Unboxing + Review: ipsy May 2017 Summer Friday

ipsy may 2017

Are you ready for summer? I sure am! And May’s glam bag is just the thing one needs to kickstart their summer season.

Titled Summer Friday, May’s glam bag is so cute and proper. It features ice cream and popsicles and is waterproof. It screams summer and is perfect for the pool, the beach and other summer activities!

ipsy may 2017

I received a good mix of products in May. Let’s take a look!

ipsy may 2017 benefit cosmetics gimme brow

The first item in my bag was the Benefit Cosmetics gimme brow volumizing fiber gel in the shade 5 ($10.67 CAD, 1 g). I used to love gimme brow. The old version. I’m not sure if they changed the formulation of this when they changed the packaging but I have tried this new version before but it didn’t work out too well for me. The skin around my brows became super dry. I couldn’t tell if it was an allergic reaction or if it just dried out my skin. I don’t know if I received old product… so I’m a bit pensive. I’m not sure if I will try this again. I have heard that it has worked wonders for others, though!

ipsy may 2017 hempz

Next we have the Hempz Pomegranate Herbal Body Moisturizer ($7.50 CAD, 2.25 oz). This is a nice sized sample and smells heavenly! I will definitely be trying this one out.

ipsy may 2017 trestique

The trestique Mini Matte Lip Crayon I received what in the shade Tuscan Wine ($10.67 USD, 0.025 oz). I’m not sure about this colour. I don’t often use colours this dark and dramatic. While I love the formulation (I have other shades of this product), I think I am going to pass on this shade. This doesn’t quite work with my day-to-day work and weekend looks. It would be nice, though, if I were going glam… which doesn’t happen often.

ipsy may 2017 luxie

ipsy may 2017 luxie

This next product is great – Luxie Beauty’s Dreamcatcher Precision Foundation Brush 660 ($30.91 USD). This brush can be used to apply liquid, cream or powder foundations, concealers, highlighters and bronzers. I absolutely adore my other Luxie brushes so I’m happy to add this to my collection. They feel so soft and work so well. Plus, the handle colour of the Dreamcatcher line is beautiful!

ipsy may 2017 kvossnyc

The final product in my May glam bag is the KVossNYC Macaroon Lip Balm in Light Cream ($14.00 USD, 0.25 oz). Being the self-proclaimed lip balm junkie that I am, I always welcome a new lip balm to try! It smells sweet and it’s supposed to be very moisturizing. Looking forward to trying this. πŸ™‚

So that’s it for this month! The total value of my May ipsy glam bag was roughly $92.00 CAD based on today’s exchange rate. That’s not bad at all! The unfortunate part is that I don’t love all the products. Aside from the body lotion, brush and lip balm, I am not a fan of the other products. That’s the risk you take with these beauty subscriptions!

ipsy may 2017

This is my final remaining monthly subscription. The remainder of my subscriptions are all seasonal. I’m okay with that, though, because I do need to downsize my collection badly. Subscriptions can really pile up! Oh well, I am still enjoying my ipsy bag. I love at least having one sub to surprise me every month. πŸ™‚

Like what you see here? For those of you who would like to give this a try and would like to know more, this subscription is $10.00 USD  a month in the US and $10.00 USD + $4.00 USD shipping for Canadians. If you are interested in trying this subscription, please use my link here. πŸ™‚

Unboxing + Review: ipsy April 2017 Side Show

ipsy glam bag april 2017

April’s ipsy glam bag is your ticket in to the show. Literally. The bag is a shaped like a ticket! πŸ™‚

The theme for April’s bag is Side Show. It represents fun – like having fun at the arcade, having fun on the rides and just having fun in general.

While the bag itself is unique and cute, it does lack storage space in that it’s not the ipsy bag that would hold the most stuff. It is more about how it looks than it is practical, in my opinion. Still super cute, though. It would make a great conversation starter if you use it as a clutch!

Moving on, let’s take a look at the items I received in my bag.

The first item in my glam bag also embodies the “fun” vibe. The Glamour Dolls x Lisa Frank Angle Blush Brush ($5.00 USD) has unicorns and rainbows on it. This seems to be the “in thing” with a lot of companies nowadays, especially with unicorns, so I feel like this brush is very current. And the whole Lisa Frank think is totally a throwback to my childhood. I grew up loving Lisa Frank products and often saw the Lisa Frank ads in my Archie comic books and digests. I used to collect the stickers, buy stationery for school… the handle on this brush is just so nostalgic for me! The brush itself has very soft bristles with rose gold on the handle. So cute! This would be a great brush, not only for blush, but for power highlighters and bronzers, as well.

Next up, we have the Adesse New York Cupuacu Butter Lip Balm ($24.00 USD, 3 g) – and it is indeed full sized! Being the lip balm junking that I am, I was happy to see this. I have never heard of the brand Adesse before so I’m looking forward to trying it. The site says that this lip balm will smooth, moisturize and hydrate your lips. It looks two-toned but it’s mostly sheer and the centre core is “infused with cold pressed Cupaucu Butter”. The ginger mint scent is subtle but not my favourite. I find lip butters to be more moisturizing than just simple lip balms so I’m curious to see if that’s the case with this one.

Now how cute is this packaging? I recieved the Ciate London Mini Bamboo Bronzer in the shade Palm Island ($8.00 USD, 0.1 oz). Stars and a bow – what can I say? I am a sucker for cute packaging! πŸ™‚ Palm Island is a mid to dark bronze. I think this shade should work on me… as long as I’m not super tanned. It feels silky to the touch and is lightweight. What I really like about this is that it’s a matte bronzer. There’s now glitter or shimmer or anything. I also love how it comes in a mini size. i can definitely keep it in my camping makeup bag and use it for travel in general.

This one I am super curious about. The Jesse’s Girl Liquid Eyeliner in Black ($6.99 USD, 1 ml) says it is Japanese made on the packaging and I’ve had great success with some Asian eyeliners in the past. It has a super thin, super precise tip which is what I usually use with liquid liners so this is right up my alley! Reminds me a bit of my holy grail Kat Von D Tattoo Liner that I adore. I haven’t tried it yet because I currently still have one KVD and an Essence eyeliner that I’m using but I will certainly try this one in the future. I hope it works well.

The last item in my bag was the Avene Rich Compensating Cream ($3.50 USD, 5 ml). I am a big fan of Avene moisturizers and this one would have been very handy this past winter when my face felt drier than usual. This is a richer, thicker moisturizer that is said to melt into your skin to soothe and nourish it. It doesn’t hurt to keep a product like this around if you tend to have dry skin at times. I’m sure I will be using it at some point in time.

And there we have it. The total value of my April ipsy glam bag was $47.49 USD which makes it around $65 CAD at today’s exchange rate. That’s not bad.

This wasn’t my absolute favourite bag but it was still pretty good. I will be using pretty much everything I received so that’s always a plus!

What was in your April glam bag?

Until next time, friends!

Unboxing + Review: ipsy October 2016 Black Magic

ipsy glam bag october 2016

I am so behind. The weeks leading up to my vacation were SO busy that I didn’t get a chance to get this posted before I hopped on a plane to paradise! So I apologize. But better late than never?

ipsy’s theme for their bag in October was Black Magic. It makes sense seeing as it was Halloween! While it can be a scary time of year, this bag was anything but spooky!

I mean, how cute is this bag that features ValfrΓ©’s drawings of crystal balls, kitties, lipsticks and candy corn? I love unique illustrations so this was totally up my alley. And the contents of the bag I received was pretty good. It was a mix of makeup, a brush and a skincare item in my October bag. So let’s get started!

ipsy glam bag october 2016

This month, three out of the five items I received were makeup items. It doesn’t happen often when I get more makeup items than anything else so that was nice!

My first makeup item this month was a sample of theBalm Cosmetic’s CabanaBoy Blush ($1.40 USD, 0.02 oz). As much as I think these theBalm samples are cute and unique, they are so small! I know I’ve said this in the past already but they really are. These small samples are so hard to work with unless it’s one you can use with an eyeshadow brush or a lip brush. In this case, a blush brush was just too big. Anyways, regarding the product itself, it’s a nice dusty rose colour, which is probably something I would use. I like rose coloured blushes.

ipsy glam bag october 2016

Next up is the Ciate Fierce Flicks Eyeliner (Β£15.00, 0.05 fl oz). I love liquid liners so I was looking forward to trying it. It is a brush tip, similar to the Stila liquid liner, and it was easy to use. While I do prefer a finer tip, like my holy grail Kat Von D Tatoo Liner, this one was pretty good too. It’s a thicker line but it went on pretty smooth. It lasted all day but it did smudge a little bit on me. I still prefer my KVD but I will continue to use this. Not bad at all!

ipsy glam bag october 2016

Let’s take a look at what’s next – the tre’StiQue Matte Lip Crayon in Belize Bordeaux (price unknown, 0.2 oz). I don’t often use darker lip colours but this colour is gorgeous! It goes on smoothly and looks great on. It’s also not at all drying and has decent staying power. I’m glad I received this because now I have a darker lip colour. Plus, can I say that this shade is absolutely perfect for fall? Just perfect!

ipsy glam bag october 2016

ipsy glam bag october 2016

While this is not makeup, it is certainly related. I received the MeMeMe Blush Brush (price unknown) which was nice because I love brushes! Though, I may have to pass this one on because I have too many blush brushes. But from what I can tell, it’s a very soft brush. A great addition to anyone’s brush collection!

ipsy glam bag october 2016

Last but not least, the final item I received was the Dermelect Rapid Repair Facial Moisturizer ($6.82 USD, 0.5 oz). Due to the many deluxe samples of moisturizers I have open right now (honestly, it’s gotta be at least three of them!), I haven’t tried this one yet. I am interested in trying it, though, because of their claim of its calming properties and because it is said to be great for sensitive skin. Perhaps after I finish one of my other moisturizer tubes!

ipsy glam bag october 2016

The value of my October glam bag was $35.24 CAD… with the exception of the trestique lip crayon and MeMeMe brush, both of which I couldn’t figure out what the prices were! Either way, still not bad when it comes to value.

So there you are. A very quick and dirty recap of October’s bag… stay tuned, though. I still have November’s ipsy glam bag to unbox! Or is that unbag? Anyways, just keep your eyes open for that soon. πŸ˜‰

Not subscribing to ipsy but would like to give it a try? It is $10.00 USD  a month in the US and $10.00 USD + $4.00 USD shipping for Canadians. Please use my link – much appreciated!

Hope you are all having a great evening!

Unboxing + Review: ipsy September 2016 Glamazon

ipsy glam bag september 2016

It’s officially fall! The leaves have started turning and it really is a beautiful season. Fall is probably my favorite season. Well, minus the dark mornings and cooler weather. It just reminds me of what’s around the corner… BUT let’s not get into that just yet. πŸ˜‰ Instead, let’s talk about September’s ipsy glam bag!

The ipsy September 2016 glam bag theme is Glamazon and the bag matches the theme perfectly! When I first saw the bag online, I didn’t think I would like it but now that I’ve seen it in person, it’s really not all that bad! While I’m not the biggest fan of the Amazon women on the front of the bag – it’s just not my style – I thought it was clever that it spelled out ‘I – P – S – Y”. And I do love the colours of the bag! In person, you can see a bit of silver in the pattern on the bag.

And now on to the contents!

The first product I received is the Eau Thermale AvΓ¨ne Hydrance Optimale Hydrating Serum ($8.00 CDN, 5 ml) and am I ever impressed! I only started adding a serum to my skin care regimen a few years ago so I have only tried a couple of kinds so far. This one impressed me right from the get go! It’s a very light serum that absorbed into my skin quickly. It made my skin feel so soft! It’s not sticky at all. While there is some fragrance, it’s pretty subtle and not overpowering at all.

ipsy glam bag september 2016

The next item I received is the Too Faced Lip Injection Extreme ($17.00 CDN, 1.5 g). I love Too Faced products so I was happy to see this, though, I’m not really one to use lip plumpers. I still gave it a try, though. I found that it made my lips tingle for awhile but it wasn’t uncomfortable or painful at all. It does work on my lips… they did seem plumper than usual. But like all other “lip plumping” products, we all react to it differently and it won’t be as pleasant or work for everyone. Overall, this product is not bad. If I am ever in need of a lip plumper, I know I will reach for this!

ipsy glam bag september 2016

The Christie Brinkley Authentic Skincare Complete Clarity Daily Facial Exfoliating Polish ($4.00 USD, 10 ml) is something I’m not very familiar with. Until now, I had no idea that Christie Brinkley had a skincare line! From the reviews I have seen, this looks to be a good product. I haven’t had a chance to try it yet so I really couldn’t say. I do like a good gentle exfoliator so I’m looking forward to trying this out.

ipsy glam bag september 2016

The Seraphine Botanicals Guava Butter 91% Natural Creamy Lip & Cheek Stain ($24.00 USD, 4 g, full size) is probably the superstar in my September bag! From the looks of it, this is what makes up the bulk of the value in my bag. It’s cruelty free, vegan, GMO-free and gluten-free. I love the colour! It’s beautiful! And this smells really yummy! I am not a huge fan of cream blushes so I don’t think I will be using this on my cheeks much but I am a lip junkie! I foresee myself using this as a tinted lip balm a lot. It’s also great that it’s full sized!

ipsy glam bag september 2016

The final product in my bag is the Trust Fund Beauty Nail Polish in Champagne Socialite ($15.00 USD, 17 ml, full size) and I LOVE it! I’m a huge fan of rose gold anything so this really was perfect for me! I haven’t had a chance to change my polish colour yet so that I could give this a try but I have tried Trust Fund Beauty nail polishes before and I really like them a lot! They have good staying power and it is super easy to apply. I was very happy to see this in my bag! It’s another full sized product, too.

ipsy glam bag september 2016

So that’s it. My September glam bag was fab! It included two full sized products and three deluxe samples with a total value of $81.65 CDN (based on today’s exchange rate). I will be using all these products, for sure! What was your favorite from this month’s bag?

Not subscribing to ipsy but would like to give it a try? It is $10.00 USD  a month in the US and $10.00 USD + $4.00 USD shipping for Canadians. Please use my link – much appreciated!

Hope you are all having a fantastic weekend!

ipsy glam bag December 2014 Unboxing and Review

Oh my, it has been awhile since my last unboxing. Quite honestly, it has been difficult keeping up with all my subscriptions due to being out of town so much the last few months and then the holiday season took over. It may also be a sign that I’m subscribed to too many boxes. For 2015, I will attempt to keep up.

Today, let’s talk ipsy. For those of you who are not familiar with ipsy, it is a beauty bag (not a box!) that contains 5 deluxe and full sized products delivered to your door each month. These bags – known as “glam bags” – contain a mixture of beauty products like makeup, skincare and hair care plus you get a different bag to house them all in each time you get one. Each month, ipsy curates each subscribers bag from a pool of many products which means there are a number of combinations out there! I have a few friends who are subscribed and we always have different bags each month! Not one dupe yet!

Well, let’s get into it – here is my ipsy bag for December!
