Unboxing + Review: ipsy September 2017 Like A Boss

ipsy september 2017

It’s October and here is September’s ipsy glam bag! I don’t know about you but I love fall! Not so much the cold or the approaching winter but the colours are amazing on the trees. I got to really enjoy them when we went on our last camping trip of the season this past weekend. It’s beautiful outside!

ipsy september 2017

ipsy September 2017

Another month, another ipsy glam bag. September’s theme is Like A Boss. The five products comes in a slick looking black glam bag. It’s black, faux leather and features spikes. How’s that for a “boss” of a bag? πŸ˜‰

ipsy september 2017

The first item I received is the Luxie Rose Gold Medium Angled Shading Eye Brush #207 ($14.99 USD). I love all my Luxie brushes so I have high hopes for this one! The bristles are so soft and if they are like my other Luxie eye brushes, the make blending your eyeshadows super easy. So glad I received this! And honestly, the rose gold is beautiful!

ipsy september 2017 pixi

Next up is the Pixi by Petra Beauty Blush Duo in Peach Honey ($7.93 USD). I love the looks of this blush! Use one side or the other or mix the two up. πŸ™‚ Using a light hand, this could also make a great highlighter because of the shimmer. Multi-purpose products are always a huge plus for me!

ipsy september 2017 smashbox

I also received the Smashbox Photo Finish Radiance Primer ($9.75 USD). I’m always on the fence with Smashbox primers but I will give this one a try.  I’m not sure if it’s an all over primer or just something I would maybe mix in with my foundation. Might be good for winter as it will give you a bit of a glow!

ipsy september 2017

ipsy september 2017

The next product I received was the Elizabeth Mott Pop! Goes The Shadow in Gunmetal ($4.55 USD). This isn’t really my kind of shade… I don’t often wear black shades or grey shades very often. I think this one is a pass for me.

ipsy september 2017 bio fresh

Last but not least was the re:p real elemental practice Bio Fresh Mask with Real Calming Herb ($6.31 USD). I haven’t used masks as often lately but I think I will try this one. It smells really nice and it looks like it will be good for sensitive skin.

That’s September’s bag! Valued at $43.53 USD ($54.48 CAN based on today’s exchange rate), it’s not the highest valued bag I have received but it’s still not bad. I will still use most of it, except for maybe the eyeshadow, so that’s okay.

Unboxing + Review: ipsy July 2017 Over Easy

ipsy July 2017

ipsy summers are ultra chill… or in the case of July’s bag, it’s just Over Easy.

Over Easy is the them for July and the bag features Gudetama, and over easy egg. Gudetama was created by Sanrio, the same brains behind Hello Kitty, Keroppi and other cute characters. Gudetama looks a little sad, though. I’m don’t know why. He really shouldn’t be! I love Sanrio characters and have loved them since I was a pre-teen and there were still Sanrio stores around here. I’ll give this sad egg a chance. πŸ™‚

ipsy July 2017

But right now, let’s see what was in the bag!

ipsy July 2017 trestique

The first item I received was the treStiQue Mini Concealer Crayon in Bisque (price and size of product is unknown). Now how handy and convenient is this? A concealer pencil that’s super portable! This concealer has a creamy texture that provides medium to full coverage. It is coconut-infused making it hydrating for those who have dry undereyes. I’m glad I received this. πŸ™‚

ipsy July 2017 seraphine botanicals

Next, we have the Seraphine Botanicals Ginger + Gold Peach & Gold Frosting Blush ($14.00 USD, 3 g). This is so so so my colour! So it’s safe to say that I’m happy about it! This is a nice smooth blush with ginger, lychee, mangosteen and chamomile extracts. Because of these ingredients, you can smell it in the pan but not when you apply it. I also love that it’s mineral oil, paraben and phthalates free. It’s also hypo-allergenic so my sensitive skin is thankful! Love this blush!

ipsy July 2017 modicum

I also received the Modicum Essential Serum ($12.50 USD, 5 ml). I have always been uncertain about oils on my skin. More often than not, I end up breaking out a bit. The tarte one is probably the only exception. This serum is packed chock full of oils and it’s plant based so it’s said to be great for problematic skin. It also has anti-aging benefits. They also say that it has healing properties for chronic skin problems like eczema and psoriasis. It does have a strong scent, though, and I’m not a fan so that, in addition to it being an “uncertain oil”, I think I will take a pass.

ipsy July 2017 tarte cosmetics

This next one is fun – the tarte cosmetics Rainforest of the Sea Deep Dive Cleansing Gel ($1.50 CAD, 7.5 ml) is an excellent cleanser. How do I know this? Because I have already used it before! It is super great for cleansing makeup and it’s really gentle, too. And if you don’t like strong scents, this is great because it’s super subtle. I am going to save this small travel sized bottle for my next vacation. It’s great for travel. πŸ™‚

ipsy July 2017 bellapierre cosmetics

Last item! And it’s quite intriguing. It is the Bellapierre Cosmetics Banana Setting Powder ($35.00 USD, 4 g)! I gotta admit… I’ve always been curious about banana powders for colour correction and this is the first time I’ve gotten my hands on one so I’m super excited about it! Also, this is a full sized product so that’s pretty great!  I haven’t tried it yet because I’ve been trying to get through my current concealer in my Shop My Stash basket but I’m going to have to try it soon. I will try it to set my makeup under my eyes maybe. I hope it works well!

That’s it for July’s bag. The overall value for this month is $78.94 CAD at the very least… I’m not sure what the value of the treStiQue concealer is… but that’s still pretty good! Considering I like every item except the serum, the bag is worth it this month.

I’m still waiting for my August ipsy to come in the mail so it will be a little while yet before that unboxing but I hope to get it up sooner than later!

Unboxing + Review: ipsy February 2017 Much Love #IPSYMUCHLOVE

ipsy febraury 2016

It’s time for another ipsy glam bag unboxing! Well, I guess it’s more of an unbagging. That doesn’t have quite the same ring to it but it’s the truth! Technicalities aside, let’s take a look at the bag and the mix of items that I received.

February’s theme is Much Love. How perfect is that considering it is Valentine’s Day? But aside from all that lovey dovey stuff, what ipsy was trying to get across is that the Much Love theme is all about your inner glow and how you show your squad, well, Much Loveone… which I was really skeptical about at first because it also has a neon orange trim that screams 80s and early 90s! Not exactly what I imagined for February, the month of love, but I suppose it will do. When I received it, I thought the bag was alright. It was a super soft denim material and it was cute.  Not my favourite by any means but also not horribly bad.

ipsy February 2017

The contents of the bag, however, is what made my February glam bag really shine! I absolutely adored everything I received! Let’s take a closer look.

The first item I received was the Luna by Luna Cosmetcis Highligher int he shade Calypso ($23.00 USD, 3 g). If you haven’t noticed, I have been on a huge highlighter kick lately! So I was happy to get a new one to try. When I first saw my bag reveal and saw that the colour was described as a pale lavender shade so I really wasn’t sure about this. But it did say that it’s a mix of warm and cool undertones that works with every skintone so I was willing to give it a shot. At the end of the day, it kind of reminds me of the new Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Prismtic Amethyst… not exactly but in the same or similar colour family. I wish I owned the Becca one to compare swatches. Anyways, this one is a baked highlighter so it feels sillky smooth to the touch. It is sheer with one swipe but it is super buildable so you can use as little or as much as you’d like depending on the look you’re trying to achieve. I don’t have one in this shade yet and I find it is pretty unique so I will try it. And can I just say that I love the name of this company and the packaging? I love stars and anything sky related, really, so Luna is right up my alley!

ipsy February 2017

I also received a lip product in the form of a NYX Butter Lipstick in Lifeguard ($6.00 USD, 4.5 g). I have tried butter lipsticks before and I’m a huge fan of their formulation and pigmentation. I love that they are creamy and not drying at all! But while I love them, I’m just so-so on this shade. Lifeguard is described as a deep magenta but to me it seems like it leans more towards red… and I am so not a bright red lipstick girl! I have been leaning more towards neutrals lately, everyday colours that I can use at the office or as I go about y errands during the day. And when I do choose a red, I go for the deeper berry colours. So at the end of the day, I adore this product but I am passing on the shade.

ipsy February 2017

I am actually quite excited about this next product because I have been dabbling in the world of toners lately! The Dermadeli Rejuvinating Toner ($2.49 US, 10 ml) intrigues me. I have never heard of this brand before but it’s all natural so I am willing to give it a chance. It is said to “remove cellular debris, tighten pores and firm(s) the skin” which all sounds great. The witch hazel and sea kelp helps with keeping your skin moisturized, as well. The one thing that is turning me off is the very strong scent that it has. It’s very herbal due to the witch hazel. While this comes in a great size for travel, the last time I received a toner sample in this size, I had wished that I had more! We’ll see if it’s the same thoughts this time around.

ipsy February 2017

Next up is the Elizabeth Mott Whatup Beaches Matte Bronzer ($2.19 USD, 0.7 g). My first impression of this was disappointing… mainly because this was so small and I have received other products form Elizabeth Mott that were much larger. When I received a blush from this brand last year, it was pretty much full-sized so when I saw that I was getting this, the expectation was pretty much the same. Instead, this made me reminiscent of the super small theBalm samples I have received and were unhappy with in the past. Anyways, I guess it was not meant to be. However, it still looks like a nice bronzer! It is matte and pigmented. A little powdery but easy enough to blend. I do prefer matte bronzers because they look more natural on me. This was also easy to depot. The pan came right out and I think I will just add it to my magnetic palette. Overall thoughts? Underwhelming in size, challenging to use with my larger brushes that I use for bronzer but still worth a try because I loved the blush I received before so much.

ipsy February 2017

Last but not least, my fave out of the entire bag – the Luxie Rose Gold Blush Brush 514 ($24.20 USD). Because you can never have too many brushes! I am a HUGE fan of Luxie brushes so I’m happy to be able to add a new one to my collection. This blush brush is made of soft synthetic bristles and is 100% cruelty free and 100% vegan. It’s so soft and so fluffy which is what I look for in a blush brush so this is just perfect for me! Great for powders like blush, bronzers or pressed highlighters. I just love it. It’s so great.

Well that’s it for February. The total value of this bag was $57.88 USD which translates into around $78.00 CAD so the value is definitely there! Plus, out of the five items I received, three were full sized (highlighter, lipstick and blush brush) so I really can’t complain at all! Everything will be used, as well. I can say with confidence that February’s ipsy glam bag was a win! πŸ™‚

Oh wait! Before I forget, I did redeem points for something this month! The Wet n’ Wild megaglo Highlighting Powder in Precious Petals is absolutely gorgeous! Totally worth redeeming for. πŸ™‚

Like what you see here? For those of you who would like to give this a try and would like to know more, this subscription is $10.00 USD  a month in the US and $10.00 USD + $4.00 USD shipping for Canadians. Beauty Empties 3

Beauty Empties - what I loved and what I didn't

My quest to use up products continues! Since empties posts are pretty popular with my readers, today I bring you with 15 empties that I used up in the last couple of months. It is a whole mish mash of hair care, body care and makeup. Since there’s a ton to go through, let us begin!

beauty empties

The Empties

Product: Dove Nutritive solutions Daily Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner
Rating (out of 5): 5
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: I do adore Dove products and that includes their shampoo and conditioners. If I can recall correctly, I received the full-size of both the Daily Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner from ChickAdvisor’s Product Review Club sometime last year. I only have the conditioner pictured here because I am pretty sure I threw away the empty shampoo bottle a long time ago (whoops!). Then I bought the smaller travel sizes for when I went to Hawaii in November. I found that the Daily Moisture line was great for every day use. I tend to have drier ends and this line helped a lot. My hair felt clean with no residue using these products and it made my hair smell great! I wouldn’t hesitate to use these products again in the future.

Product: eva nyc Therapy Session Hair Mask
Rating (out of 5): 4
Repurchase?: Already have… but may not repurchase after. Depends.
Thoughts: I received this from an ipsy glam bag a long, long time ago. It took me this long to finish it because I was saving it and I was afraid of running out! Until I decided to use it up before it went bad. I really liked this hair mask. It smelled really good an d does a great job of moisturizing my hair. I found a large tub of this at Winners so I have repurchased it… however, I have since found other hair masks that I like more right now so I haven’t used it in awhile. Still a pretty great hair mask, nonetheless. But yes, if you are interested in more eva nyc products, check out your local Winners and Marshalls. It seems to be the only place I can find it around Edmonton.

Product: The Body Shop Shea Body Butter
Rating (out of 5): 5
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: I used to have a love-hate relationship with The Body Shop Body Butters. For the longest time, they were just too thick for me! However, this winter has been really, really dry so I needed something that was a bit more intense than my usual body lotion. Enter this Shea Body Butter. I received this deluxe travel sized tub from my Body Shop advent calendar a couple years back and found it in my stash and it wasn’t spoiled yet. I tried it and I was hooked! It’s super moisturizing which is exactly what my skin needs right now. The shea one smells really nice, as well… it’s not overpowering at all. I was really happy with this and now I’m using their Coconut Body Butter. πŸ™‚

Product: Philosophy Raspberry Sorbet Shampoo, Shower Gel & Bubble Bath
Rating (out of 5):
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: Quite honestly, I love raspberry anything. I received this three pack of classic Philosophy body washes about a year go and I am working my way through them. I had already finished one earlier this year in the scent Melon Daquiri – where the bottle ended up is beyond me… I probably threw it away – and just finished this Raspberry Sorbet one. While this is marketed as a “3-in-1” product, I only used this as a shower gel and I did very much like it. It smells so great, lathers really well and doesn’t completely dry my skin when I use it. The 180 ml bottle lasted me about a month to a month and a half. I’m sure they also sell this scent in the really large bottles that you can find at Shoppers Drug Mart or Sephora. In the end, this one was a win.

Product: Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes
Rating (out of 5): 5
Repurchase?: Yes, yes, a hundred times yes!
Thoughts: My favourite facial wipes ever. I honestly don’t know how many of these I have finished up already. This was a travel sized pack that I brought with me to Hawaii. It’s gentle on my skin and super effective in wiping off my makeup. Great for lazy days, before a workout or as a first step to my nighttime routine. This is something I always keep on hand!

Product: Delon+ Premium Cosmetic Cotton Rounds (100 count)
Rating (out of 5): 5
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: I am not sure how many 100 count packages I have used up of this product. I think this was my seventh one.. You can get these at Costco for about $12 for I believe it’s eight packages of 100 and I have one package left and it’s been over a year since I bought it. Excellent for pretty much anything you need a cotton round for – removing eye makeup, applying toner, taking off nail polish – you name it! It’s lint free and stays in tact when you use it. This is a pretty standard product that I keep on my vanity table.

Product: Chantecaille Flower Infused Cleansing Milk
Rating (out of 5): 5
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: I received this sample awhile ago and just decided to use it not too long ago. This little 8 ml sample lasted me a couple of weeks. I had not tried a cleansing milk before so it took some getting used to as it does not foam as much as some of my other cleansers… but at the end of the day, my face felt clean and it didn’t dry out my skin so I’m happy with it. I ended up loving this! Too bad it’s so expensive to purchase. Maybe I will get it again one day if I decide to treat myself!

Product: Shiseido The Skincare Extra Gentle Cleansing Foam
Rating (out of 5): 2
Repurchase?: No
Thoughts: This product may be discontinued. I tried to look for it on the Shiseido site but couldn’t find it. I’m not sure if this product smelled the way it did because it was old or if it was just the way it was but I did not like it. I did at first but the smell turned me off of it. It does do a good job of cleansing but I couldn’t get over the smell so I stopped using it. A big nope for me.

beauty empties

Product: Clarins Mission Perfection Serum
Rating (out of 5): 5
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: I am obsessed with this stuff! So I’m super happy that my hubby bought me a new one for Christmas. πŸ˜‰ This is meant to correct dark spots and even out skin tone… and it does a pretty good job of that! I had some dark spots from past blemishes on my cheek and it definitely lightened up my skin and made it brighter. This lasted a good part of the year when I used it once a day in the morning. Smells great and easy to apply on your skin. I really loved it.

Product: Avene Hydrance Optimale Hydrating Serum
Rating (out of 5): 5
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: This was a pretty small sample. 5 ml lasted me about a week… maybe a week and a half. It’s a very nice gentle serum that made my skin feel much more hydrated and soft. It has a light, soft scent that I really liked. I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase this one again. I’m happy it’s available at Shoppers Drug Mart and Rexall and it often goes on sale which makes it that much more affordable. That is a huge plus for me!

Product: Philosophy Renewed Hope in a Jar Moisturizer
Rating (out of 5): 4
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: Another small sample… this time 7 ml. But I was able to use it for a couple of weeks so that was nice. This was a nice moisturizer that hydrated my skin. This one also has a nice scent to it. This was the first I have tried of Philosophy’s skincare and it was a positive experience. The only thing to caution with this product is that it contains AHA so always use it with sunscreen. I didn’t really have any issues while I was using it because it was the dead of winter and it was dark when I went to work and then dark when I went home! But sunscreen is something to keep in mind when you know you will be out in the sun!

Product: Clinique Repairwear Laser Focus Serum
Rating (out of 5): 5
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: I was so impressed with this serum! It made my skin so soft and smooth! And I was very surprised as to how long this 15 ml bottle lasted me.  A couple of months, I think? That’s awesome! It smells nice and since it seems to work with my skin, I will definitely add this to my wish list.

beauty empties

Product: Beauty Blender
Rating (out of 5): 5
Repurchase?: Yes – Holy Grail Product!
Thoughts: I adore my Beauty Blender. You can see my review of it, along with some tips and tricks as to how to use it, here. It just makes applying concealer and foundation so much easier for me! I prefer this to any brush, to be honest. Once you get the hang of it (always make sure you use it with water!), it’s so hard to turn back. But like most things in life, Beauty Blenders do not last forever… I honestly think I’ve had this one for too long. I do already have a new one so it has been replaced. This is truly a favourite of mine!

Product: L’Oreal Brow Plumper by Brow Stylist in Transparent
Rating (out of 5): 5
Repurchase?: Yes
Thoughts: You can definitely tell that this product was well loved as there are no markings left on the tube because it all rubbed off! I had to Google what it was called because I couldn’t remember. This is a fibre infused brow gel and since it was in the shade transparent, I used it to set my brows after using a brow pencil. I really like this product and thought that it worked really well for me. It comes in a light/medium or medium/dark shades too…. something I am willing to try for sure!

beauty empties

That’s it Folks!

That’s it for now. Since taking these pictures a couple of weeks ago, I have since collected more empties. Look for another post very soon! For now, I am just happy that I can finally throw away some of my garbage. πŸ˜‰

Got any empties? What was your fave empty? πŸ™‚

Unboxing: Topbox October 2016 + $10 Beauty Surprise

topbox october 2016

After how amazing September’s Topbox was, I wasn’t sure what to expect for my October Topbox. I was hoping that it would be just as amazing! However, I am not sure if lived up to it compared to my September Topbox. And I decided to get one of the $10 Beauty Surprises. I’ve had good luck in the past so I thought I would give it a go. Upon unboxing (unbagging from the organza bag?) it, these are the items I found:

  • Ciate London Nail Polish in Mural Moment – 13.5 ml (full size), $15.00 CAD – This is one of Ciate’s Mosaic Collection of nail polishes. It was inspired by the mosaic murals you can find in the subway tunnels of New York City. It has light blue, mid blue and pink confetti “mosaic tiles”. It’s a neat concept and I love the colours but this one just wasn’t for me. Passing this on, I think.
  • Dr. Roebucks PURE Ultra Moisturizer – 20 ml, $10.99 CAD – I really can’t say no to moisturizers during these drier winter months! I have never tried Dr. Roebucks products but have seen them around at Shoppers Drug Mart. This is a more natural product, free of parabens and BPA, in 100% recyclable packaging. I will give this one a try.
  • Eyeko London Fat Eye Stick in Smoky – 4 g, $12.00 USD – I don’t often do smoky eyes and black eyeshadows are just not my thing. I can count the number of times I have used a black eyeshadow on one hand! I also couldn’t find this on Eyeko’s site so I’m wondering if this has been discontinued. I will likely be passing on this one, as well.
  • Harvey Prince Organics Keravegan Hair Masque – 30 ml, $4.02 CAD – I only know the Harvey Prince brand because of their fragrances and body products so the fact that they also make organic hair products was news to me! It smells really nice! It is also paraben and sulfate free which is great. I like to use hair masks at least once a week so this will likely make it into my rotation once my current hair mask product gets used up.

So I am pretty split on what was in my October Topbox. Two pluses and two minuses.

Overall, the value of my box was around $46.09 CAD which is not bad for a $12 box. The value is there.. I just wish I liked more products! Continuing my subscription is still up for debate. I will stay on for November to see what I get and make a decision then.

Oh wait! Before I forget, I did order one $10 Beauty Surprise. I received a bottle of Pure Grace fragrance from Philosophy (60 ml, $60.00 CAD). While I think the value is there (it was about 83% off the retail price), this scent just isn’t for me. It’s more of a musk and I’m more of a vanilla based gal when it comes to fragrance. I took a gamble and loss this time! But honestly, this is a good value $10 Beauty Surprise this time so I am sure there are others out there who received this and was super happy about it! It is just that fragrances are such a personal thing – they don’t work for everyone.

Still catching up to what I wasn’t able to get to before and during my vacation in Hawaii! I have finally finished my October subscription box posts with my ipsy post and this one. Next up, I will be posting my November unboxing and reviews! Stay tuned!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone! And if you are in Alberta, stay warm on this cold, cold day!
