FabFitFun Winter 2017 – Unboxing and Review

fabfitfun winter 2017

Wow! Is it time for another FabFitFun unboxing already? The seasons seem to be flying by! We are in the midst of winter (and with the bone chilling temperatures we’ve been getting this past week, I believe it!) so all we want to do is keep toasty, warm and cozy.

For those who are unfamiliar with it. FabFitFun is a seasonal lifestyle subscription box that contains everything from beauty to fitness items. Seriously a mishmash of many different products for the season. Every box tends to be very high value (I’m talking in the $200+ and then some range most of the time!) so it’s not your typical subscription box. If you would like to try this subscription, please use my link here.

fabfitfun winter 2017

The Winter box is filled with all sorts of things to help you get through the season. But before we get into the contents, let’s discuss the Choice items.

There were two Choice themes this season: Beauty and Wellness. The two Beauty items you could choose from were the Grace + Stella Anti-Wrinkle + Energizing Eye Masks ($16.00 USD) and the Nelson j Beverly Hills Moisture Healing Hair Mask in Coconut ($23.00 USD). The two Wellness items were the FFFTV Fitness Ball with Jillian Michaels Videos ($16.00 USD) and the This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray ($29.00 USD).

My Choices were the Nelson j Beverly Hills Moisture Healing Hair Mask and the This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray. I can always use a new hair mask and the sleep spray smells like lavender and smells lovely. I do love a lavender spray on my pillow at night. I was happy with both of my choices this time around!

Okay, now on to the standard contents of the box… beginning with beauty items!

I’m a huge fan of Kate Somerville products – at least of the products I have tried! – so I was excited to see the Exfolikate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment ($75.00 USD). I just started using her products this year so I’ve never tried this product before but I’ve heard great things about it. This exfoliator contains papaya, pumpkin and pineapple enzymes and uses a combination of both physical and chemical exfoliators. Plus, its a two minute treatment. If it’s quick and effective, then perfect!

Next up is the DOUCCE Freematic Eyeshadow Pro Palette in Nude ($70.00 USD). This palette features eight eyeshadows and one highlighter. I haven’t tried it yet so I can’t say much about the formulation of these powder products but I do like how compact this is. I can see myself using this for travel and a 2-in-1 with eyeshadow and a highlighter. That is one less thing you need to pack!

The AHAVA Mineral Hand Cream ($33.00 USD) is a rich hand cream that is perfect for those of you who have dry hands. I know I get dry hands in the winter so this is perfect! I also like the scent, too.

Moving on to fashion items, the BB Dakota Poncho in Black ($70.00 USD) is so cozy and also very stylish! I’m glad that I received this colourway (the other two available was burgundy and grey) because it is reversible and the other side is grey. This makes it super versatile and it goes with pretty much everything!

The Pointe Studio Aloe Infused Cozy Socks ($19.00 USD) are so soft and perfect for cozy nights in at home. I live for cozy socks and slippers in the wintertime! I mean, who doesn’t love a pair of cozy socks in this weather? I also like how these socks are aloe infused. Super great.

fabfitfun winter 2017

The 8 Other Reasons Nine Lives Choker in Silver ($58.00 USD) looks super classy and delicate. Perfect for when you’re dressed up for, say a holiday party, for example!

fabfitfun winter 2017

The last item in this season’s box is the Homemade by Ayesha Curry Ceramic Mug ($16.00 USD). There were three variations of this product and I received the black and white mug that says “Coming in Hot” on it. Perfect for my morning coffee or evening hot chocolate. 🙂

fabfitfun winter 2017

fabfitfun winter 2017

The total value of my Winter FabFitFun box was $393.00 USD. That translates to $495.50 CAD at todays exchange rate. I think this is one of the highest value boxes I have received!  Add to it that I was happy with everything I received. Overall, I adored the Winter box!

What do you think of this season’s offerings? I’d love to hear what you think!

Review: Roger & Gallet Le Soin Aura Mirabilis Skincare – GlamSense

glamsense roger & gallet aura mirabilis

Looking for a flawless complexion? This beauty ritual may be able to help you with that!

I don’t often receive pretty packages in the mail so when this arrived, it took me completely by surprise! It was such a surprise to learn that I was chosen for the Roger & Gallet GlamSense campaign. If I can recall correctly, I had a tough day so this sure put a smile on my face! I mean, who doesn’t love getting mail, honestly? 🙂 (Seriously,  though. How pretty is this box? It has Eiffel Towers all over it!)

glamsense roger & gallet aura mirabilis

glamsense roger & gallet aura mirabilis

From what I have seen on social media, there were a number of different boxes that were sent out. I received Box 1 which contained the Roger & Gallet Le Soin Aura Mirabilis beauty ritual.

This range contains four products which uses a natural remedy called Aura Mirabilis. This remedy was created nearly 300 years ago by monks and was meant to be used for a number of ailents. It contains 18 distilled officinal plants selected for their healing properties. Roger & Gallet now own this formula. 🙂

(Seriously,  though. How pretty is this box? It has Eiffel Towers all over it!)

The plants found in this product includes sandalwood, geranium, neroli, green mandarin, citronelle, magnolia, lemon zest, thyme, lavendin, damask rose, bitter orange leaf, bergamot, sweet orange, lemongrass, lavender, palmarosa, may change and rosemary.

The ritual has four products and four steps:

  1. Detoxify using the Extra-Fine Cleansing Mask
Suitable for sensitive skin, this can be used as a mask or a cleanser. It removes make up and once water comes into contact with it, it turns into virginal milk which detoxifies the skin. (Virginal milk is what was used in the 18th Century to conserve porcelain skin.) This cleanser has a gel consistency and has a very pleasant scent. It smells floral but it is not overpowering at all! I am not a fan of floral scents but found that I really liked the scent. After using this cleanser, I found my skin was left very soft and it wasn’t drying. I enjoyed this cleanser. I will have to try it as a mask one day!

(Seriously,  though. How pretty is this box? It has Eiffel Towers all over it!)
(Seriously,  though. How pretty is this box? It has Eiffel Towers all over it!)
(Seriously,  though. How pretty is this box? It has Eiffel Towers all over it!)

  2. Refine using Beauty Vinegar
If you are like me, you are probably raising an eyebrow right now. What on Earth is “Beauty Vinegar”? In the 18th Century, cleansing vinegars made from flowers, fruits or spices were used for cleansing and preserving your skin’s complexion. Well to answer the question of “what is it?”, Beauty Vinegar is used as a toner. I found that using a cotton pad was the easiest way to apply it to my face. The scent is, again, very pleasant – there’s nothing “vinegar” about it! I also found it to be very gentle on my skin. A few benefits of this product is that it removes pollution residue and traces of makeup, smooths skin and clarifies your complexion and it refines skin texture and tightens pores.

(Seriously,  though. How pretty is this box? It has Eiffel Towers all over it!)

  3. Restore with Double-Extract
This is an essence or serum used after toning but before applying moisturizer. This is an ultra-concentrated serum and helps visibly reduce the signs of aging and wrinkles to help reveal radiant skin. Other benefits include correcting irregularities, restoring skin’s barrier and protecting against external aggressors and helps keep skin radiant and hydrated. Smells wonderful (again!) and applies very nicely. It absorbs ever so quickly and isn’t sticky or leaves a residue. The bottle is unique too – due to an innovative pre-dosing system, when you shake the bottle, the right amount of serum is dispensed. It’s just enough for your face and neck and you’re not wasting any product. Good stuff!

(Seriously,  though. How pretty is this box? It has Eiffel Towers all over it!)
(Seriously,  though. How pretty is this box? It has Eiffel Towers all over it!)
(Seriously,  though. How pretty is this box? It has Eiffel Towers all over it!)

  4. Renew with Legendary Cream
The moisturizing step in the ritual. This moisturizer is said to even skin complexion and protect against aging, illuminate skin complexion and renews skin, invigorating skin cells acting against signs of dehydration and discomfort. It’s a very nice cream, very light and quick to absorb in your skin. Plus, like the other products, it smells very nice! After using this moisturizer cream, my skin is left feeling soft and smooth. It’s such a luxurious cream!

(Seriously,  though. How pretty is this box? It has Eiffel Towers all over it!)
(Seriously,  though. How pretty is this box? It has Eiffel Towers all over it!)

When it comes to skincare, I like to test products for a few weeks before reviewing them but being on vacation when I first received this prevented me from doing that. With the limited time I had to use these products before providing my reviews to GlamSense, I got a feel for each product.

Overall, I was quite impressed with the Aura Mirabilis skincare line, especially the serum and moisturizer. I already use a skincare regimen that contains a cleanser, toner, serum and moisturizer so it was easy for me to incorporate in my morning and evening routine. 🙂

For me, I will continue to use these products. I would repurchase one or all of these products because I really like them!

Thank you GlamSense for letting me try these products! I have discovered some new favourites! 🙂

Have you tried any products from Roger & Gallet? Thoughts?

Unboxing + Review: ipsy November 2016 Rockstarlet

ipsy glam bag november 2016

Happy Holidays everyone! I hope you’re all having a nice holiday season. It’s a busy time for sure!

I received my November ipsy weeks ago but it was right before vacation and I was SUPER busy during that time that I didn’t get a chance to write my unboxing post yet!

For those of you who are not familar with this subscription, ipsy is a monthly beauty bag based out of the US but is also available to Canadians. It is $10.00 USD  a month in the US and $10.00 USD + $4.00 USD shipping for Canadians. You get a mix of skincare, makeup and haircare deluxe and full sized products. And you get a different style of bag each month. If you are interested in trying this subscription, please use my link – much appreciated!

November’s ipsy bag’s theme was Rockstarlet. The bag itself is very unique and shows constellations in the shape of various makeup and beauty items. So cute! I love stars so this was perfect for me. 🙂 It comes in two colorways – gold and silver constellations on the deep navy blue –  and I ended up with gold. I would have been happy with either!

The items, on the other hand, were very hit or miss for me this month. More hits than misses, though, so that was good! Let’s see what came in my November glam bag.

The first thing I received was the Ciate Liquid Velvet Matte Liquid Lipstick in Diva ($7.00 CAD, 2 ml). Blue-toned red shades don’t work for me.  I’ve tried many times now and I just can’t pull it off! So unfortunately, it’s a pass. I didn’t even want to open it to see how the consistency and feel was because I knew right away that this was going to be passed on to someone who will use it. I do see that there are other shades that I think I would prefer so I may have to try this another time.

ipsy glam bag november 2016

Next up is the Luxie Beauty Rose Gold Small Duo Fiber Brush (524T) ($16.08 USD). This is the travel sized version of their 524 brush. Luxie is one of my favorite brush brands so I was very happy to see this! This small duo fiber brush will be great for foudation, setting powder, cream blushes… you name it! This is very much a versatile brush that can be used with many different products in many different ways. I love this!

ipsy glam bag november 2016

I also received a deluxe sample of the pur~lisse Blue Lotus Balancing Moisturizer ($16.50 USD, 15 ml). I love getting moisturizers during this time of year because we have SUCH dry winters in Alberta! Any moisture helps! I have also really enjoyed other products I have tried from this brand so this looks promising to me. I love how it is said to provide hydration and prevents fine lines and wrinkles… you cannot go wrong with that at all! Looking forward to trying this one out!

ipsy glam bag november 2016

My fourth item was the ‘Tini Beauty Eyetini Eyeshadow in the shade “Firestarter” ($13.00 USD, 1.6 g). What a gorgeous colour! The shade Firestarter is described as a “burnished amber chrome”.  It is nicely pigmented and I do like it. I also have a soft spot for duochrome eyeshadows. 😉

ipsy glam bag november 2016

And the last item was the Too Faced Better than Sex Mascara ($15.00 CAD, 4.8 g). This travel sized mascara is a great value item to receive in this bag! While this mascara doesn’t quite work for me – I turn into a racoon by the end of the day as this seems to always smudge under my eyes for some reason! – I know that it does work for others so this would be a great score in one’s bag! In my case, I will be passing on this.

ipsy glam bag november 2016

There was excellent value in this bag and the items I received were all from great brands! The overall value of my November ipsy glam bag came out to around $82.79 CAD (based on today’s exchange rate) so that’s great to see. This was definitely a hit or miss bag for me and I only like three out of the five items but it’s still worth it to me! The mascara and liquid lipstick will find a great home, I’m sure!

What was your favorite item from the November ipsy glam bag?

Hope you all have an amazing week!

Unboxing: Topbox October 2016 + $10 Beauty Surprise

topbox october 2016

After how amazing September’s Topbox was, I wasn’t sure what to expect for my October Topbox. I was hoping that it would be just as amazing! However, I am not sure if lived up to it compared to my September Topbox. And I decided to get one of the $10 Beauty Surprises. I’ve had good luck in the past so I thought I would give it a go. Upon unboxing (unbagging from the organza bag?) it, these are the items I found:

  • Ciate London Nail Polish in Mural Moment – 13.5 ml (full size), $15.00 CAD – This is one of Ciate’s Mosaic Collection of nail polishes. It was inspired by the mosaic murals you can find in the subway tunnels of New York City. It has light blue, mid blue and pink confetti “mosaic tiles”. It’s a neat concept and I love the colours but this one just wasn’t for me. Passing this on, I think.
  • Dr. Roebucks PURE Ultra Moisturizer – 20 ml, $10.99 CAD – I really can’t say no to moisturizers during these drier winter months! I have never tried Dr. Roebucks products but have seen them around at Shoppers Drug Mart. This is a more natural product, free of parabens and BPA, in 100% recyclable packaging. I will give this one a try.
  • Eyeko London Fat Eye Stick in Smoky – 4 g, $12.00 USD – I don’t often do smoky eyes and black eyeshadows are just not my thing. I can count the number of times I have used a black eyeshadow on one hand! I also couldn’t find this on Eyeko’s site so I’m wondering if this has been discontinued. I will likely be passing on this one, as well.
  • Harvey Prince Organics Keravegan Hair Masque – 30 ml, $4.02 CAD – I only know the Harvey Prince brand because of their fragrances and body products so the fact that they also make organic hair products was news to me! It smells really nice! It is also paraben and sulfate free which is great. I like to use hair masks at least once a week so this will likely make it into my rotation once my current hair mask product gets used up.

So I am pretty split on what was in my October Topbox. Two pluses and two minuses.

Overall, the value of my box was around $46.09 CAD which is not bad for a $12 box. The value is there.. I just wish I liked more products! Continuing my subscription is still up for debate. I will stay on for November to see what I get and make a decision then.

Oh wait! Before I forget, I did order one $10 Beauty Surprise. I received a bottle of Pure Grace fragrance from Philosophy (60 ml, $60.00 CAD). While I think the value is there (it was about 83% off the retail price), this scent just isn’t for me. It’s more of a musk and I’m more of a vanilla based gal when it comes to fragrance. I took a gamble and loss this time! But honestly, this is a good value $10 Beauty Surprise this time so I am sure there are others out there who received this and was super happy about it! It is just that fragrances are such a personal thing – they don’t work for everyone.

Still catching up to what I wasn’t able to get to before and during my vacation in Hawaii! I have finally finished my October subscription box posts with my ipsy post and this one. Next up, I will be posting my November unboxing and reviews! Stay tuned!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone! And if you are in Alberta, stay warm on this cold, cold day!

Unboxing + Review: FabFitFun Fall 2016

fabfitfun fall 2016

It has been a year since I last subbed to Fab Fit Fun. I hadn’t seen much in the spoilers that I was really that interested in… until now!

The spoilers for the Fab Fit Fun box for Fall 2016 were just so hard to say no to! One spoiler after another, as they were released, were making it harder and harder to not resubscribe. There are so many items that I just love in the fall box! It is so jam packed with amazing things! Plus, the box is so adorable and depicts the colouring craze perfectly!

Fab Fit Fun is a seasonal lifestyle subscription box based in the US. You will receive four boxes a year. The box costs $49.99 USD and it is an additional $8 USD to ship to Canada. It is a pricier subscription but it is seasonal and you only get four of them per year and each box has a value that is well over $200.00 USD so if you see that the spoilers are items you would like, it’s totally worth it! If you would like to try this subscription out, I would very much appreciate it if you use my referral link here.

I couldn’t wait to get this box! There’s a lot to cover so let’s get started. 🙂

fabfitfun fall 2016

Unless you have been living under a rock, you have probably noticed there’s a big adult colouring craze is happening now! Adult colouring books are everywhere! I’ve seen a ton of them at Chapters and at Costco. Heck, I own a couple of them myself. The first two items I received in my Fall box goes along with this trend. I received a  FabFitFun Colouring Book and a set of six coloured pencils ($14.00 USD). I received the Things Colouring Book (the other one that was available was Nature) and it’s a book full of random things and objects. I love colouring books! I loved colouring as a child and I love it now. They really are a type of therapy and does reduce stress and anxiety. When I’m colouring, I’m feeling very zen! The problem I seem to stumble  upon, though, is finding time to colour. Gotta make some time for it, I guess. 🙂 Oh, and don’t forget to use those pencil crayons to colour the Fall box, too!

fab fit fun fall 2016

fabfitfun fall 2016

Next up is one of the real stars of this box – this ModCloth Loch and Key Scarf ($34.99 USD) is amazing! Blanket scarves are in this season so Fab Fit Fun got it right by including one in their Fall box. The one I received is in the black and white colourway. Quite honestly, I would have been happy with any one of the four colourways! The ModCloth blanket scarf is super soft, light and comfy! There are a number of ways you can wear it, too. You can use it as a scarf, you can make it into a poncho. I know I will be wearing mine through the fall and well into winter, I’m sure. I’ll be using it as a scarf and a blanket. Plus, it will be great to take on the plane in case you get chilly. Multipurpose items are always a great thing – so practical!

fabfitfun fall 2016

The good stuff just keeps on coming! How adorable is this To-Go Coffee Mug from The Created Co ($19.00 USD)? I love it! I received the “Good Morning Gorgeous” one and it is perfect! You can use it with coffee or water even. Such a fun travel mug with an amazing, empowering message on it! The gold text on black mug looks sleek and gorgeous. If this doesn’t brighten up your morning, I don’t know what will!

fabfitfun 2016

The next item I received is something that smells wonderful. Well, to me it does because I love lavender scents. I just find it so soothing! The Mullein & Sparrow Mini French Lavender Body Oil ($18.00 USD) is a great addition to this box. Not only does it have moisturizing properties when used on your skin, the scent just makes me feel zen. I need to check out the lasting power of this body oil… if I can put it on in the morning and have it help me feel a bit more zen through the busier, more stressful days at work, that would be great! 😉

fabfitfun fall 2016

Now, how did FabFitFun know that I needed a new brow gel? The BrowGal Clear, Water-Resistant Eyebrow Gel ($20.00 USD) came at the perfect time! I am just about out of the clear brow gel that I have now. I like using brow gels just to keep my brows staying put. Sometimes brows get a bit crazy too! I have not heard of this brand before so I’m looking forward to trying it.

fabfitfun fall 2016

This next product intrigues me. The Spongelle Bulgarian Rose Body Wash Infused Buffer ($16.00 USD) is something I’ve never seen before. It’s a hypoallergenic sponge that has a time released lather… that’s new to me! Very innovative, if that is the case. It does have a very strong scent, though, and I’ve always been iffy about rose scents, so I’m not sure if I will use this or pass it on to a friend.

fabfitfun fall 2016

The Pure Cosmetics Nude Collection Eyeshadow Palette ($50.00 USD) looks pretty familar to me… it looks like a dupe for my Urban Decay Naked 2 palette! The colours look very similar and all the shades are very wearable, from day to night. I haven’t swatched this because I’m not sure if I’m keeping it yet due to owning Naked 2. But one thing I can see is that this may be more “natural” than my UD palette so that’s a nice option for those who prefer natural products. Either way, this is a big value item in a sub box. Can’t go wrong with that, really… and if you don’t own the Naked 2 palette, then this looks like a great dupe!

fabfitfun fall 2016

fabfitfun fall 2016

This next one will surely come in handy next time I decide to do some yoga. Toesox Toeless Fitness Socks ($18.00 USD)! I can tell you right now that the grips on the bottom of these socks are great! No slip! At all! It takes a bit of getting used to putting it on and then having your toes not be covered like your typical sock. But hey, these socks serve a purpose and the pink colour is so fun!

fabfitfun fall 2016

One more product to go! The Skin Laundry Restoring Night Serum ($50.00 USD) is to be used at night, before you go to bed. It contains powerful antioxidants, vitamins, natural extracts and amino acid. This helps skin texture, firmness and elasticity while you get some rest. I have been using it for a few days so far and I really like it! It’s very light, not sticky at all and feels nice on my skin.

fabfitfun fall 2016

The next two products are the bonuses… and even though they’re bonuses, they are super useful items!

The first one is Cottonelle Fresh Care Flushable Cleansing Cloths (Sponsored Item). I’ll admit it – these are practical! And how adorable is that packaging! We do already use this product and really like it so this was a nice bonus.

fabfitfun fall 2016

fabfitfun fall 2016

And last but not least, I received a deluxe sample of Secret Outlast Xtend Clear Gel (Sponsored Item). Quite glad I received this because I adore Secret Clear Gels! They are my fave antiperspirant/deodorant product ever. EVER. So this will get used for sure!

fabfitfun fall 2016

Overall, my Fall 2016 FabFitFun box was a hit! I am very happy with it! My fave item has got to be the blanket scarf, though! Out of the 11 products I received – nine of which were the actual box contents plus two sponsored items – I will be using pretty much everything except maybe the Spongelle sponge and Pure Cosmetics palette. And really, the only reason why I may not use the palette is because I already own and use something similar. Such amazing value at $239.99 USD! And don’t forget to check out the Exclusive Offers card for discounts from seven of the brands featured in the Fall box. 🙂

Again, if you’d like to try this subscription out, i would really appreciate if you used my referral link.

What did you think of the Fall 2016 FabFitFun box? What was your fave item?
