was dealing with some patches of eczema too. FAB really is a great brand and I have really enjoyed their products (heck, I have their Face Cleanser in my shower right now!) so I loved seeing this in my bag. Time to rediscover (what I think is) and oldie but a goodie!

ipsy March 2017 First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Face Moisturizer

Continuing on, I also received the City Color Cosmetics Photo Chic Dark Spot Corrector ($3.99 USD, 4 g). I can definitely use this on those days where my eyes give away exactly how tired I am! This is a peach concealer which will help disguise those under eye circles. I haven’t tried this yet so I can’t say much about the consistency and coverage but it does look promising.

I love receiving this brand in my subscriptions because it is one of the only ways of getting this brand without having to pay a lot to ship it to Canada! I received the Peach Blush from OFRA Cosmetics ($15.00 USD, 4 g) which I think is great because I love the brand and I haven’t tried any of their blushes yet. Glad I am finally get the chance to now! It’s a nice peach colour and it’s so pretty. I do love that it’s just the pan so I will be adding it into my magnetic palette which is perfect!

ipsy March 2017 OFRA Peach Blush

ipsy March 2017 OFRA Peach Blush

And last but not least! I received the Tarte Cosmetics tarteist Quick Dry Matte Lip Paint in the shade Delish ($4.00 CAD, 1 ml). Delish is described as a rosy mauve which falls into line with colours I usually love so it’s the perfect colour choice for me! I love it because it’s neutral enough to wear every day but still has a hint of rose in it. I find that this matte liquid lipstick feels comfortable on my lips and it isn’t as drying as others I’ve tried int he past. It is super pigmented too. I would love to try more shades!

Like what you see here? For those of you who would like to give this a try and would like to know more, this subscription is $10.00 USD  a month in the US and $10.00 USD + $4.00 USD shipping for Canadians. You get a mix of skincare, makeup and haircare deluxe and full sized products. And you get a different style of bag each month. If you are interested in trying this subscription, please use my link. ?

So that was it for March’s glam bag. I quite loved what I received! They were all pretty much hits with no misses and they will all get used at some point. What was your fave product from the March bag? ๐Ÿ™‚

Have a wonderful weekend, starpixel friends! ๐Ÿ™‚
