Review: Roger & Gallet Le Soin Aura Mirabilis Skincare – GlamSense

glamsense roger & gallet aura mirabilis

Looking for a flawless complexion? This beauty ritual may be able to help you with that!

I don’t often receive pretty packages in the mail so when this arrived, it took me completely by surprise! It was such a surprise to learn that I was chosen for the Roger & Gallet GlamSense campaign. If I can recall correctly, I had a tough day so this sure put a smile on my face! I mean, who doesn’t love getting mail, honestly? πŸ™‚ (Seriously,  though. How pretty is this box? It has Eiffel Towers all over it!)

From what I have seen on social media, there were a number of different boxes that were sent out. I received Box 1 which contained the Roger & Gallet Le Soin Aura Mirabilis beauty ritual.

This range contains four products which uses a natural remedy called Aura Mirabilis. This remedy was created nearly 300 years ago by monks and was meant to be used for a number of ailents. It contains 18 distilled officinal plants selected for their healing properties. Roger & Gallet now own this formula. πŸ™‚

(Seriously,  though. How pretty is this box? It has Eiffel Towers all over it!)

The plants found in this product includes sandalwood, geranium, neroli, green mandarin, citronelle, magnolia, lemon zest, thyme, lavendin, damask rose, bitter orange leaf, bergamot, sweet orange, lemongrass, lavender, palmarosa, may change and rosemary.

The ritual has four products and four steps:

  1. Detoxify using the Extra-Fine Cleansing Mask
Suitable for sensitive skin, this can be used as a mask or a cleanser. It removes make up and once water comes into contact with it, it turns into virginal milk which detoxifies the skin. (Virginal milk is what was used in the 18th Century to conserve porcelain skin.) This cleanser has a gel consistency and has a very pleasant scent. It smells floral but it is not overpowering at all! I am not a fan of floral scents but found that I really liked the scent. After using this cleanser, I found my skin was left very soft and it wasn’t drying. I enjoyed this cleanser. I will have to try it as a mask one day!

(Seriously,  though. How pretty is this box? It has Eiffel Towers all over it!)
(Seriously,  though. How pretty is this box? It has Eiffel Towers all over it!)
(Seriously,  though. How pretty is this box? It has Eiffel Towers all over it!)

  2. Refine using Beauty Vinegar
If you are like me, you are probably raising an eyebrow right now. What on Earth is “Beauty Vinegar”? In the 18th Century, cleansing vinegars made from flowers, fruits or spices were used for cleansing and preserving your skin’s complexion. Well to answer the question of “what is it?”, Beauty Vinegar is used as a toner. I found that using a cotton pad was the easiest way to apply it to my face. The scent is, again, very pleasant – there’s nothing “vinegar” about it! I also found it to be very gentle on my skin. A few benefits of this product is that it removes pollution residue and traces of makeup, smooths skin and clarifies your complexion and it refines skin texture and tightens pores.

(Seriously,  though. How pretty is this box? It has Eiffel Towers all over it!)

  3. Restore with Double-Extract
This is an essence or serum used after toning but before applying moisturizer. This is an ultra-concentrated serum and helps visibly reduce the signs of aging and wrinkles to help reveal radiant skin. Other benefits include correcting irregularities, restoring skin’s barrier and protecting against external aggressors and helps keep skin radiant and hydrated. Smells wonderful (again!) and applies very nicely. It absorbs ever so quickly and isn’t sticky or leaves a residue. The bottle is unique too – due to an innovative pre-dosing system, when you shake the bottle, the right amount of serum is dispensed. It’s just enough for your face and neck and you’re not wasting any product. Good stuff!

  4. Renew with Legendary Cream
The moisturizing step in the ritual. This moisturizer is said to even skin complexion and protect against aging, illuminate skin complexion and renews skin, invigorating skin cells acting against signs of dehydration and discomfort. It’s a very nice cream, very light and quick to absorb in your skin. Plus, like the other products, it smells very nice! After using this moisturizer cream, my skin is left feeling soft and smooth. It’s such a luxurious cream!

When it comes to skincare, I like to test products for a few weeks before reviewing them but being on vacation when I first received this prevented me from doing that. With the limited time I had to use these products before providing my reviews to GlamSense, I got a feel for each product.

Overall, I was quite impressed with the Aura Mirabilis skincare line, especially the serum and moisturizer. I already use a skincare regimen that contains a cleanser, toner, serum and moisturizer so it was easy for me to incorporate in my morning and evening routine. πŸ™‚

For me, I will continue to use these products. I would repurchase one or all of these products because I really like them!

Thank you GlamSense for letting me try these products! I have discovered some new favourites! πŸ™‚

Have you tried any products from Roger & Gallet? Thoughts?

Unboxing + Review: ipsy January 2017 metropolis

ipsy january 2017

How did time fly by so quickly? It’s already February! Alright, it’s time for all my January unboxings! Let’s begin with ipsy. I’m still subscribing to ipsy so here’s to a new year of fab surprises from my glam bag subscription!

January’s glam bag theme was Metropolis. As they say, it is “everything you need to own the concrete jungle” and features a bag that represents this perfectly with greys and silvers! While this is not my fave bag I’ve seen from ipsy, it’s still nice and if you love silver, this is perfect for you!

ipsy january 2017

The contents really made January’s glam bag great for me, though. Let’s take  a look at what I received!

ipsy january 2017

The first item I received was a sample of the IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Illumination Anti-Aging Concealer in Medium ($4.50 USD, 1.5 ml). While I do find it really thick, the regular Bye Bye Under Eye does a fantastic job with my undereye circles so I was really looking forward to trying this one out. Similar to the original, this one is thick, in consistency, as well. You don’t need to apply very much of it in order to build up great coverage…. in fact, if you put on too much, I find that it really accentuates fine lines AND it takes forever to blend so be sure to only use a little bit. I did find it to brighten my under eye area, as well so I was pretty happy with this product. And since you don’t need very much each time, this tiny tube will still last me quite awhile! Very pleased with this.

So next we have the pur~lisse Blue Lotus Seed 5-in-1 Mud Mask + Exfoliant ($11.14 USD, 15 ml). I haven’t tried this one yet. I have a couple of deluxe sized masks that are open that I’d like to finish first before I open up a new one. This one is a 10 minute facial that is said to be a “miracle multi-tasker (that) instantly brightens, detoxifies, tightens and soothes skin while providing gentle exfoliation”. Those are all pretty great things to look for in a mask and since I personally love masks, I will definitely be trying this one out sooner than later.

This next one was the big surprise winner in my bag – the Temptu Base Smooth and Matte Primer ($8.75 USD, 7.5 ml). I honestly didn’t think that I would be as impressed as I was with this primer! I have had very limited experience with this brand so I wasn’t sure what to expect when I received this plain Jane, white squeeze tube but I tried it and I’m very happy with it! It made my skin super smooth! The consistency is very light and it sets quickly. My makeup looks great overtop this. The only downside I could see was the size of the bottle – I wish it were bigger! And to think I almost overlooked this one because of it’s simplicity.

ipsy january 2017

Now on to a couple of colour products. I received the Trust Fund Beauty Lip Gloss in Method to the Madness ($22.00 USD, 4 ml). This lip gloss is a nude rose shade that is so great for every day wear. This looks pretty sheer on my lips. I can definitely see myself wearing this alone or on top of a lipstick to give it a bit of a shine. It feels moisturizing on my lips and I don’t find it stick at all. Overall, I really like this gloss!

Last but not least, I received the Paradise Pearlized Blush from Manna Kadar Beauty ($19.00 USD, 3 g). This shade is so beautiful and is described as a “vivid cherry blossom pink”. Looking at the Manna Kadar site, it looks like it was a blush from their Day Dream Palette that was released as an individual blush. It must have been pretty popular then! It’s very pigmented and a bit shimmery but I’m totally okay with that! I also love that this product is paraben free and it’s from a cruelty free brand. So much to love!

ipsy january 2017

So this brings me to the end of my unboxing. The value of the contents in January’s bag is $65.39 USD (which would make it  $85.18 CAD based on today’s exchange rate) so this is indeed a higher value bag. I will be using everything I received so I’m very happy with it!

BUT WAIT! There’s more!

I redeemed a lot of points last month! I received three products from ipsy points:

  • Farsali Rose Gold Elixir Radiating Moisturizer ($11.67 USD, 5 ml): I have heard many great things about this moisturizer! I haven’t had a chance to try it yet, though. Ideal for daytime use for all skin types, this moisturizer contains 24k gold flakes. Super intriguing! They even have a tip on their site as to how to use this with your foundation which I will try because I have been using the tarte Maracuja Oil this way and I have been loving it! I wonder how this one compares?
  • Luxie 227 Blending Brush ($15.70 USD): I love Luxie brushes and I can never get enough blending brushes, to be honest. I had to get this one too!
  • Lisa Hoffman Matte Gold Fragrance Necklace with Tuscan Fig Fragrance Beads ($100 – $200 USD, estimated): I don’t see this particular necklace on the Lisa Hoffman website but all her fragrance necklaces are upwards of $100.00 USD up to over a grand! I don’t know where this one stacks up but I’ve seen these necklaces before and always wondered about them so I wanted to try it out. I really like the scent of the Tuscan Fig beads and this necklace is so pretty! You can wear it with pretty much everything. I’m glad I took a chance on this one!

You get a mix of skincare, makeup and haircare deluxe and full sized products. And you get a different style of bag each month. Unboxing + Review: FabFitFun Winter 2016

fabfitfun winter 2016

I always get excited when I receive a new FabFitFun box! It is so different than the other boxes I subscribe to. Not only do you get beauty items like skin care and makeup… you also get other goodies, as well.

For those of you who are not familiar with FabFitFun, it is a seasonal lifestyle subscription box based in the US. You will receive four boxes a year. The box costs $49.99 USD and it is an additional $8 USD to ship to Canada. It is a pricier subscription but it is seasonal and you only get four of them per year and each box has a value that is well over $200.00 USD so if you see that the spoilers are items you would like, it’s totally worth it! If you would like to try this subscription out, I would very much appreciate it if you use my referral link here.

The FabFitFun Winter 2016 Box contained seven items that will help you through the winter and will also get you ready to tackle the new year.

fabfitfun winter 2016

fabfitfun winter 2016

Let’s take a look at the beauty items first.

The makeup item that was included in the Winter Box was the Butter London IconoClast Mega Volume Lacquer Mascara ($20.00 USD, 2.6 ml). If I didn’t already have a couple of mascaras opened right now, I would love to try this! They claim that this mascara increases the volume of your lashes by 300%! As someone with not that noticeable, straight lashes, I am very intrigued by this mascara! I also love the fact that this product is full sized. This one will be something to try out in the future.

fabfitfun winter 2016

Next up is skincare. I received the O.R.G. Skincare Mineral Peel Face ($44.00 USD, 59 ml). This face peel claims to give you “smoother, softer, more radiant” skin. Who wouldn’t want that? It seems easy enough to use – just spray it on your face, massage it off and done! This sounds like an awesome peel! I’m hoping it’s a gentle one.

fabfitfun winter 2016

The last of the beauty products is in the form of a body cream. There were two scents available and I received the Anderson Lilley Beach Butter Body Cream ($24.00 USD, 148 ml) in Sicilian Tangerine (the other scent was Manhattan Beach). I don’t know about you but my skin gets pretty parched during these dry Alberta winters. I always use a body lotion or body butter after I shower so this will certainly come in handy! Plus, it smells great, too. Love this!

fabfitfun winter 2016

Now that we covered all things beauty, how about we take a look at something that is pretty?

The Gorjana Taner Toggle Lariat Necklace in Gold ($75.00 USD) looks so delicate! I love this necklace. I’m glad that I received a gold necklace (the other option would have been the silver one) because I have been adding a lot more of this colour to my accessories as of late. I have worn this a lot since I received it. It is so versatile and goes with pretty much everything I own. Maybe not my active gear, but certainly what I wear to the office and my casual clothes, too. It’s pretty fantastic and so beautiful.

fabfitfun winter 2016

Now how about some home goods? FabFit Fub is so great at including items you can incorporate into your home and the Winter Box is no different! The D.L. Co Candle in Bergamot Woods ($45.00 USD)  is lovely and decorative. Bergamot Woods comes in silver (the other option was Blackberry Nectar which comes in a gold candle holder) and it is a gorgeous looking candle… though, it is smaller than I thought it would be when I saw the spoiler. In all honesty, I think I would have preferred the Blackberry Nectar one but I will still give this a try.

fabfitfun winter 2016

Can I just say that I love stationery? The Marie Mae Company Thank You Card Set ($24.00 USD, includes 10 cards and 10 envelopes) is so pretty! You never know when you need to send a thank you note so these are great to keep on hand for those moments. Written notes are so rare nowadays so it was great to see something like this included in the box.

fabfitfun winter 2016

fabfitfun winter 2016

The last item in my Winter Box was a 2017 Weekly Planner by Moleskin ($20.95 USD). This one looks to be made specifically for FabFitFun but Moleskin does make many different planners and notebooks. I love planners so I thought this was awesome! This will definitely keep me on track in 2017. And there are stickers! I love stickers. I received the forest green colour (I believe it also comes in a purple?) and it is the perfect size to fit in the bag I usually take with me to work. I know I can use my phone’s calendar to keep track of things – and to an extent, I do – but when it comes to formally using a planner, I’m still very much old school.

fabfitfun winter 2016

fabfitfun winter 2016

fabfitfun winter 2016

fabfitfun winter 2016

So there you have it! All the contents of my Winter 2016 FabFitFun box.

The total retail value of everything was $253.95 USD which equates to $332.20 CAD in using today’s exchange rate. Not too shabby. I wish there were more products but I guess there were just more high value items this time around. Overall, this is still well worth it for a seasonal box!

What did you think of the Winter 2016 FabFitFun box?

Review: Montagne Jeunesse Strawberry Souffle Face Mask

There are some days where you need a little bit of ‘me’ time. Recently, after a long, busy work week, I decided to have some of this ‘me’ time and that I would give myself a quick spa facial treatment! My treatment of choice this time around was Montagne Jeunesse’s Strawberry Souffle Face Mask.

Montagne Jeunesse is a company that produces cruelty free, natural skin care. They offer a range of products you can use from head to toe! With products ranging from body smoothies to face masks, it seems that they have something for everyone.

montagne jeunesse's strawberry souffle face mask
montagne jeunesse’s strawberry souffle face mask

I don’t know about you guys but strawberries are one of my favorite fruits. I just adore these berries by themselves, with whipped cream, white sugar or mixed into a healthy breakfast smoothie! So I figured, this would be the perfect mask to try. Plus, this is described as a “Moisturising & Purifying Masque” which is exactly what I needed to help out the dry patches on my face! The cold weather does add some hardships for those of us who get dry skin in the winter.

mj_strawberrysouffle_review2

The mask comes in a single-use packet. The three main ingredients featured in this product are strawberry (for hydration), aloe vera (to soothe) and vanilla (to calm). This is a creamy face mask that you apply onto your skin and leave on for a certain amount of time. The instructions on the back show that it is simple to use and features four steps.

1. Cleanse: I washed my face using my fave face cleanser ever – the First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser!

2. Apply: My first impression upon opening the packet was that it smells delicious! It truly smells like strawberries and cream! I had to keep reminding myself that it was a face mask and was not meant to be eaten. πŸ™‚ As I was applying the creamy mask to my face, it reminded me of the same consistency as Cool Whip. It was light and fluffy! Application was very simple and it covered my face nicely.

mj_strawberrysouffle_review3

3. Relax: The packet says that you should leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes. I left it on for the full 20. As time went on, the cream started to stiffen a bit but it never hardened.

4. Rinse: Because it is a cream, rinsing did prove a bit difficult due to the mask becoming even creamier when I added water to it! It did take some effort but I found it to be worth it in the end as my skin was baby soft.

mj_strawberrysouffle_review4 copy

Overall, I found this product to be very gentle on my skin which I thought was great! It didn’t leave my skin red or irritated but rather it left it soft and refreshed. I would definitely use this mask again and I’m very intrigued by some of their other masks, as well! And honestly, who doesn’t love a natural product?

If you are interested in trying this mask (or others from Montagne Jeunesse), you can find a selection of them over at Obsessed Canada. If you do end up trying a mask or two, do let me know what you think of them! I’m always looking for recommendations on what to try next. πŸ™‚
