Unboxing + Review: ipsy August 2017 Good Vibes Only

ipsy august 2017

I can’t believe it’s already September! The mornings are starting to feel cooler but I refuse to admit that summer is almost over. Even though Pumpkin Spice Lattes have made a comeback… and I love PSL’s! Anyways, let’s stick to summer…. and ipsy’s August glam bag screams summer!

August’s bag comes in three variations – one that says Peace, Love, Lipstick, another says Wild & Free and a third one says Good Vibes Only . Looking at it is totally helping me keep that summer vibe. The oranges, reds, pinks and purples were inspired by sunsets. They’re all so pretty! I knew I was going to be happy with any of the three bags I would receive. In the end, I received the bag that says Good Vibes Only and I love it!

The contents of my bag weren’t too shabby either.

ipsy august 2017 winky lux concealer

The first product was the Winky Lux Peeper Perfect Concealer in Medium ($??.??, 3 g). This concealer is so nice! I’ve used it for a few days now and I’m quite impressed. The consistency is silky smooth and light. It’s easy to apply – I just used my ring finger – and blends in quite nicely. The shade Medium was the perfect shade match for me. It’s said to be hydrating with buildable coverage and I completely agree with that. The only thing I don’t like is the fact that the sample is so small! Good thing you don’t need to use too much of it each time. This is definitely one I would repurchase in the future! Heck, I am considering using the ipsy discount to get this – it is that good!

ipsy august 2017 pacifica blush

When I first saw that I was getting the Pacifica Coconut Blush Duo in Beaming and Tenderheart ($??.??, 14 g), I had mixed feelings. Why? Because I wasn’t too impressed with their makeup products that I received in past ipsy bags. They always were lacking pigment and I was always disappointed. But when I tried it, I was surprised at how great these blushes are! They are so pigmented and totally buildable. A soft touch for a light shade or build it up for more colour. The colours are really nice, too! Beaming is a muted terracotta and Tenderheart is a soft mauve. Gotta say, I do favour Tenderheart but they’re both pretty great. And what’s even greater? These are pretty much full sized. I was impressed with the size of it and the mirror on the bottom of the packaging was neat, too. I’m sure I will get it dirty, though. Fingerprints!

ipsy august 2017 air repair eye cream

This next one was a surprise to me. I was not expecting to like it as much as I do! The Air Repair Skincare Super-Hydrating Eye Cream ($7.67 USD, 5 ml) is such a nice light eye cream! It feels like a cloud going on my skin – it’s that gentle! It also has a nice soft scent to it. I’ve only used it for a couple of days but I really like it so far! Shame this is also such a small sample. It’s a good thing that you don’t need to apply very much each time.

ipsy august 2017 the balm balmvoyage eyeshadow

This next one is a love-hate relationship. I received yet another theBalm product. This time it was theBalm Voyage Volume 2 Eyeshadow in the shade Wilkommen ($??.??, 0.57 g). Again it’s such a small sample! Cute, though, but still! I have tried this shade and it’s a nice deep caramel shimmer. I will use it since I love using neutral shades on work days. I guess it’s just the size that bugs me! But that’s nothing new, I guess.

ipsy august 2017 slmissglam brush

Last but not least was the SLMissGlam T35 Precise Blending Brush ($13.00 USD). This was an okay brush. It’s not as soft and is a little bit scratchy when I’m applying eye shadow but it’s still super cute! I love the teal colour and the small gems on it! And honestly – I just can’t say no to new brushes! 🙂

So that’s it for August! I couldn’t quite figure out the value of this bag seeing as I couldn’t figure out the price of three out of the five products. At the end of the day, I’m using it all so it’s worth it to me. Heck, I have been using the Winky Lux concealer and Air Repair eye cream on the daily this past week! So good.

How was your August glam bag? Did you have any favourite products?

ipsy glam bag January 2015 Unboxing and Review

This is the first ipsy post of the new year! Yes, yes, I do realize that it is February right now. And yes, I realize this post is a bit late.

[Update on March 22, 2015: My apologies that this post has come as late as it has. When I first started writing this post, I had every intention to finish it within a day or two. But stuff got in the way. Without going into much detail about my personal life, it involved some worry, a lot of stress about so many things all at once and work became exponentially busy. Throw into that a trip to Atlanta! And here we are towards the end of March. I am happy to say that my personal life is back to normal now even though work still keeps me busy. I hope to get back into a regular blogging schedule in April.]

I won’t blabber on much longer, let’s get started!

january 2014 empties!

Ohmigosh. It is the middle of February! This post was a long time coming. Quite honestly, unless I go through samples, I don’t go through product that quickly. But for this post I’m tossing in the late-2013 empties, so this entry may be a bit overinflated. So where shall we begin? Skin care? Sure why not. 🙂 The first is a favorite of mine.

first up: a little bioderma!
first up: a little bioderma!

Bioderma Sensibio H20 Micelle Solution
I don’t know about you but I have tried a couple of non-rinse makeup removers – mostly of the cloth face wipe variety – but nothing has really made an impression. Until now, that is! I have seen this product reviewed on various other blogs and on YouTube so I thought I would try it out… And I loved it! I finished this up in November, I think? And I am already about a quarter into a new bottle. I won’t talk about this one too much because I am going to be writing a separate review about it shortly.

Pacifica Brazilian Mango Grapefruit Body Wash
I love Pacifica. I love their body butters, fragrances and of course, their body washes! Other than local health stores, I have been sporadically been finding Pacifica products at Winners. At the time, they didn’t have my favorite scents so I opted for the Brazilian Mango Grapefruit one. It smells great and lathers well! It has a very citrusy and summery scent. Great for the mornings! And I don’t find it drying at all… which says a lot because my skin can get really dry.

I would buy this scent again… But only after I use the other ones I still have. I stocked up the last time I saw these body washes at Winners!

Clear Total Care Daily Conditioner
You are probably thinking… where’s the empty shampoo bottle? For some strange reason, I tend to finish shampoos off way before the conditioner. I don’t know if this is common or if it’s just me! They can be the exact same size bottle but I am always finding the shampoo disappearing first. And that is why I only have the conditioner right now. The shampoo bottle was empty, I threw it away, I bought a new one so it’s still 3/4 full right now! It took me 1/4 of the shampoo bottle to finish off the rest of the conditioner.

So now down to the nitty gritty. I do like this conditioner. It is for all hair types so it’s pretty universal. They say the magic ingredient is something called “Nutrium 10” which is an advanced moisture complex. I don’t know a whole lot about it but it works. I have color treated hair (usually highlights) and often use hot hair styling tools but since I started using this, I find that my hair isn’t as dry and damaged like it used to be.

Redkin Color Extend Shampoo and Conditioner
If I can recall correctly, I received four of these foil packets – two shampoo and two conditioner – from a Topbox last year. These samples lasted me for most of a week so they were a pretty good sized foil sample. Upon first impression, I really like the scent of these products! I found it to be very gentle and it also made my hair super soft and shiny. Since I do tend to color my hair (usually with highlights), these are an attractive product for me. I will be using my other two samples soon, I’m sure. Or I will save them for when I go on my trip in a few months.

I know I only have the conditioner bottle… I had already thrown away the shampoo bottle before I remembered that I should’ve kept it for an empties post! I had purchased this duo from Sephora prior to a trip to Las Vegas last year. I was looking for something new that was travel sized so at the time, this fit the bill. I loved how it smells like coconut and it was very moisturizing. I like it a lot. But what is turning me off of repurchasing it is the price. It’s a very pricey shampoo!

Olay Fresh Effects – Shine, Shine Go Away Shine Minimizing Cleanser
This sample came in one of my P&G brandSAMPLER boxes last year. It was a very generous 20 ml sample and lasted me quite awhile. You don’t need to use very much to get a good lather. On the site it says it is “Formulated with kaolin clay and infused with the essence of honeysuckle and white tea, this cleanser removes 2x more dirt, oil, and make-up compared to basic cleansing.” I really like it because, even though it is formulated similar to a mask, it’s very gentle and can be used daily. I used to use this sample daily but since I bought a full sized version, I have only been using it once or twice a week.

Lancome Bi-Facil Eye Makeup Remover
I am not sure where I received this sample buy my guess would be that it was a free gift with purchase. I am a huge fan of this makeup remover! I usually just put some on a cotton pad and sweep it over my eyes. I’m able to remove all my eye makeup, including liquid liner and waterproof makeup, with little effort. I have a couple more of these little samples which are great for travelling! I also use this on a daily basis so I have a full sized bottle, as well. Though, I’m not sure what is wrong with the full sized bottle as it seems very messy. Like when I shake it, a little comes out at the top so when I open it, it spills over. I’m not sure if I just got a faulty bottle or what. I’ll find out when I get to my second full sized bottle, I guess. 🙂

I will admit, it’s pretty pricey, but it does last a long time. Also, a tip: my local Beauty Boutique at Shoppers Drug Mart and Hudson’s Bay will periodically have free gift with purchase offers. I’ve noticed that the minimum spend is usually $35 so if you time it right and you purchase this during one of those promotions, it’s worth it because you get makeup freebies too!

Murad AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser
This was my first go with an exfoliating cleanser.  It had very tiny beads and it wasn’t abrasive at all. It was quite gentle, actually. I used this two to three times a week and this sample carried me through months and months. I imagine a full sized bottle would last me a year or more. lol. The one thing I was not a fan of is that it has a paraben in it. I did like it but the price is a bit too much for me. Besides, I already have a good exfoliator in my skincare line up.

Philosophy Purity Made Simple
This sample travelled with me throughout 2013. It came with me to Vancouver, Vegas, and all through the province of Ontario! I’m not in love with it but it’s a good cleanser that is gentle and didn’t really dry my skin. Again, my only complaint is it contains parabens. I have another one of these small samples in my stockpile that I will use up but I’m not sure if I would switch over to this cleanser.
