US Beauty Haul – Sephora

us beauty haul sephora

When I was in Vegas back in November, I was there during Black Friday. Naturally, I had to see what my fave stores had to offer! Of course, this included a quick stop at Sephora.

Let me preface it with this, though: I wasn’t there to buy out the shop! 😉 I also wasn’t intending to splurge. With my shop my stash mentality, I knew I already had a lot of stuff I could use at home so I wasn’t going to go all crazy. But sometimes there are products in US Sephora’s that aren’t carried in Canadian Sephora’s and that is what my criteria was. Other than staying within reasonable budget, that is. So at the end of the day, my US Sephora haul was pretty small.

In a way I was happy to walk away without spending much. But by this point, I had already visited a couple of CVS drugstores and a Walgreens so I had already bought a bit. But I will get to that when I post part two of this series, my US Drugstore Beauty Haul. 😉

For now, let’s get back to Sephora. And if there is anything specific in my haul that you want me to take a closer look at and write a review for, do let me know in the comments and I will be happy to oblige!

The only Black Friday deal that I noticed that was available in the US and not in Canada AND was something I was genuinely interested in was the It Cosmetics It’s Your Secret to Beautiful Skin! kit ($15.00 USD). While IT Cosmetics has broken into the Canadian market in the last year, I haven’t had a lot of experience with their skin care. It’s not cheap to purchase full sized products! But this “try it” kit was perfect for me!

This set contains two deluxe sized skin products. The first product is the Miracle Water 3-in-1 Glow Tonic. This is a no-rinse product (think micellar water) that combines a Skin-Brightening Radiance Booster with an Anti-Aging Treatment Essence. It’s meant to be used in the morning or evening as your cleanser or after cleansing. Simply apply it to a cotton pad to cleanse and remove makeup and ta-dah! Just pat any remaining product into your skin and you’re done!

The other product in this kit is a deluxe sized Secret Sauce. This name has intrigue written all over it! What is this “secret sauce”? What does it do? Colour me intrigued! Well, it is an anti-aging moisturizer and being in my mid-30s, that’s perfect! It claims to be hydrating which is perfect for the winter months so I look forward to trying this out more once my current moisturizer runs out.

I’m not quite done with IT Cosmetics just yet!

I bought another kit, as well. It’s the Your Most Beautiful Eyes kit ($15.00 USD) and includes the Bye Bye Makeup 3-in-1 Makeup Melting Balm and the Superhero Mascara. I’ve always wanted to try a balm cleanser so what better time than now? This kit also includes a mascara that I’ve been wanting to try , as well, so I figured why not?

Canadian Sephora’s do not carry either IT Cosmetics kits so I thought it was worth it to buy at the time. It’ll give me a chance to try these products and see if I like them enough to fully invest my money on them! So we shall see.

The only non-It Cosmetics product I purchased was the Sephora Mini Color Switch Brush Cleaner. I’ve always wanted to try one of these! It is a dry, makeup removing sponge that lets you switch colors without switching brushes. It is reusable and you can wash it. I thought it would come in handy!

I don’t know about you but my experience with my local Sephora’s is that they are seriously lacking in the 100 point rewards department! I try to buy most of my things online because of this. But the Sephora I visited int he Caesars Forum Shops had some amazing selection! So I ended up picking up a deluxe sized sample of the Kate Somerville Wrinkle Warrior 2-in-1 Plumping Moisturizer + Serum and the Sunday Riley C.E.O. C+E Protect + Repair Moisturizer. These are two brands whose products I would like to try so I thought this was a great investment for my points!

Plus, they also gave me a sample vial of the Jo Malone English Pear and Freesia perfume which I was all for because this is one of the scents I wanted to try anyways. And I didn’t even have to ask for it! She just threw it in the bag with the rest of my goodies. I can’t even recall the last time my local Sephora’s (and I’m talking multiple Sephora’s here) has done that for me. Yes, I get that I can ask for them to MAKE me three samples but it’s nice when they just throw something extra in your bag, y’know?

So that’s it. I know it’s a pretty small haul but hey, there is more to come! There will be plenty more in my US Drugstore Beauty Haul. 🙂

Remember, if there is anything here that you would like to see a review for, please just let me know! 🙂

Till next time friends!

Unboxing: 2017 Cosmetics Magazine Canadian Fragrance and Beauty Awards Limited Edition Topbox

cosmetics magazine 2017 fragrance & beauty awards topbox limited edition

I don’t currently subscribe to Topbox but I do really like that they offer Limited Edition Boxes on occasion! They are one-time purchases and do not required a subscription so they’re great! I certainly don’t buy all their Limited Edition Boxes (I’m still on a low buy and trying to use up what I have) but sometimes they release ones that you just can’t overlook. This was one such box.

cosmetics magazine 2017 fragrance & beauty awards topbox limited edition

The 2017 Cosmetics Magazine Canadian Fragrance and Beauty Awards Box was inspired by the awards and features a number of the award winners and finalists. At first glance, it contained products I already love (which pretty much guarantees that I will use it and my money hasn’t gone to waste) and ones I have always wanted to try (this is a low cost way to try something without buying the full sized product) so the decision to get this box was a no brainer. For $26.00 CAD, this box came with 11 deluxe and full-sized fragrance and beauty products.

Let’s take a look at what they are. I will go into what I’m most excited about after we see the goodies!

  • Thierry Mugler Angel Muse Eau de Toilette
  • Michel Germain Sexual Paris Tendre
  • Michel Germain Sexual Paris Tendre Pour Homme

  • Clarins Hydra-Essentiel (15 ml)
  • Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair (7 ml)

  • Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion + (15 ml)
  • Shiseido Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate (10 ml)

  • CoverGirl Katy Kat Matte Lipstick in Sphynx
  • Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil in 02 Raspberry

cosmetics magazine 2017 fragrance & beauty awards topbox limited edition

  • Rimmel Wonderlash Mascara with Argan Oil (full sized, 11 ml)
  • Bioderma Sensibio H20 Micellar Water (100 ml)

I think the biggest draw for me was that it contains so many great brands and products that I have tried and loved before (like the Bioderma, Shiseido and Clinique) and really want to try before taking the plunge and buying the full size (like the Clarins moisturizer and lip gloss, Estee Lauder and Rimmel). I will definitely be using most of it! The only ones I might pass over is the Therry Mugler perfume and CoverGirl lipstick because they’re just not for me. Either way, this is such a great mix of products! I love how the products were either deluxe samples, travel sized or full sized. I’m super glad that I got it. 🙂

Unboxing + Review: Topbox January 2017 and $10 Beauty Surprise

Topbox January 2017

Here we are again!  It’s time for another Topbox unboxing! I chose the Regular Topbox in January because none of the Prive boxes looked appealing to me… again. Oh well. I also opted in for a $10 Beauty Surprise that I was hoping was going to be amazing. But until you get it, you don’t really know… so all I could do is throw my money at them and cross my fingers!

January’s Topbox came with four items PLUS a bonus! Bonus items are always great! Now, let’s go through each of the products in the box.

  • MaskerAid SPOTTED! Anti-Blemish Clear Spot Patches ($6.25 CAD, two sheets): this is an interesting product. These patches are mant to be applied on blemishes for 8 to 12 hours or overnight. They help minimize the look of pimples, absorbs oil and calms redness. It’s formulation includes salicylic acid, volcanic ash and tea tree oil. I personally use tea tree oil on my blemishes and it works for me so this has some promise. I will have to give this product a try.
  • Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat ($2.56 CAD, 3.6 ml): now, how did Topbox know that I was in the market for a new topcoat? I have heard of Seche Vite before and I would like to try it. Perhaps next time I do my nails. This one is said to be “Guaranteed not to yellow while leaving nails silky, stronger and resistant to chipping and peeling.”
  • Voesh New York Pedi Mud Masque in Olive Sensation ($7.99 CAD, 3 x 20 g packets): when I first took these out of the organza bag, I seriously thought these were a face mask. But no… this mask is for your feet! I haven’t tried a foot mask before, nor have I ever heard of this brand before. My feet aren’t in too bad of shape right now. This may best be saved for the summer when I’m living in sandals of flip flops which is when my feet usually take a beating and I am in need of a pedi, stat! That’s when my feet will really need some TLC.
  • Bella Aura Skincare Gentle Purifying Cleanser ($4.50 CAD, 10 ml): Another Bella Aura product. This time I received a cleanser.  I am actually quite tired of seeing this brand in my Topbox.. yes, I understand I’m getting  a different product each time but I am not a fan of the scent of the products I have already received so what makes me think this is going to be different? This is a pass for me.

Quite honestly, getting a bonus item in a beauty box is quite awesome! And is it crazy that, out of everything I receive in January, it was the bonus freebie that I was most excited about?

I received a trave sized bottle of Garnier All-in-One Micellar Water ($2.50 CAD, 125 ml). I already use this product and I love it! I have been using this (and the Simple one) instead of Bioderma lately and I’m not looking back! It is much more cost effective and it works just as well. I love how I have a travel sized bottle now! I wonder if this was included as an intro to consumers because they are finally selling the smaller bottles of this now? Whatever the reason, I am happy to have received this.

Topbox January 2017 - Garnier Micellar Water

As I mentioned before, I also got a $10 Beauty Surprise. I received the DDM Liquid Lipstick in the shade Rich Bitch ($12.00 CAD). I have never heard of DDM before so I’m not sure as to the quality of their products. This liquid lipstick is not exactly a high value item but on the bright side, at least I received a colour I can actually wear. Rich Bitch looks to be a reddish brown colour. The formulation is thicker and very pigmented. I haven’t truly tested this for wear yet. I have seen other people receive the black shade… of which I really would have no use for. So I guess that’s okay. I really wish it was a higher value item, ,though. This is really just a savings of around 16%. That’s not a lot.

So there you have it! That’s all for January. Nothing overly exciting but I do love the micellar water. I’m back in limbo again. The question “Do I keep subscribing or do I try something new now?” has popped into my head the last month or two again. We’ll see how long I will continue on with this subscription. Nothing is really wowing me as of late which is unfortunate because this is a Canadian company and I really do want to keep supporting them!

I have already received my February Topbox so stay tuned for that unboxing coming soon!

Hope you are all having a wonderful weekend!

Project Pan: 16 in 2016 – Mid-Year Update: Empties!

project pan 2016 updateWOW! Where has the summer gone? I don’t know about you but it went by way too quickly!

Project Pan 2016 has been going full force since January! Don’t think I forgot about this initiative of mine. 😉 I had meant to provide an update on on the progress of my Project Pan sooner! Since my last post in April, I have made great strides in my Project Pan! Big enough progress that I am going to dedicate this update to just my empties. Don’t worry, for the products that are still “in progress”, I will provide another update soon. I have quite a few to go through so let’s get started!

The Quick Stats

Based on a total of 21 products in my Project Pan as of August 31, 2016.

Empties: 12/21
In Progress: 9/21

project pan 2016

Success! (aka The Empties)

For empties, I will be doing a quick review on each product – what I thought, what I liked, what I didn’t like, would I buy it again. I have made great progress since my last update back in April – I finished seven products. 🙂

  • Maybelline Dream Fresh BB 8-in-1 Beauty Balm SPF 30  in Medium
I honestly thought that this product was bottomless. Seriously. I was using this just about every single day since January and, like the Energizer Bunny, it kept going and going and going! But now it’s finally empty! This product lasted me forever. I really like it, too. If you are looking for a lightweight sheer foundation, this is a great option. It goes on nicely with a Beauty Blender or a foundation brush and doesn’t oxidize on me. It’s not full coverage but it’s nice for light to medium coverage.
  • MAC Fix+ Spray
I purchased the travel sized bottle of this just so I could try it… and I ended up loving it! This bottle still lasted me a good while. I like the scent as it’s not too strong and I found that it worked very well in keeping my makeup in place all day. Plus, this is a great way to revive your ColourPop eyeshadows that have dried up a little bit. I have since purchased a new bottle. 🙂
  • Caudalie Makeup Remover Cleansing Water
I’m so sad I finished this! I know I will be repurchasing this because I just adore this cleansing water! I use it in the morning just before I start my skin care routine and I use it at night for evenings when I’m too tired to cleanse my face with my Foreo. I put it on a cotton round and use it to wipe my makeup off and it does a pretty good job! I really like this bottle because I can reuse it very easily – just add more product to it and off you go! It’s the perfect size for travel. I will definitely be repurchasing this!
  • Nip + Fab Sheer Make-Up Fix Complexion Perfector
This was a really nice primer – it’s too bad that this product has been discontinued! This was so easy to apply and it absorbs SO nicely. My face was never sticky and my makeup stayed on all day. Dang. If this ever returns to the N+F lineup, I would totally repurchase it!

project pan 2016

  • Vichy Idealia Skin Sleep*
I never really tried Vichy until I received this product from ChickAdvisor and I’m so glad they exposed me to something that is a pretty amazing product! This is best used as an evening moisturizer – it is thick but not sticky. It absorbs quickly and helps the dry patches on my skin stay hydrated in the winter. You don’t have to use very much so this jar probably lasted me almost a year. Overall, I was very happy with this product. Next time I’m in the market for a night cream, this is pretty much at the top of my list. 🙂
  • Benefit It’s Potent! Eye Cream
I’m not sure about this one. I didn’t really notice much of a difference to my eye area after using this. I was also not a big fan of the jar… it’s so small so the jar opening is small and it was difficult to get product out when you only have a little bit left. I think this is a pass for me.

project pan 2016

  • Alterna Caviar CC Cream
I have used up maybe two of these. This most recent one is the one I took on my trip to Vegas in June. It lasted me the 5 days and then some once I got home. It’s a good sized product. This product helps with a number of things including taming frizz which I have due to dry ends. It worked well enough but after awhile, I didn’t like the smell as much. I have since found other products which do the same thing that I prefer. I likely won’t get this again.

project pan 2016

To keep this short and sweet, I am only going to write about the empties. Check back soon for more about what is “in progress” (there are nine of ’em!) and what I will be adding to my Project Pan because… well, it’s only September. Let’s keep this going!

Project Pan: 16 in 2016 – Update #1

Finally! A Project Pan update!

I was hoping to post this earlier but after a super busy Easter weekend and then being sick last week, I haven’t had much time in front of the laptop. This post may be a bit on the longer side so hopefully this will make up for it!

While I do have a slew of new posts coming your way, I thought I would do an update on my Project Pan. I decided to post updates every two months. This update will only encompass the eight products I introduced in my post back in January. I will cover the other eight in an update at the end of April. So here we go!
